Over the last few years we have been seeing the kitten-season become year long, climate
change is likely to be one contributing factor but the major factor is lack of desexing! It has
been reported to us that cats are breeding multiple times during summer, and the flow of
pregnant cats and little kitty-babes does not stop during winter.

Absolutely heart-breaking is the news of the So each cat that is not desexed may produce on

• Update WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Compiled by December Cover Girl Queen

Postcard from Queen & her forever Family!!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to give you an update on my new life. I am becoming more and more confident every day,
and am getting to love and be affectionate with my new family. I already sit on their laps for cuddles,
with lots of purrs and smooching, only of course when I feel like it! I am also becoming more
adventurous, coming down from my safe space and exploring more of my new home. The other girls
( felines who already live here ) just keep their distance from me, content to sleep. No confrontations,
just staring. I have formed a bond with the most beautiful cat who sits and stares at me also. Funny
thing—she looks a lot like me! My new family loves my super powers; the way I can jump so high!! I am
always so sweet and happy to see them when they return from going out for a short while. I just wish
that all the cats in this magazine could find a home as good as mine! Happy 2017. Love from Queen

HAPPY ENDING STORIES OF 2016

12 JANUARY 2017 DOGGIERESCUE.COM CATS E-MAGAZINE

In December one Sydney pound had reached crisis point. Cats
& Kittens were pouring in daily to an already overcrowded
pound. There were 19 cats designated for destruction...

It seemed these poor, innocent victims of Christmas were simply doomed to die for how could so many
be adopted/rescued just a few weeks before Christmas when rescue shelters themselves were so full?

I followed this heartbreaking story on the
facebook site below, watching, hoping that
somehow a miracle would occur. I noticed
that many of the cats who were featured in
our Christmas Edition of Cats E-Magazine
were listed for destruction on Tuesday 6/12
including a very frightened pair of
surrendered cats called Tango & Sheba.

https://www.facebook.com/
Campbelltownpoundcats/

Please, don’t blame the pound who had no
option with so many cats and kittens being
dumped. The onus is on all the irresponsible
people who don’t desex their pets. Who not
only abandon them but at the worst possible
time of the year to give them a chance of
adoption, when all pounds are so full. I felt I
didn’t want to see the end of this tragic story.

But I had not counted on people power as cat lovers joined
together to try and save these precious lives. One by one
they put their hands up to help in what truly shows the tre-
mendous rehoming tool of social media…..

As Tuesday dawned facebook went into overdrive. Cat lovers who
could not adopt donated, so many of the urgent cats had a CASH
BACK scheme, many with their adoption fees to be reimbursed in
full if a home could be found. As the day progressed cat’s names
came up with ADOPTED/ RESCUED and people prayed that some-
how a few of these precious lives would be saved. I know I did.

Tuesday night this message was put up ...“ We want to thank so many people today. A few days ago, 19 cats
were due to be put to sleep at 2:00pm today. Today saw a mammoth effort from rescues and adopters to
save these cats. We want to thank the sponsors, people donating toward advertising, the people who
adopted, the transporters, the rescues involved and the massive support network on this page. People were
all coming out of the woodwork to help. You all helped to save 19 lives this week. Thank you all so much.”

Note: Tango & Sheba scored an adoption, together. To all you wonderful people —THANK YOU!!!

JANUARY 2017 DOGGIERESCUE.COM CATS E- MAGAZINE 13

This crisis is happening NOW in some pound, probably Imp: PCC6230
in many pounds. Even though overworked pound staff 8wks Ginger Male
and rescue shelters try their hardest not all CATS/ Hawkesbury Pound
KITTENS are able to be saved. Many perish, especially CLICK HERE
during the Dec/Jan holiday period. Irresponsible pet
owners simply walk away without a thought for their
dumped pet. …..

• It is NOT ILLEGAL to surrender a pet, or
to not desex your pet and let it have
kittens.

• It isn’t illegal to abandon a pet who loves
you without a care for it’s future or if it
survives, or the fact that it will be so
afraid when left to die in a strange
environment.

It is not illegal, but it is absolutely
heartless…

4 WAYS YOU TOO CAN HELP
SAVE LIVES!

1. ADOPT—DON’T SHOP Are you seriously wanting a KITTEN / CAT this Christmas? Are you committed to
caring for your new pet for the next perhaps 20 years? If the answer is YES then please...adopt a homeless
kitty from a pound. They are just as beautiful and their lives are equally precious and worth saving.

2. CAN’T ADOPT THEN NETWORK On these two pages are links to large pounds. Scroll down the lists of
kittens and cats looking for homes—SPREAD THE WORD! There are thousands of cat lovers on
TWITTER and FACEBOOK. Send these links to all of your friends.

3. VOLUNTEER Contact the pounds on these pages (or your local pound) and ask them how you can help.
Donate your time and resources.

4. FOSTER A KITTY If you are really serious in saving a life enquire about rescue groups in your area. Do
you have a secure environment where a kitten/s or a cat could be cared for and a few weeks/months to
spare?

On the following pages in this E-Magazine you will see many homeless kitties urgently needing
adoption or the reprieve that a foster home brings. If you are looking for a new furry friend and
are serious about caring for this pet for the rest of it’s life PLEASE consider one of these very
deserving kitties whose only fault has been to be owned and dumped by families who should
never had owned a pet in the first place. To give a homeless kitty a home not only gives that pet
a home but literally means that you have SAVED A LIFE— is there any better feeling?

This time last year I was brand new and so spoilt and loved by my family...

I know my My family abandoned me
family will but I’m not sure why..
come and
take me They just could not keep me
home. so they said goodbye…
My time is running out and
They said I’m not sure how much

But my paws are crossed that

lucky day!
I rub my head upon my cage

Oh, please will I find my

I am so
frightened—

THOUSANDS OF CATS
& KITTENS WILL
PERISH OVER THE
HOLIDAY SEASON.

Dumped by their uncaring families
who either don’t look for them when
they are lost or surrender them to an

I was so
contented
and loved.

I would
spend my day
sleeping and
waiting for
my family to
come home.

Life was
good but
then...

Most of the cats sitting in pounds right now are
abandoned pets. The reasons given for giving
up their pets range from...

• We are moving
• We have a baby now
• He’s not cute anymore
• I am allergic to cats
• I did not think he would live this long
• We are going on holidays and will get

another when we come back

A stranger came and took me away
