Dear Danny,
It is a pleasure to work with you and the Spectra Venue Management team in managing the operations
of the Utah Valley Convention Center. The attitudes expressed by all are very welcoming and add to the
positive experiences of those choosing to use the facilities.
The overall performance has again exceeded expectations and it appears that we are well positioned to
have an even better performance for the coming year. It is significant to note that since opening in May
of 2012 the calculated benefit to the community has exceeded the original investment in constructing
the convention center. This benefit, which is in excess of 50 million dollars has created business and
employment opportunities which have added to the well being and quality of life for the citizens of Utah
County. While this was the purpose in making the investment, to do it in only 4 ½ years is phenomenal.
We look forward to the benefits continuing as well as the ongoing positive relationship we have going
forward to achieve a prosperous and beneficial future.
Cordially,

Larry A. Ellertson
Utah County Commission Chairman

JOEL RACKER

January 25, 2017

To Whom It May Concern,
Utah Valley’s visitor economy was strong in 2016! And, for the first time, we
have data that shows how travel and tourism contributes to Utah County’s
diverse economy. Research provided by the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute
revealed that visitors spent over $450 million in Utah County in 2015 -
approximately 5.5% of total county-wide sales. Utah County sales tax revenue
for the same period was $172.3 million of which $14.5 million or 8.4% was the
direct result of travel and visitation to Utah Valley.
Conventions and group events held in the Utah Valley Convention Center (UVCC)
contributed to our strong visitor economy. In 2016, 56.8% of the Utah Valley
Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (UVCVB) group bookings were a direct result of
having the UVCC within our community - a 6.2% increase over the previous
year. Strong collaboration and a combined team effort made this possible.
Here’s a look at the room-night generating events that were booked in 2016 by
the Utah Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau – those that will use the Utah
Valley Convention Center:

 40 Contracted Groups/Events
 12,743 Total Hotel Room Nights – up 10.2%
 25,872 Attendees
 $6.123 Million in Future Economic Impact – up 6.2%
Utah Valley’s visitor economy is growing. We value and appreciate the strong
partnership we have with Spectra Venue Management. Working together we’ll
achieve even greater results and continue to grow our visitor economy and build
Utah Valley’s reputation as the ideal meetings, events and group travel
destination!
Sincerely,

Joel M. Racker
President/CEO

SPECTRA'S HISTORY AT UVCC

2012 - 2016

Spectra and Utah County entered into a promising partnership in May 2011, shortly after breaking ground where
the Utah Valley Convention Center would be constructed. Spectra management was heavily involved in the con-
struction phases of the facility as well as forming partnerships and establishing procedures with the Utah Valley
Convention & Visitors Bureau. Pre-sales for the UVCC started immediately and once the building was framed
out and secure, hard hat tours with meeting planners were facilitated by sales staff. On May 4, 2012, the Utah
Valley Chamber of Commerce held the first event at the Utah Valley Convention Center with our official Grand
Opening to the public taking place on May 12.
Spectra has successfully established relationships with the local community and continues to drive business to the
Convention Center while creating economic impact for the county. With the County’s initiative of reducing sub-
sidy on the facility, Spectra management has been successful accomplishing this goal annually. In 2015, just after
being open three and a half years, Spectra management performed exceptionally well and produced an operating
profit.
In 2016, Utah County once again selected Spectra for management of their world class venue with a contract ex-
tension through December 31, 2022.

SIGNATURE National Pro Grid League

EVENTS National Pro Grid League (NPGL) made its national debut
this summer in Utah when NPGL came together in one
13 location for a Nationally televised match on Pro Grid TV.
NPGL is rising in popularity and consists of professional
athletes who compete as co-ed teams. Outside of train-
ing and competing each team was able to enjoy the beauty
and outdoor activities that Utah Valley has to offer. With 8
teams competing in three separate matches over the course
of a month, the NPGL consumed nearly 3,000 hotel room
nights and offered a great economic impact to Utah County.

Clay Walker Patient Program

County Music Star and Multiple Sclerosis Patient, Clay
Walker teamed up with Teva Pharmaceuticals to host public
service seminars and benefit concerts to educate those living

Mormons and families, friends, and Church leaders in seek-
ing to live healthy and productive lives consistent with their
faith or heritage. This international convention is held
annually at the UVCC and provides support, education, and
community to members ages 13 and up.

Evan McMullin for President Rally

On November 7, the day before the 2016 Presidential Elec-
tion, Evan McMullin and Mindy Finn drew in the local
community to the UVCC to rally support of their efforts
to provide an additional candidate option for Americans.
McMullin’s four-month presidential run concluded in Provo
due to family ties and involvement with The Church of Jesus
Christ Latter-day Saints. McMullin and Finn were well
supported at the Convention Center brining in over 1000
attendees

JROTC Service Championships

In February, the Civilian Marksmanship Program brought
over 100 kids, representing schools from across the county,
in an air rifle competition that took place in the UVCC Ex-
hibit Halls. Three-Position Air Rifle Shooting has become
one of the most popular and fastest growing forms of shoot-
ing sports competition for high school students and younger.
Competitors fire from 10 meters in three different positions.
Competitors could also qualify for the National JROTC
Championship during this event.

GREAT

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Spectra understands the importance of creating an exceptional experience for venue clients and attendees, so much that
they have always been at the forefront with developing and delivering programs that help to educate and motivate employ-
ees to go above and beyond.
Since the beginning, we have offered a company-wide customer service program called “How You Doin’?” which was
designed to encourage its employees to provide superior service to all patrons as well as create an enjoyable and energetic
workplace. Because customer service is at the foundation of who we are as an organization, and with the merging of Spec-
tra companies, a new corporate-wide customer service platform was rolled out in support of our company Credo, GREAT
Experience. The GREAT Experience is a repeatable service model that we can use in every interaction with our clients,
customers and employees.

FUTURE

OUTLOOK

2017 promises to be another successful year for the
Utah Valley Convention Center as we enter the year
with more events on the books than at the start of any
previous year. Some of the new groups that the com-
munity will welcome in 2017 include the National
Association of Landscape Professionals, World Fed-
eration of Nondestructive Evaluation Centers, Rocky
Mountain Fleet Management Association, Ameri-
can Astronomical Society, Utah Assistive Technol-
ogy Teams, Utah Trucking Association, Utah Multi
Tiered System or Supports, and several new regional
dance conventions. In addition to these great groups,
we also look forward to the return of the Structural
Engineers Association of Utah, the Center for the
Improvement of Teacher Education & Schooling,
LDStorymakers, the Society for Human Resources
Management of Utah, Affirmation, EMS Associates,
FairMormon, Utah Association for Domestic Vio-
lence Treatment, Utah Water Users Association, and
the Utah Valley Marathon Expo.
We will continue to seek opportunities to remain in-
volved in the great community around us and fur-
ther contribute to the tremendous growth that Utah
County is experiencing. We will continue to establish
our presence in Utah Valley by participating in local
chapters of MPI, USAE, IAVM and the Utah Valley
Chamber of Commerce.
Our focus remains on maximizing the economic im-
pact into the Utah Valley economy by bringing visi-
tors into Utah Valley through meetings and conven-
tions, and allow them to experience all that we have
to offer, and turn them into regular visitors. We will
continue to work with the Utah Valley Convention &
Visitors Bureau as well as our local hotel partners in
helping Utah Valley realize our potential as a conven-
tion destination.
