(4) PROTOCOLS/ETIQUETTE WITHIN THE ORDER AND PRIORY, and how to address
each other (updated 31 May 2020)

At the Order level, the word "Grand" precedes the officer title, such as with Grand Prior Bryant

referred to as "Grand Prior", our Grand Magistrate Leadership are addressed as Grand

b) SENESCHAL - Seneschal Ben A Frazer

NOTES on Chaplains and Assistant Chaplains
Until a Chaplain Assistant has met the criteria for Knighthood and fully vetted by the Chaplains
Corps, they are not to be addressed as Chaplain, Reverend, Pastor, Deacon, etc., inside the Order
and Priory regardless of their Ordination status outside of the Order.
Added 3/9/2018 - Priory Assistant Chaplains - to be addressed by their given rank and not
appropriate to be referred to nor call themselves Chaplain until such time are serving in the

capacity of Priory Chaplain. In order to be Priory Chaplain must have received the Accolade of

Command criteria as set forth by the Chaplains' Corps. The Chaplain and Assistant Chaplain(s)
DO have direct access to the Prior when matters/concerns of the Priory are needed to be
addressed with the Prior within the duties and responsibilities of the Priory Chaplain and

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

HOW TO ADDRESS EACH OTHER:

(a) It is acceptable to address each other as Sister or Brother with first name, but it is preferred if
they have an actual title, out of respect, to use that title. At no time is it permitted to refer to
somebody solely by his or her first name.

(b) For those who are Sergeants, they are to be addressed as Sergeant (Staff Sergeant, First
Sergeant) followed by their name.

(c) For those who have been Knighted, proper titles are Sir or Chevalier (men) and Ma'am, Lady
Dame, Dame or Lady, Chevalière (women), or if they hold a position, such as Knights
Commander, they should be addressed by that position title, i.e., Commander (and last name).

NOTE: We are a Priory that sets the example requirements to earn Knighthood and of proper
protocols/etiquette within the Order, Priory, and Commanderies.

Proper protocols/etiquette will be exercised ANY time we are conducting any Knight Templar
discussions, postings, etc. No exceptions.

Use of Titles

The use of fake titles of nobility is NOT permitted within the Order.
If you use fake titles of nobility, the public will view our Order as a joke and we will lose
credibility. These fake titles include: "Prince," "Baron," "Duke," "King," "Count," "Queen,"
"Princess," etc. Please do not forget, the former leader of Bulgaria created a fake "Prince" which
resulted in a major crisis for this Order.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

(5) RANKS USED IN THE ORDER:

(a) PAGE – A young man or woman, Greater than 7 years of age but fewer than 15, a future

(c) COMPANION-AT-ARMS – They wear the brown mantle with Red Cross. An applicant of
at least 18 years of age under a probation period before becoming a Sergeant. This probation
lasts SIX (6) months. If the Prior accepts them, they receive their Neck Cross at the end of this
period. If they are not accepted, their $65 is returned.

(d) SERGEANT (Sergeant-At-Arms) (UPDATED 1 January 2018) – They wear the black
mantle with Red Cross. After their SIX (6) months of probation, all those accepted members
become eligible to become Sergeants. A member will need to spend NO LESS THAN SIX (6)
months as a Sergeant. A Sergeant is a mentor in the Temple. They strive to help their Brothers
and Sisters along in their learning process. More is expected of a Sergeant than a Companion-At-
Arms. Furthermore, in order to be eligible for SAA, all requirements and expectations must be
met and be recommended by their Knights Commander and have successfully completed the
Order's CAA Corps Basic Training program.

There are 3 promotions available to Sergeants after Sergeant-At-Arms (SAA):

* Staff Sergeant – Generally the senior-most Sergeant within the Commandery serving as
Mentor.

* First Sergeant - The highest rank of Sergeant within the Priory who has demonstrated
leadership and compassion. The senior-most First Sergeant, through demonstrated performance
and dedication, assists the Priory Turcopolier in assisting within the Mentorship program of the
Priory.

* Sergeant Major – There is only one Sergeant Major who is responsible for and oversees the
Sergeant’s Corp.

(e) KNIGHT – They wear the white mantle with Red Cross. Actual Knighthood granted, and
duty is expected to his or her community, and at a higher level as a Templar by being in
abeyance of the Virtues of Knighthood and as a Christian.

