JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E- MAGAZINE 5 Dear DoggieRescue Supporters, As we embrace a brand new year DoggieRescue is looking forward to the challenges ahead. Our goals for 2026 are to save as many animals as we can and find them forever, loving homes. IN 2025 WE SAW 183 DOGS AND 30 CATS\/KITTENS ADOPTED Some of the dogs, especially the smaller breeds, came and were adopted before we even got to know them very well but others, they became like family to us. We loved them, cared for them and said goodbye as each in turn went to meet their new families. The adop%ons that stay in our minds are dogs like Bhodie, Forest, and our very long term girl Roo (see story on p16) and of course who could forget dear Lilly at 15 years of age.. such a special lady adopted her and also li*le Paddy, who was also 15 years old, adopted this month. There were dogs too, the long term ones like Marvel who was adopted by his foster family (see p17). Daisy also comes to mind. She was a long term girl with medical issues and was adopted this month. Especially hard to adopt are the bonded pairs but our policy at DoggieRescue is that if dogs are bonded that they stay together and some of the pairs we saw adopted were Rose and Blanche, Elphaba and Glinda, also Xaden and Violet, Taco and Nacho, Dutch and Arthur , all adopted together. We had many ‘seniors’ adopted too like Bobby, Evie, Ollie, Lucy, and Danny (see his story on p29). Chippy, a0er wai%ng so very long, finally found a foster family to love him. Another long term girl who comes to mind is Tessa who stars in our “ Up Close & Personal’ pages 32 & 33. A late special adop%on was our gorgeous very long term husky boy Fox. (p15) This year we saw some special dogs go to the ‘Rainbow Bridge’. Bear, Dougie, Poppy, Peyton, Haurace, Alex ‘Bubba’ Jones, Henry, Smudge and granny Florence just to name a few. But DoggieRescue is not just about RESCUE, it is also about REHABILITATION. Many animals come to us broken, both mentally and physically, it can take many long months for them to relax and feel happy. It can some%mes take even longer than that for abused dogs to feel safe and to be able to respond to the human touch and learn to trust again. Perhaps years. Two dogs who come to mind are Xanthe and Champ ( adopted together ) who stand out as our ‘ADOPTIONS OF THE YEAR’, see their story on p23. There are many more doggies, of all ages, shapes and sizes, wai2ng in pounds for that second chance at life. As our adop2on total grows towards 14,000, a goal that we should reach in 2026, please help us to be able to rescue the dogs passed by, the breeds discriminated against, the unsocialized...2mid and scared, the old and frail, and the sick who wait on death row.

JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE 15 As the year comes to a close it holds a very special adopon almost unl the last…. Late in 2021 DoggieRescue heard of the plight of some 100 huskies living in dreadful conditions and trying to exist with a small amount of food that was just thrown in their yard. We had two spare yards and managed to put our hands up for 30+ of these beautiful dogs. One of those rescued was Fox. This is his story of rehabilitation and finally how he found love and adoption with a DoggieRescue Volunteer. Fox has been with us around four years and in that time has changed a lot from the skinny, terrified dog that he was. I have walked him almost every week for 4 years, for ages only on a lead as he hated being harnessed. But slowly Fox learned to love walking and even eventually accepted the dreaded harness. Watching him blossom and come out of his shell, play with his pack mates and explore the beautiful outside world has been an absolute joy. He has taught me patience and shown me the power of resilience. After a very difficult start to life, he has become a strikingly handsome, a confident king surrounded by his adoring ladies (doggies and humans alike). Since meeting his new mum ( who has spent over a year working with him and building his trust ) his confidence has grown in leaps and bounds and he now walks for miles on end.She truly was meant to be his human! “ Fox...I will miss your morning howls before breakfast, chasing you around the yard to harness you and the many hilarious moments you gave me every shi\". But it is a Christmas wish come true that you are now in a real forever home. Happy life my li&le Fox…” Today (20th December ) is a very happy sad day, because my li&le Fox has finally found his forever home. This quirky orange husky had my heart from the moment he came in as part of the group of 30+ huskies we rescued from a mass hoarding situaon in late 2021. Fox was small and covered in battle scars and extremely skittish. He was picked on in every group we tried him in, so he spent a good few months on his own. He hated being on lead and it took ages to finally get him walking, so he had a pretty hard start at the shelter. I was immediately drawn to this shut down little doggie and we slowly introduced him to a group of lovely girl huskies (& Maddox!) and suddenly the lone wolf became the packleader! And from then on he really blossomed. A big thank you also to Fox’s long term sponsor who never lost hope he would find a home Story by: Michelle Ellio& DoggieRescue Kennel Hand (pictured below with Fox)

