Greetings one and all from Missy, now residing,
very happily, at my forever home with my new
adoptive parents and cat sister in Chateau Chat!
You might remember I was a little overweight and
that this restricted my ability to groom properly?
My new parents started me on a managed food
regime from Day 1. My diet and exercise program
is slow but steady and I’m already feeling and
looking years younger. A lot of the time though, all
I need is just TLC, as we all want and need! I can
now transcend the stairs TWO at a time and at
great speed!! I love following my mum about the
house and keeping her company as she does her
household duties.
Wishing all my friends at the cattery at Monika’s
whom I have left behind, a loving, caring, safe
forever home too. Love from Missy and the

As we celebrate a brand new year we look forward to the
challenge that rescue brings. We know that there will be
many cats and kittens just like Squeak, Benjamin & their
mum Mrs Tiggywinkle below, needing our help and hope to
see more adoptions. Every cat adopted helps us to save
another, and every cat has their own story to tell...
BACKGROUND: Mrs Tiggywinkle was dumped with newly born kittens. While she was at The Cottage Animal
Hospital a tiny kitten was found abandoned without his mummy. Tentatively he was put with Mrs Tiggywinkle’s
other kittens and she lovingly accepted him as if he was her own. All the kittens found homes except Squeak
and the little orphan, still homeless, is Benjamin. The shy mum, Mrs Tiggywinkle is also still homeless.

A LOVING FAMILY By KATHRYN
DR Volunteer
Hello Readers,
I volunteer in the DoggieRescue cattery and wanted to tell you about Squeak and Benjamin, now 1 year old,
who are best buddies and snuggle bugs! Mrs Tiggywinkle ( above left ) is Squeak’s mum & Benjamin’s
adopted mum, and is so lovely with her boys... and I even saw her grooming Cordial the other day...she is
such a caring, loving mummy cat. I could see her in a home where there were foster kittens perhaps, if she
had to be separated from her boys, and if they were split up too. It makes me feel sad. Mrs Tiggywinkle is
starting to come out of her shell. I can feed her treats by hand now and even lightly brush my hand by her
as she runs past. I wonder is she doing that purposely to test it out, seeing if she could grow to like being
petted. How do we know what they might be feeling? I just hope that the new year brings them all a forever
home and the security of being loved. They so deserve it.

Travelling In Cars With Cats!
Cats like the comforts of home and the familiarity of
sounds, sights and smells but there are lots of reasons
why you want your cat to travel: holidays with the family,
moving house, vet visits, show cats going to a show.
Cats don’t understand cars and a car’s vibrations,
starting and stopping, the swooshing sounds and
honking horns. So what can you do to make your cat’s
travel experience and yours as stress-free as possible?
Firstly, getting ready to go somewhere is usually
frantically busy and it’s easy for the humans of the
household to get stressed. Try to stay calm so that
your cat stays calm.
• PACKING Even if you are tired it is NOT a

• THE VET
Have your vet check your cat’s health before you leave and if
your cat is known to meow constantly in the car from stress, your
vet can prescribe a mild sedative to calm them to be given an hour
before you travel.
Check where the closest vet is to your destination so that you are
prepared in case of emergency.
• IF THEY ARE PRONE TO CAR/TRAVEL SICKNESS
Leave several hours between their last meal and the time you are
about to travel. Or, if you are travelling first thing in the morning,
don’t feed Kitty. 8 to 10 hours is fine for them without food as long
as they are kept hydrated. This also will help deter Kitty’s need to
go to the toilet. There are water bowls that will attach to the front
door of most carriers. Just a small amount at the bottom is By Antonette Diorio

keep the car’s air-conditioning on cool.
• BE ‘PREPARED’ FOR THEM TO WANT
TO GO TO THE TOILET.
You probably know your cat’s meow when they want
to go, so listen for that as you travel and have a small
kitty litter tray or plastic container with lid and litter
within, ready in case you need it. If kitty does have
an accident in the carrier, have FS10 wipes or spray
ready to wipe down the carrier and another one of
Kitty’s blankets or towels ready as a substitute. 2.
• NEVER LEAVE KITTY IN THE CAR
Cars heat up fast and you could endanger your
cat’s life by leaving them in a car unattended.
• WHEN YOU ARRIVE.
Put them in a safe “wet room” like the bathroom
or laundry with their kitty litter trays, water, and
Feliway Diffuser to help them settle. Feed them.
Check the pet-friendly house or hotel/motel room 3.
and secure it so they can’t escape.
If you’ve moved house, follow the “safe room rules”
you used when bringing Kitty into your home for the
first time. If on holidays, enjoy yourself but evaluate
whether or not it was worth the trouble when planning
your next holiday.
Next time Mummy
goes travelling I’m
going to board at

BUNNY HAPPY!
Rabbits are active and
intelligent animals and will
suffer if they get bored. As
domesticated rabbits are
usually confined for most
of the day, freedom and
choice are important.
Crea ng hiding places for your rabbit
Providing your rabbits with hiding places is very important to their health and happiness. Rabbits tend to
hide if they're feeling afraid, unwell, stressed or want time away from other rabbits or humans. Rabbits are a
prey species, and it's therefore important they're able to hide if they feel threatened by potential predators.
Crea ng a rabbit-friendly hiding place
Providing hiding places in their home allows rabbits
to escape and hide, helping them feel safe and
reassured. You should give them hiding places in
addition to their main shelter (such as their hutch,
cage, shed).
Position hiding places in areas free from the sights
and smells of potential predators, such as foxes,
cats, dogs, ferrets, birds of prey and/or people.
Place them away from draughts, out of direct
