He was a gentle, affectionate little soul. Pickles absolutely loved his wet food & milk . Between naps, he enjoyed a little playtime and lots of cuddles with the vet nurses who cared for him. Sadly, Pickles was born with a severe congenital condition called atresia ani, which meant he was unable to pass faeces. Despite careful assessment and lots of love and support from the veterinary team, this condition was too serious to overcome, and thekindest decision was made to let him go peacefully.Although his time with us was far too short, Pickles was surrounded by warmth, gentle hands. 12 AP 14 RIL 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM CATS E- MAGAZINE In Italy, Easter is deeply rooted in Catholic tradition, and although cats are not central symbols, they are often present in rural folklore surrounding Holy Week. In some regions, it was once believed that a cat sneezing on Easter morning brought good luck for the year ahead. Black cats, historically tied to superstition, were sometimes kept indoors during Holy Week to “protect” them from lingering medieval myths. In parts of Spain, where elaborate Semana Santa (Holy Week) processions take place, cats have long been seen as quiet observers of the festivities. Folklore in certain villages once suggested that feeding stray cats during Easter would bring blessings and prosperity, blending Christian charity with older pagan respect for animals. In Poland, Easter Monday (Śmigus-Dyngus) is known for playful water splashing. While cats are not part of the official celebration, animal welfare groups often use the season to promote kindness to pets, reminding families that festive excitement should be managed so as not to distress household animals. In Greece, where Easter is the most significant religious holiday of the year, white cats are sometimes seen as symbols of purity and renewal during spring celebrations. Island communities in particular embrace a culture of caring for free-roaming cats. FELINE FEATURE Easter is a very special me for cats, no maffier where they live... Cats and Easter Around the World While Easter is most commonly associated with lambs and bunnies, cats also have a quiet but fascinang place in springme tradions around the world. From folklore to faithbased customs to celebraons of cats, felines appear in surprising ways during the Easter season. APRIL 2026 DOGGIERESCUE.COM CATS E-MAGAZINE 23 WHAT MUSIC DO BUNNIES LIKE? Rabbits who listened to soft classical or new-age music appeared more relaxed. Surprisingly, they were even calmer than rabbits kept in complete silence! These music-loving buns showed fewer signs of stress, like thumping, hiding, or overgrooming. HOW DOES A RABBIT SAY HELLO? Did you know bunnies can make sounds? Some rabbits are very vocal! Honking is a way they communicate to let you know they are happyIS IT A FACT THAT RABBITS CAN GRIEVE? When one rabbit in a pair passes it's extremely important that the survivor is given the chance to be with the deceased body for a few hours. This may sound bizarre, even morbid, but leaving the deceased body gives the surviving rabbit the ability to say goodbye and absorb what has happened to their friend. WHAT ARE A RABBITS FAVOURITE VEGGIE? Rabbits mostly prefer leafy greens, with top favorites including romaine lettuce, cilantro, parsley, basil, and dandelion greens. Other favoured vegetables include celery, bok choy, and broccoli leaves, while carrots and root vegetables should only be given as occasional treats. As well as the veggies hay should make up 80-90% of a rabbit’s daily diet. Unlimited access to grass hay is vital for digestive health, prevents gut stasis, and wears down constantly growing teeth.