16 JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE Celebrang HAPPY ENDINGS for two dogs who have touched our hearts... “ DoggieRescue is not just about RESCUE, it is also about REHABILITATION. Many animals come to us broken, both mentally and physically, it can take many long months for them to relax and feel happy. It can sometimes take even longer than that for abused dogs to feel safe and to be able to respond to the human touch and learn to trust again. One such dog is Roo, below, and another special boy is Marvel opposite. There are many dogs, of all ages, shapes and sizes, waiting in pounds for that second chance at life. Help us to give them that chance.” POSTCARD FROM ROO I’ve had some solid training from my mummy, learning Heal, Recall & Threshold Training. Mum says I'm doing really well. At the time of writing this story I have been in my new home for 5 weeks. Mum thinks I might be a Ridgeback X Boxer. My goofyness comes from being crossed with a Boxer, she thinks. My favourite things to do are sunbaking in my big backyard, going for swimming outings and being a couch potato. I'm quite the show pony when I get a new squeaky toy as I like to show it off to Jack, prancing around with my head held high and then doing zoomies around the yard in excitement. I like looking at myself in mirrors too, but one thing that upsets me, especially when I'm sunbaking, is birds. They're way too noisy for me!! Forever home here I come! Hello everyone, my name is Roo! For those of you who don't remember me, I was living at DoggieRescue for about 4 years!!! I was very lucky to be adopted by my new mummy in November last year, 2025. My mummy told me she adopted me because it broke her heart how long i had been living in a shelter for, and that she wanted to rescue me because I had been overlooked for sooo long. “ I have a li\"le Foxy X brother called Jack, we are like a bonded Bonny and Clyde.” So to sum everything up, I love my new furever homeand my mummy, but most importantly, I thank Aunty Monika who saved me in the first place and was kindenough to accommodate me till I got adopted. I havebig wishes and hopes all my other doggy friends at Monika's find their forever homes real soon, especially my close buddies Bennet & Mason. Lots of woofy luv from little Roo. Thank you for adopng me mummy!

