Our sweet staffies are all trying to hypnotise you and remind
you how cuddly they are on a cold night. Ripple, Mojito,
Raven, Brandy and Marley are looking very dapper in their
scarves and would all enjoy their very own family to cuddle up
to. Staffies are such loyal, people orientated dogs.

It will not be long before these beautiful creatures will have the
opportunity to run free in our Freedom Dog Park thanks to all
of you caring supporters who want to ensure they have a

It is so lovely to touch base with Selma and share her 11th
birthday (p11). It is sad that she is now blind again after all the
work that was done on her eyes but she is well loved and
cared for. That is what is most important for a dog.

FREEDOM PARK A REALITY!

Our dream was to create our own off-leash park at our shelter, DoggieWood. To be called the Freedom Dog
Park it would be a large, grassed doggie playground. Of course it needed secure fencing and proper access gates.
With an expected cost of $15,000 - we needed your help. On 4th June 2018 our special project was launched
through media outlets including facebook. Due to an amazing response from our supporters in 24 HOURS we
had attained our $15,000 goal. DoggieRescue would like to thank all of our supporters as each and every donation
helped us to achieve our goal. Some comments left on our everydayhero donation pages are reproduced here....

Happy Gotcha Day (and 11th birthday!)
to my little girl Selma!!

When Monika rescued Selma from Blacktown
Pound she was blind, had a flea infestation,
hair loss, bad skin, bad teeth and was very
thin. The Vet who did the first Doggie Rescue
assessment form had written down her
temperament as ‘sweet, quiet’. It breaks my heart
to think that someone would have abandoned
such a gentle, perfectly behaved little dog?!

With the huge hearts of Monika’s
team and Dr Smith of Nth Shore
Animal Hospital, she was treated,
operated on and they regained her
vision back in one eye! Yippee!!

Some time has passed since I
adopted her, and Selma needed
another surgery on her ‘good eye’
as her vision was deteriorating. This
surgery was to delay the inevitable
blindness (which it did), but sadly
now, the retina is untreatable and
Selma has finally gone totally blind.

TACKLING THE TOUGH STUFF

J: You think running a dog rescue shelter should be about
rehoming as many dogs as possible? I hear people say :

• A dog is a dog right? A home in a “real home” is better

Express your love and commitment to the doggies who no one else cares about!
Hello Readers,
Lifesavers is a quick and easy way to assist
Monika and her staff and volunteers, to
continue to rescue the lost, abandoned,
abused and neglected dogs of Sydney and
NSW. The donation that you choose to make
goes directly into saving dogs from death row
and providing them with a safe haven until
they reach their forever homes. As a “no kill”
organisation, your donation will enable all at
“Doggiewood” to give them a bone (and warm
bed) until they find a new home.

“ Volunteering at Doggie
Rescue is my favourite part
of the week, ” Betty

I look forward to coming to DoggieRescue after a stressful
week of classes and studying! I started off as a regular
volunteer dog walker back in 2015/2016, and loved the
energy and the friendliness of all the staff so much that
I asked how to get involved, and became a customer
service and harnessing volunteer last year.

I’ve started juggling
both roles and regularly
volunteer both days
every weekend, and
getting to interact with
the dogs and chat with
all the lovely people is
the most rewarding
thing I’ve ever done.
Making a difference is
something I’ve always
prioritised and loved!

I’ve gotten to know a lot of
regular dog walkers as well,
and feel so at home
amongst the other
volunteers and walkers at
DoggieRescue now, and the
dogs certainly help to
brighten my days!
