Significantly more people turned to The Arc for legal help in 2015. They sought help to face legal issues that
involve essential human needs, such as protection from abusive relationships, safe and habitable housing, and
access to necessary health care, disability services to help lead independent lives, family law issues including
child support and custody actions, and relief from financial exploitation and an increase in need for more ad-

Letter from the Honorary Chair

October 17, 2015

Dear Friends,

On behalf of our FedEx team members worldwide, it is an honor to extend
greetings as we gather to celebrate the Commemoration of The Arc Mid-South’s 65th Anniversary.
What began as a grassroots movement has become one of the largest disability-rights organizations in
Tennessee.

The unparalleled work accomplished by The Arc Mid-South gives us many reasons to celebrate this
occasion. “Creating Independence….Supporting Literacy” is such a monumental aspect of how we
function as members of our community. Literacy and independence helps individuals obtain the skills
necessary to make informed decisions. Therefore, literacy is an era of importance in our evolving soci-
ety.

As we celebrate this occasion, we also celebrate the progression and the achievements of individuals
with disabilities. We’re pleased to have been a part of this Commemorative occasion, and extend our
sincere appreciation to the leaders, staff, corporate sponsors, contributors, and volunteers who have
given their time, talents and resources toward this milestone.
As a Memphis-based company listed among Fortune magazine’s “World’s Most Admired Companies,”
and Black Enterprise’s “40 Best Companies for Diversity,” FedEx is proud of The Arc’s work which
aligns with our commitment to community engagement, education, and diversity.

Thank you for continuing to be a conduit of instilling literacy, empowerment and independence in our
community.

Sincerely,

Shannon A. Brown, 2015 Honorary Chair
