SEPTEMBER 2017 DOGGIERESCUE.COM CATS E-MAGAZINE 21

Vaccination has revolutionised control of infectious disease in our pets. It is essential that all pets
are adequately vaccinated to help protect the pet population as a whole. Responsible pet care
requires kittens be given their initial course of vaccinations, but this cannot protect them for the
rest of their lives. Adult cats require regular vaccination to maintain immunity against disease.

When you adopt a kitty from DoggieRescue they come with F3 vaccinations for all kittens and cats are vaccinated in
accordance with standard procedures, ie if people adopt from us then the kitties are initially covered and you will be
provided with a Vaccination Certificate from The Cottage Animal Hospital.

All of our cats are tested for FIV/Felv and that our FIV cats ( of which we have two at present Logan & Levi see page
6 for photos ) are kept as healthy as possible to keep their immunity "up". All vaccinations take time to be effective
and cats/kittens should be kept safe and away from other cats/kittens during that time, either in the house and in
outdoor enclosures, we also recommend good healthy diets. Outdoor enclosures are a great idea for any cat owner
to keep kitty safe and also stop them from mixing with other cats and therefore not at risk of picking up infectious
diseases from unvaccinated cats.

We highly recommend that after adoption that adopters engage with a good reliable vets such as The Cottage
Animal Hospital for the continued good health and care of their new family member.

With the recent outbreak of the highly contagious Feline Enteritis (also known as Feline Panleucopenia) it is more
important than ever that your precious kitty is protected so if you are unsure when you cat is due for vaccination, or if
it is overdue now is a good time to check with your vet because your pets ongoing health is of vital importance.

3.) Rabbits can be easily housetrained to use a litter tray! It is
easier to housetrain a desexed rabbit. Rabbits have good
memories and get to know where everything is in their territory.

4.) Rabbits are very clean animals who groom themselves and
their bonded partner, from head to toe around five times a day! This
means you rarely need to give them a bath.

5.) Rabbits chew 120 times a minute and like to pick their favourite
foods. A clean, fresh pasture / oaten hay should make up about
80% of their diet with plenty of fresh leafy green vegetables and
grass. Occasional treats are chopped fruit, carrots, sultanas and
sprouted birdseed.

6.) Rabbits use their long ears to pick up sounds from every
direction and can hear in two directions at once! Rabbits use the
large surface area of their ears to help regulate body temperature.
