Zebly Titan and
the Mystery of GLOP!
I t was another fine day in Megaminster-on-the-Wold.
The sun was shining, the birds were tweeting, and down
in the park dogs were running around in circles. However,
up on the roof of the town hall, the superhero Zebly Titan
was brooding.
“From high above, the mighty Zebly Titan
surveys Megaminster. When his home planet
and family mysteriously disappeared, this
superhero journeyed to Earth and became
a champion of justice. A lone hero with no
friends and one enemy: EVIL!”
Unfortunately, Zebly’s cool speech was
interrupted by his friend, Supercorn Bob.
“Hey, Zebly, I know you like brooding
and making cool speeches about
yourself, but we still have to patrol
the city and I have a dentist’s

Even though he liked the idea of being a

The birthday of
the Fairy Queen
Many years ago, in the green hills of Ireland, in a wood
that was deep and dark, under the shadow of a craggy
hill, there lived a girl named Nora.
She lived in a tiny stone cottage with her loving family, and her granny used to tell
her stories about the fairy folk who lived beneath the earth and liked to meet by

Around the World Tales
The Calabash Kids
In the land of Tanzania, there lived a woman named
Shindo. Her husband had died many years before and
she had no children, so she had to do all the work on her
small farm by herself.
Every day from dawn to dusk, she would
clean the house and yard, chop firewood,
weed the garden and tend to her bananas
and maize and millet, before cooking her
evening meal and eating alone.
One night, she prayed, “My life is so
hard and lonely, please send someone
to help me!”
The next day, she found some strange
seeds outside. Puzzled, she planted them
in a patch of earth behind her hut and
tended them carefully. Over the next few
weeks, shoots sprang up, which grew into
lush vines that sprouted a crop of fine
calabashes. When they were ready,
Shindo carefully harvested the
calabashes, cut off their tops,
scooped out the pulp inside, and
then carefully put them on the roof
of her hut to dry in the sun.

Myths and Legends
Redhorn and
the Great Race
Many long years ago, in a mighty lodge in the forest, there lived
ten brothers. All were known far and wide as great warriors and
hunters – except for the youngest, who was smaller than the rest
and preferred to stay indoors by the fire.
38
One day, his eldest brother Kuni threw some deer lungs at him
and said that he should eat them to grow big and strong, so
everybody made fun of the youngest brother and called him
‘He-Who-Had-Deer-Lungs-Thrown-At-Him’!
When the brothers heard the news that a big race was going
to be held, and that the winner would get to marry the daughter
of a great chief, they all wanted to take part. However, Kuni told
the youngest that he had to stay home.
When the brothers arrived for the race, they saw that all the
greatest nature spirits were taking part – the Bear and Deer and
Turtle spirits, the night spirits, and even the mighty Thunderbird!