“Knight” is used by men & women equally. Christian men who reach this “Knight” rank are
given the honorific title of Chevalier. Females who reach the “Knight” rank are given the
honorific title of Chevaleresse (or Chevalière).

* Knight of Grace – A Knight who has demonstrated selfless giving to the needy or who has
volunteered above and beyond selflessly.

* Knight of Justice – A Knight who has demonstrated potential leadership ability. They have
been a leader among their peers in several situations.

(f) KNIGHT OFFICER RANKS (appointed by Prior) - A “Knight Officer” includes all the
below ranks:

* Knight - the entry level of officers in the Order

* Knight Lieutenant – A Knight Lieutenant is a ranked Officer within a Priory or Commandery
who is trusted for extra responsibility and duties. They have demonstrated faithfulness to their
Commanders. They don’t have their own group to command but perform a function or purpose
within their priory

* Knight Captain - A Knight Captain is a ranked Officer within a Priory or Commandery who is
trusted for even more extra responsibility and duties. They have demonstrated further
commitments, dedication to duty, and faithfulness to their Commanders, the Priory and the
Order. They will hold higher duties and responsibilities. They may be asked to fulfill mentorship
positions within the Knights Corps.

* Knight Commander – A Knight who is given a Commandery consisting of at a least 7 other
members besides the Commander (total of 8 members)

* Master Commander - A Knight Commander who has been appointed to oversee a Priory but
not being a Prior or being the Commander of an Autonomous Commandery

* Prior – A Prior oversees a group of at least 30 members. Thus when a Knight Commander
grows his Commandery to that level, he’s eligible for a promotion to “Prior.”

* Knight Grand Officer – High Senior Officer, usually a board member (i.e., Grand Prior, Grand
Seneschal, and Grand Commandant).

Honorific Titles - ONLY National Executive Council can select and present:

* Monsignor – (pronounced [monsiɲˈɲor]; pl. monsignori [monsiɲˈɲoːri]) is an honorific form of
address for those clergy in Templar Church who have gone above and beyond the call of duty for
the Church. It is an honorific title just below the “Grand Cross” but only awarded to clergy of the
Templar Church.

* Knight Paladin – Our second highest honorific title. Paladins were originally associated with
Charlemagne. Like Roland, they were considered to be his ‘Greatest Knights’ and served as an
idealized symbol of ‘Courage & Nobility.’ A Paladin is a ‘Paragon of Christian Knighthood.’
They are ‘Heroic Champions & Defenders of all that is ‘Good & Right.’ In the ‘Fight Against
Evil,’ the ‘Paladin’ stands as God’s supreme & undaunted Knight -Errant. The ‘Paladin’ is the
Noblest of Knights. The image of the ‘Paladin’ is indelibly linked to that of the Medieval Knight
– the Supreme Hero of the Middle Ages. Clad in ‘Shining Armor’ (God’s Armor of Light), the
‘Paladin’ is the quintessence (the perfect example) of Gallantry, the Champion of the Powerless
and the Personification of Courage. They represent the loftiest standards of Heroism &
Righteousness. The ‘True Paladin’ is Pious and Forthright, sworn to uphold a just Way of Life
and determined to protect the world from the Forces of Darkness. The ‘Paladin’ is a Gentleman
who epitomizes Honor, Courage and Loyalty.

Only one person has been awarded this within the order – Grand Treasurer Connie Lee Carlisle
Carlson officially holds this honorary title.

* Knight Grand Cross – Not a rank but our highest honorific title given to a Knight who has
knowledge, and achieved duties above and beyond the call. Usually a Prior. There will be
multiple holders of this title.

Only three people have been awarded this - Grand Prior Bryant Jones, Grand Seneschal Caesar
Johnson and President H. W. Bush

Grand Priory, or the Order as a whole, in major disrepute, there will be a formal disciplinary
approach up to expulsion from the Order. This means that foul and hateful language,
inappropriate posts and comments, or anything which reflects negatively on our Christian

Scripture. We do not live according to the norms of society but that of what is expected of us
from our Lord, Jesus the Christ, of whom we serve and to whom we have sworn fealty.