They fell in love with me and are now my mum and dad!!! In December one of my best friends Janelle Hollis, a volunteer at DoggieRescue who loves me and also wasmy sponsor, came for a visit. “It was really wonderful to be able to visit darling Marvie this week (thank you Marina ). He looks so relaxed, happy, healthy and loved. Being able to cuddle and pat him again was such a joy for me, and he even managed to land a few big sloppy kisses on my face I think he enjoyed his little pieces of frankfurt and some Dentastix, as well as his new Christmas toy.” says Janelle “ A beautiful photo of Marvel cuddled up to his new toy …” Janelle “ Thank you so much again Marina for taking such good care of him and giving him the home he dreamed of (and we dreamed for him). 16 JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE 1. 2. 3. 4. 18 TO FOSTER IS TO CARE Rose, Hayley & Butter FOR EVERYONE CONSIDERING BECOMING A FOSTER CARER... CONFESSIONS OF ‘A FAILED FOSTER CARER’ One thing I’ve always known is that I love dogs. The saddest day of my childhood was when I discovered dogs who couldn’t find homes were destroyed. As Aldous Huxley said, “Somewhere in the rain there will always be an abandoned dog that prevents you from being happy.” I work at Doggie Rescue and know many of the dear faces in this magazine well. I know their little personalities, their strengths and vulnerabilities. I know how they would blossom in the comfort and security of a loving home, because I have fostered so many. I currently share my home (and my king sized bed) with 11 doggie rescue dogs, who make my life a delight! As I write little Maltese Chrissy is on my lap. I brought her home many months ago because she has terminal cancer, but Chrissy is thriving. Special medications are keeping her illness at bay and she is feisty and joyful and passionately loyal. She has a dance in her step and a grin on her face. I let her sleep next to my pillow because she was so insistent. Her pretty little face is the first thing I see on waking. She follows me everywhere. I brought dear old gentleman Shih Tzu Freddo home because he was chronically ill at rescue with a bad cough. He lay in his bed all day and didn’t do much. With the extra warmth and comfort here and after some months of trialling medications, his symptoms have disappeared. He has a renewed joy that was dormant before and I often find him rolling on his back ecstatically happy. When he hears me wake in the morning he pushes everyone out of the way so he can nuzzle my neck. When Sue passed away late last year, she left three of her dogs to come to DoggieRescue to seek new homes. One, Luc , was adopted by a friend of Sue’s,the other two Jordie and Mimi ( pictured above ) are still waiting for their new homes. By Sue Cuneo Jordie Mimi DEDICATED TO SUE CUNEO, A VERY SPECIAL LADY WHO PASSED AWAY IN 2025. I was asked by Monika to put together an article about the passing of Sue Cuneo late last year. To honour her memory and her years of volunteering and care of animals. Being a ‘Facebook friend’ of Sue’s I knew of the work she did to help animals in dire need. Sue fought for animals who had no voice and made a huge difference in her life to the suffering and pain of animals who had nobody to care about their fate. But how to explain the very special person that was Sue? Then I thought… what better way to honour her memory than to publish an article she wrote. This story, about a ‘failed foster carer’, appeared in April 2014 DoggieRescue Magazine and it is as true and pertinent today as it was all those years ago. Sue you will be very sadly missed. Corinne

JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E- MAGAZINE 19 When I walk he walks right behind me and bashes hishead against my legs. I had no idea before that there was such affection in him. I loved him so much that I had to adopt him. My most recent foster, Randle was returned a year ago because the lady who adopted him was unwell. He’d been so sad to be back at rescue. What he loves most is to find a comfy, secluded place to curl up like a cat and sleep. He couldn’t always manage that at rescue, but my house has so many good spots where he can toast his old bones in the sun undisturbed. Cooked chicken and a fluffy bed and he’s in heaven. We do our best to care for the dogs at rescue, but loving foster homes are better because they offer the ideal conditions for the dogs to recover from the traumas of their previous lives. If you feel Huxley’s sorrow too, I have the remedy for you: open your home to a rescue dog. Become a foster carer like me. It gives you the chance to atone for our society’s wrongdoing; to give the dogs what’s been denied them; to restore their hope. To show them their love isn’t in vain. They’ll repay you a thousand fold. Of course, if you fall in love every time like I do, be prepared to buy a king size bed...you won’t regret it!! Sue Cuneo During my 10 years volunteering at DoggieRescue I came in contact with Sue on only a few occasions as we both fed on different days of the week. I remember the first time we met though, it was just before Christmas 2010, we were manning a DR stall in Martin Place for the official lighting of the Christmas tree by the Lord Mayor. DR was to be the\" charity of the year\". Although our paths rarely crossed I was always aware of Sue's presence, she was such a prominent part of the DR family of volunteers. Sadly, as a devoted dog lover, Sue leftbehind her precious fur babies, three of which weretaken in by Monika. I have now adopted one of them, beautiful Lucy. The fact that she was one of Sue's makes the adoption even more special, we love her so much and every day she let's us know the feeling is mutual. I like to imagine that Sue would approve. SEPTEMBER 2014 DOGGIERESCUE.COM MAGAZINE 27Article by: MARIO BASSI DR KENNEL HAND with input from JOHN & RHIANNE DR Volunteers 20 JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE Howie and Bernie — The Secret Agents of Monika’s My first story of 2026 is about a bonded pair: Bernadette and Howard - or as we affectionately call them, Howie and Bernie. Both have some English Staffy in their genes, but Dachshund and Shar Pei DNA give them two very distinct appearances. Bernie is around 5 years old, weighs 26 kg, and has a chocolate-coloured smooth coat. Howie is about 3 years old, 21kg, and has a tan smooth coat. They came together from a local pound, where they must have bonded. Both are incredibly friendly and adore human company - something staff notice every morning when they get their breakfast first. John and Rhianne, dog-walking volunteers who regularly take them out, say: “Howard and Bernadette are a great pair to walk. They are wonderfully easy going, energetic and affectionate. They love treats but will happily walk without much persuasion.” At Monika’s, we love pairing new dogs to help rebuild their confidence and happiness. It’s especially heartwarming to see how Bernie and Howie support each other from day one. As John and Rhianne observe: “While Howard may be smaller in stature of the two, he makes up for it in cheekiness and bravado. Bernie has a fondness for puddles, a great spirit of adventure and a very soft spot for Howard, regularly checking in on him when the opportunity presents.” Both dogs have unique personalities, perfectly captured by John and Rhianne: “Together they could be viewed as the Maxwell Smart and Agent 99 of Monika's; Howard as the somewhat clueless but charming secret agent, and Bernie as the rational brains sorting everything out. They do make a terrific team but can walk separately and confidently if the need arises.” DOGS IN FOCUS: LONG TERM BONDED PAIR BERNADETTE & HOWARD

JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE 236. Choosing the 2025 ADOPTION OF THE YEAR was not easy with so many very special dogs and families but the story of CHAMP & XANTHE, both very trauma+zed dogs who bonded together while at DoggieRescue and their adop+on together was truly remarkable . ADOPTION OF THE YEAR Background: Champ came from the pound first. He was totally shut down and refused to walk. Champ would not even eat when humans were around. He also came positive to heartworm. It took Champ many months to trust us but gradually Champ learned that not all humans hurt. Xanthe was one of the most nervous shut down dogs we had ever have seen when she came from the pound. She also would not eat when a human was present butover time started accepting treats from the hand. She was on high alert all the time. Over time at the shelter she made eye contact and accepted soft touches as well as ear cleaning but never trusted enough to seek human affection. These two terribly damaged dogs formed a bond and could not be separated... Champ and Xanthe were adopted by a very experiencedcouple who have had really nervous rescue dogs before and built their world around what those dogs could manage. This is their follow up story... Champ (forefront) & Xanthe Mee+ng Champ and Xanthe on 4th of March for an adop+on appointment was bi1ersweet. Bitter because it was so sad to see Champ just shut down listening to the noises of the shelter, probably thinking he was going back in there and being one of the many again. Also seeing Xanthe in flight mode with her anxiety high, on edge and just wanting out of there. It was sweet in that Xanthe was curious and did take some treats off me as I gently spoke to her, allowing me a little pat whilst Mark talked to Darian ( DR Volunteer ) and patted Champ,. We assured and promised Champ that if he’d let us, we’d always be there for him, look after and love both of them (probably too much). We had experience with high anxiety shut down dogs so we knew it would be a journey and to give them room to breathe, relax and just watch us.

