Next red list? and kittens will lose their lives.

I am sad to say that we have many cats previously
promoted this magazine and on facebook who have
been euthanized, including our sweet cover girl of last
month Scorsese. It is very disheartening, but not only
that, it makes you feel that no matter how hard we try
we just cannot keep up with the volume of dumped cats.

What is a red list? The pound issues what is called a
red list and if not adopted/fostered or given a reprise
the cats with the impounding numbers on that list are
PTS (euthanized) on the given date. These are all cats
way over their due date which for most is just 7 DAYS.
Due to the large volume of cats and kittens dumped the
pound simply cannot keep them until they all find their
forever homes so we are asking for your help!

It was a cold, wet day at Blacktown Pound. In the cattery the spirits of the volunteers, some from
Rescue Cat Project, were low—too many cats and kittens, not many adoptions. It is hard to
volunteer when you know that some of the animals you care for will be euthanized. It is not the
pound’s fault for the volume of dumped cats, kittens, mother cats with baby kittens is never ending.
But on this day even though it was raining, the sun shone because armed with her carrier & boxes
Michelle arrived to rescue as many as she was able to. The picture at left is her leaving Blacktown
Pound (not all the cats rescued are in the picture ). This is only possible due to the commitment
from veterinary surgeries who care for these cats until they are adopted. THANK YOU!

In April this year 3 little orphans were brought into THE COTTAGE ANIMAL HOSPITAL. This is a
diary of their survival and growth. It is also a story of love and hope….
27/4 : 3 tiny baby girls - brought into us in a cardboard box -

no Mummy - we estimate as only 2 days old. One still
has her umbilical cord attached. We will do our best to
raise these babies but they have a tough road ahead...

29/4: Pepa Pig is doing her best to be a
‘Mummy’. Kittens are 4 days old.

JUNE 2015 RESCUECATS E- MAGAZINE 13

3/5 : Raising orphan kittens is
a big job - they need
feeding every few
hours, toileting,
temperature control and
of course love - here
are two of our
wonderful nursing staff,
Courtney and Crystal,
toileting the orphans
after a feed. They are
now 8 days old- this
photo was taken when
they were 2 days old

4/5 : 8 days old - the three babies are so far doing
well & because they arrived just after ANZAC

❤weekend they have been named Poppy,

Biscuit & Dawn

5/5 : Eyes are open—day 9

12/5 :18 days old and so far so good! These little
babies are a part of Monika's Doggie Rescue
cat rescue program. Found at 2 days old they
had little hope.

The kittens are thriving on a cat
milk replacement called Biolac
and have started to walk around
and explore in between drinking
warm milk and taking looooong
naps….. They are so precious.
