which results in millions of healthy dogs and cats being

Some adoption advice from Lola…
Hey Doggie Lovers,
So you want to adopt a dog and you have decided to give a
rescued dog a forever home. WOW! That’s super but I have to
tell you I was not the dog I am today when my mummy Tovah
adopted me. It took time for me to achieve perfection and to be
the absolute super star I am now. I have added (below) the
3/3/3 general rule on adopting a rescue dog. We all need time.
We all need love and patience. We all need security. Follow my
advice and in time you may almost adopt a dog as good as me.

ADOPTION UPDATES WE CATCH UP WITH POSTCARDS FROM EX DR DOGS “GINNY” & “ALFIE”
“Ginny”
Hi Everyone,
On the 4th April we adopted the beautiful Ginny. There
was definitely an instant connection between her and my
whole family. Our first day with Ginny was rather funny.
We have a two storey house and Ginny could go up the
stairs but not down (she was so scared)!!! My 17 year old
daughter had to carry her down the stairs. The next day
was spent training her to use the stairs. I am happy to
report she is now a master of them. Ginny is the most
beautifully natured girl. She has fitted in perfectly. She
loves runs on the beach and cuddles, Ginny is a massive
bed hog! She has no concept of her size, she thinks she
is a lap dog. Ginny also LOVES visitors, everyone is
greeted with a big kiss, whether you want it or not. We
love her so much. Melissa

BOTH ARE LOVED…. & LOVING, LIVING THEIR LIFE TO THE MAX WITH THEIR FOREVER FAMILIES…...
Dear Monika and Team,
For the 3 month adoptaversary of Alfie
(formerly known as Surfer) we wanted
to thank you from the bottom of our
hearts for rescuing him and bringing
the most wonderful, loving, funny and
smart dog into our lives. Over the last
months Alfie has made a lot of puppy
and human friends in and around
Balmain and we have formed a strong
family bond and a deep friendship for
life. He is the dearest thing to us and
we can’t wait for all the small and big
adventures that lie ahead...
Love and a loud thank-you-woof,

TO ANYONE WHO HAS EVER
LOVED A DOG…
I’ve taken longer to write this than
I thought I would. I didn’t want to
write it as it meant Ruby’s no
longer here, also, I wanted to
make sure it was worthy of her.
I understand that Ruby was in a
puppy farm (detestable) until age
5 and was then dumped at the
pound, pregnant and ill. Monika
rescued her from Death Row like
thousands of others and Ruby
(then called Francis) ended up
at DoggieRescue in 2009.
I’ve always loved dogs and,
finding myself at a loose end at

Ruby had never learned to play, she had been busy having
pups, so she never chased a ball or anything, but we had
our own game. I would tickle her neck saying “Love Dat
Gal” and she would bat my hand away with her paw. I’d
wait..she’d look around as if to say “well, go on, do it again!”
This would go on for ages until one of us got tired. I’m SO
glad I videoed our game once and it’s on my phone, a
treasured possession.
Ruby and I had “adventures”. We took off in a campervan
for road trips, she sat up the front like the queen, looking
out of the window. We stopped overnight at campsites up
the coast or down the coast and she endeared herself to
everyone, giving me courage that I wouldn’t have had on
my own. I used to load my kayak on top of my car and
Ruby, following me everywhere, would just sit expectantly
at the front door taking it for granted she was coming,
“Why on earth would she bother going without me?” was
the attitude. (She was spot on!). In most of the local cafes,
Ruby almost had her own chair. We always took her
blanket with her and with her immaculate ‘café manners’
and batting her eyelids she would often score a little bit of
ham. She got used to ‘hanging out’ with me.
“ I had to have 6 months of chemo in 2013. Ruby My little Rube was 17 in April 2020 and, brave to

realising I wasn’t with them she would dig her
heels in and they’d have to bring her back. This I’m so glad that I ‘saw the light’ and adopted Ruby.
was a good thing really, because even if it was I’m so grateful to Monika for the years of joy I’ve

of me had been cut off. I now realise that I chatted
to her all the time and have to stop myself as I look
at the empty passenger seat. When I go anywhere,
people automatically look down at my side for my
little mate. She was very, very special. I do hope
that I have captured her essence in this piece.
Ruby, my heart is broken. I will never forget
you, you are safe in a special compartment
in my heart forever. I feel like I can’t manage
without you, but I will keep going because I
know that you would be nudging my elbow
with that wet nose as if to say “Never mind
that, I’m ready, let’s go”.