24 JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE 6. Going home with them, there were emotional goodbyes at DoggieRescue. It was a long day on all of us, not getting home to the Hunter Valley until almost 7pm and that first night we all slept in the loungeroom together. The next day we showed them the doggie door and they had that down pat pretty quickly. Both seemed to be happy with their new big backyard. We’ve had some hiccups, things chewed and ripped apart, but generally they have settled in really well and within 2 weeks Xanthe had barked at me (lightly) to tell me hurry up in getting their dinners. I didn’t catch the initial dressing down but did get the subsequent bark when I asked if she was getting bossy:) Both Champ and Xanthe have learnt that we always put them first, that we always have their backs and that we love them! They’re important, they matter and are beautiful little buggars. To see their tails wagging is just beautiful and their personalities are shining through. Sometimes a little too much as they know they have the run of the house but we wouldn’t have it any other way. When they snuggle in for cuddles it’s just bliss, it truly is because it shows we’re doing okay by them. Champ snores like a champ and Xanthe likes to stand on me in the morning when she comes zooming into our bed, nose boops me whilst standing on me then snuggles at my shoulder whilst Champ lays against my side. We do need to work on the whole ‘sit’ thing though, they just look at us like really?! Yeah nah, carry on cause we are!!! Xanthe loves her comfy jumper...

JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE 25 Your local mortgage & finance broker We are proud to sponsor Monika’s DoggieRescue. Talk to us now on 0478 417 425 or [email protected] Xanthe only happens with her car harness on because she can’t slip out of that one. They have an array of jumpers and some shirts, Champ especially loves having his clothes on whereas Xanthe can take it ,or leave it. We can’t wait to try camping with them next year as it starts to cool down where Champ will no doubt have more on than Xanthe ( he feels the cold more) Darian (who was their walker at Monikas) has visited three times now including staying overnight babysitting as I didn’t trust anyone else and the kids just LOVED that. The visits especially reassured Champ that not everyone just disappears from his life, that some of us really do stick around and to see the pep in his step now is just beautiful. “ Geng comfy…” “Adopt, don’t shop, make a beauflful difference to a dogs life.” Max & Mark Xanthe (above) & Champ (below) are se*led & happy...

28 J 28 ANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E- MAGAZINE Featured are just a few of the much loved dogs lost in 2025. Bubba, Henry, Florence, Fleur, Haurace, Dougie, Smudge, Bear, Baxter, Alfie and Danny. Remembered always... Dear Monika, Today we lost Baxter to a neurological condition that led to loss of swallowing, loss of vision & inability to stand - we will spend lots of time with Bobbi ( wasBambi ) as we help her adjust to such a big change. The attached photo was taken on 01\/10 when he Bobbi & Baxter appeared quite well .Kind regards Cheryl “ My dog Alfie (formerly known as Yuki) has passed away at the age of 16, and my heart is broken. The house seems impossibly empty, and I find myself overwhelmed not just by grief but by an immense gra&tude for having had him and his uncondi&onal love in my life. When asked if I would write something about how Alfie changed my life, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to share how profoundly a &mid li)le rescue dog transformed my world.” Brian Alfie

JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E- MAGAZINE 29 Dear Monika, At the end of November, 2025 I lost my best mate Danny…Over a couple of weeks, he started suffering seizures, which the vet suspected were caused by a brain tumour. Medication didn't help, and he worsened considerably every day with seizures, his back legs becoming increasingly weak. Sadly, after a terrible night, I made the decision to put him to sleep. While I write this with tears streaming down my face, I know that he had four months with me that were full of love and happiness (and his new favourite thing - croissants!). I can't thank you and your team enough for giving me the privilege of having Danny in my life and for allowing me to love him and share adventures with him. I’ve attached a selection of photos from our time together. When I can face it, I'll be back walking dogs on a Saturday. Thanks, Steven JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E- MAGAZINE 25 In loving memory of Danny, who was so special! RIP sweet “Danny” 12 years 2013 – 2025

