Geography is a dynamic spatial science that features a heritage of investigating the relationship between people and
the natural environment through time and space. This course introduces students to the processes that drive Earth’s
physical systems. Students will explore the relationships among these physical systems, with emphasis on weather
and climate, water, ecosystems, geologic processes and landform development, and human interactions with the
physical environment.
Geography Report (4-page Writing Assignment): the student will be required to write on any physical geographic
topic of choice (ex: South Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, etc.). You must include a
map (one-page) of the region along with: Environment (physical), Climate & Climate Change, Ecology,
Demography, Society, Economy, Culture and Population, and History. Three written pages total with map, 12-point
font, Times New Roman or Arial, and double-spaced. You must include a “works cited” page in APA format, and an
appendix section if you have any more than one image, table, graph, or chart.
Article Assignment: Each Friday day you are required to hand in a one-page news article (see following website
links for some online sources or use hard copy newspapers or magazines) along with a description (write or type
one paragraph, 4-8 sentences) of what the article says and how the article relates to geography. You must include
geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) of article topics’ physical location
(http://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/latitudelongitude-finder/).

Natural disaster article examples: Hurricanes, Tornados, Flooding, Hail Storms, Earthquakes, and Volcanoes (must

Article Assignments Activity-- GEOG 1301 – Physical Geography
I use this (please see writing criteria below) as one of the methods to get my students to read articles
and bring the hard copy to class where we break into groups of 3-4 and read and discuss each article.
We then have a class discussion the most interesting topic from each group. This activity gets us into
great discussions on always changing and topics of interest for each student.
Please use the following structure for all article assignments.
• Put your Name, Date, Article/extra-credit assignment #, class, my last name (top left side of page)
• Type one paragraph, 4-8 sentences, 10pt times roman font, word-doc format (all font must match)
• One-page article (decrease all font to fit onto One-page
• Place location image at top of your article/report assignment
• Indicate location/geographic coordinates (see below in this email) directly under your image (left
justify)
• Write your paragraph of how the article relates to physical geography
• List "Works Cited" using Full APA citation at bottom of page
• Do Not use Wikipedia as your source (it is open source information that can be edited by anyone
and therefore is Not a valid source)

Strategy and explanation:
The strategy I hope to achieve is to determine what piece of the lesson each student found
important and whether they understood the lesson or not. This assessment feedback will let me
know if my lesson objective will have success or not. Additionally, I can learn what part of the
material I am covering well and the part(s) of the lesson I need to go back over using another
method of explanation or further clarification.
I will administer this CAT during the last few minutes of my lesson (post assessment) for a
complete summation of the student understanding or not. Based off the results, I may then
modify this lesson and subsequent lessons. For example, I can use the CAT in a lesson dealing
with the same topic, say “religion;” although covering another “world region.”
I hope to achieve a good understanding of their level of enthusiasm and level of motivation. This
may also, demonstrate what type of individual motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic) and how better
to engage the class meeting each motivational need.

I decided to use Kahoot technology with a 15-question multiple choice quiz (with maps) for my
lesson.
The quiz certainly meets the second question of my lesson objectives, covering specific world
features and major regions of the world. The quiz titled, “World Geography Basics.”
I didn’t have any issues and found, modified, and shortened an existing World Geography quiz
on Kahoot After correcting and modifying most of the quiz questions, I published and tested the
quiz on my mobile phone.
I love this new technology tool and will absolutely use this in the future. There are many types of
quiz formats, user friendly; and easy to create an unlimited number of quizzes that can be easily
shared with my students. I am sold on Kahoot!
