Principles of Animation Part 5

Principles of Animation Part 5

Part 5 PRINCIPLES OF ANIMATION

Straight Ahead And Pose-to-Pose

Straight Ahead Animating the frames continuously Pose to Pose Putting in key poses and then animating the in-betweens

Fluid and spontaneous Applied mostly in stop motion animation More time consuming to adjust and do retakes Suitable to use for special effects animation (eg. fire, water, wind, etc) Straight Ahead

Real life material is hard to build keyframes and put in-betweens Animators need to carefully plan before animation process - Use video references - Storyboard/animatics Application in Stop Motion

Done in blocking stage in 3D Animation production More commonly used in character animation Time efficient and good for production Better to keep track of scale of characters/objects Pose to Pose

Example

SA and P2P can be combined esp with overlapping motions. For example: You can animate the body with P2P method, but use SA with other elements like hair/ear/clothes