30 JA 30 JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE NUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE As we start a brand new year I want you all to meet Barbara who has been sponsoring dogs since 2009 and is our celebrated.... SPONSOR IN FOCUS! My daughter was sponsoring doggies from Monikas in 2009 and suggested I do the same. I was living overseas and not in a position to adopt but I could certainly sponsor. She sent me a copy of the magazine and said ‘Mum, pick one’ - how do you pick just one? As it turned out it wasn’t difficult as an old guy called Gobbledock leapt off the page and I fell in love with him and was hooked on sponsorship. Dear old Gobbledock found his forever home so I continued on my journey. Lovely Corinne always knows the ones I will fall for. One beautiful girl called Willow stands out and I was lucky to meet her out at Ingleside. I sponsored Willow for 3 years and then, just before Christmas in 2018, she found her forever home and then along came Cleo ( pictured at right ). When Corinne asked me to write a few words for the magazine, she had just given me an absolutely beautiful old boy called Buddy who had been rescued from Blacktown Pound. Heartbreakingly, Buddy passed away before he found his home but in the 4 short weeks he was a member of Monika’s family, he knew what it was like to be loved. “ Since I started sponsoring there have now been 36 dogs, big and small, and usually with some quirky feature that somefimes makes them a li le more difficult to home. “ Barbara Gobbleduck was my first sponsor doggie and I found an old, faded photo that I kept of him. Buddy was a special boy

I sponsored her for 3 years and she will always have a special place in my heart!” Dezzy likes to help around the kennels! Dezzy ( above ) was another sponsor dog of mine. He has been adopted a few times, but he has not settled and still remains at Doggie Rescue Shelter which I am sure he thinks of as home. Dezzy is 14 years old now. Another one of my sponsored doggies was EZRA seen here on adop'on day April 2020 In Buddy’s honour, Monika rescued Jess ( who I sponsor now ) from the same pound so I have everything crossed that this story is a good luck charm for her and that she is noticed and loved. So many of the dogs and cats have had a shockingly sad life and it takes a great deal of courage, determina'on and love to adopt. I’m eternally grateful to all those people who have adopted the dogs that I could only sponsor.

32 JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE INTERVIEW WITH “ TESSA HOLLIS ” With the help of mum Janelle When I heard I was to star in DoggieRescue magazine I thought: that’s very nice, but don’t expect any co-operation with the photos! If I wasn’t me I’d like to be: Mum’s shadow. That way she can’t go anywhere without me. My greatest achievement is: making sure Mum loved and adored me so much she couldn’t live without me. My happiest moments are: going for drives in the car, snoozing in the sun, having a good back roll on the grass (particularly if it’s wet), snuggling up on the lounge next to Dad and snuggling up to Mum in bed. My tails wags most when: I wake up in the morning and realise where I am. I bounce all over the bed and love to pin Mum down so she can’t get up. It took a while but finally my human let me: sleep “ Who’s a pre,y girl then?” with her in our own bed.

JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE 33 ADOPTED & LOVING LIFE! Food that makes me drool is: Dad’s junk food: Meat pies, Hungry Jacks burgers and chips. And frankfurts! My nickname is: Little Black Panther, Princess I must tell you : I can be a bit of a smoocher when the mood takes me. Surprise kisses are my speciality. I oen wonder: what else can I achieve now my paws are well and truly under the table, and; why my brother and sisters can’t go and live somewhere else so I can have Mum and Dad and the house all to myself… You should adopt a rescue dog because: your life will be filled with love and joy. We are wonderful company and deserve to be loved and spoilt (just like me). I am so excited when: Mum picks up my leads and I know we’re going out for a drive and a walk. If I impersonated a famous star I’d be: Hedy Lamarr: Beautiful, intelligent, aloof, a bit of a drama queen and quite quirky. Training my humans has been fun because: although it took a bit of time, I think I now have everything I want and I got lots of treats in the process. My favourite place in the world is: snuggled up next to Mum in bed. Everyone looks at me and says: Isn’t she beautiful!! What breed is she? My New Year resolu#on is: more of the same! On New Years Day I will : keep my paws crossed that 2026 is as good as 2025!

34 JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E- MAGAZINE By Antonette DiorioCAT ADOPTION OFFICER Antonette has her Certificate II in Animal Care and Certificate III in Captive Animals. FEATURE ARTICLE: The New Year's Resoluons of Cat Owners and Cats: A Hilarious Guide As the clock strikes midnight and you welcome a New Year with enthusiasm and gli!er, there's one group of beings in your household who couldn’t care less about resoluons. That’s right: your cats. However, if they did make resolutions, they'd probably involve knocking things off shelves and perfecting their nap game. As for you, the long-suffering cat owner, your resolutions may involve trying to train a creature whose only mission in life is to ignore you with extreme prejudice. Here are some New Year's resolutions for both you and your feline master\/mistress. New Year's Resoluons for Cat Owners: 1:) Resolve to Stop Yelling at the Cat. “I will stop shouting ‘Why are you doing that?’ when my cat knocks my coffee mug off the counter, because deep down, I know she’s doing it on purpose. It’s not a mistake, it’s a lifestyle.” 2:) Be More Patient During Bedtime. “I will no longer engage in a 30-minute battle of wills over where my cat sleeps. I will let her curl up on my pillow and learn to sleep with a tail in my face.” 3:) Master the Art of the ‘Cat Whisperer.’ “I will learn to communicate better with my cat, but realistically, it will still involve a lot of ‘Are you hungry?’ and ‘Stop clawing that.’” 4:) Stop Taking Photos of the Cat. “I will put my phone down and stop trying to capture the perfect shot of my cat staring out the window like some sort of majestic lion, only to have her ruin it by blinking at the exact wrong moment.” 5:) Offer More Variety in the Treats. “I resolve to keep a better stock of high-quality treats that my cat will immediately turn her nose up at because she prefers the ones I’m eating. 6:) Attend to the Litter Box Regularly. “I will no longer wait until the litter box resembles a toxic waste dump before cleaning it. The cat deserves better... although she won't tell me that because she’s too busy plotting world domination.”

JANUARY 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM E-MAGAZINE 35 New Year's Resoluons for Cats 1:) Don’t Knock Over That Glass. “This year, I will not immediately knock over every glass of water, coffee, or wine on any flat surface. I will wait until my human is looking and then do it in a way that makes them question their life choices.” 2:) Stop Using My Human as a Jungle Gym. “I resolve to stop climbing onto my human's face at 4 AM and walking across their chest like a tiny, furry mountain goat. However, if they leave their laptop open, I am still entitled to lay across that.” 3: Give the “Lap of Luxury” a Break.“I will, for once, sit on the couch and not demand my human’s lap all the time. But when they’re working, or in the bathroom, I’ll make sure I’m conveniently blocking the entrance.” 4:) Be Less Picky About Food. “I will stop turning my nose up at food that is perfectly fine and maybe eat something other than the salmon pâté if it means my human will not guilt-binge on chocolates which she won’t give me anyway.” 5:) Not Actively Try to Kill the Vacuum Cleaner. “This year, I will try not to attack the vacuum cleaner every time it comes out, though I can’t promise I won’t look at it like it’s a mortal enemywho must be vanquished.” 6:) Stop Pretending the Litter Box Is a Playground.“I will stop using the litter box as my personal sandbox. If the box is clean, I won’t dig around like I’m searching for buried treasure... just to fling it out and scatter it around the floor.” 7:) Take More Naps... But Not on the Computer Keyboard. “I resolve to take more naps, but I will try to be a bit more creative and stop using my human’s laptop as a perfect pillow to sprawl across.” So there you have it: the New Year's resolutions that every cat and cat owner should consider, even if they’re both too busy with more important things (like sleeping, in the case of your cat). Whether you succeed or fail at these goals, just remember—your cat doesn't care. She's too busy ignoring you, as usual. Happy 2026 everyone! From Antoneffe and her cats Tsar and Nik.
