“Where ever you go there'll be love”

BY TOVAH LEVITIS
DoggieRescue Volunteer

Those words couldn't be more perfect
for this beautiful boy. Goofy is my
current sponsor dog at Monika's
DoggieRescue, and his name fits
him perfectly!

Goofy didn't have a great start to life and
somehow found himself taken to the vet
to be euthanized at 5 months of age
because he had fractured one of his legs.
Thankfully Monika saved his young life
and arranged the surgery he needed
and he's now walking brilliantly and has
a full life ahead of him.

Goofy is a big softie with a loving happy
nature. He loves cuddles and affection
and leans into you for comfort. He walks
really well on the lead, will happily sit for
treats and loves a good roll around in the
grass. I love spending time with him and
am always sad to leave him - you can't
help but smile in his company and he
makes the best cuddling cushion.

swimmer. At the lovely McCarrs Creek Reserve, I took him
into the deeper water, expecting him to impress me with his

few leisurely strokes before heading back to the shallows.
He’s definitely more of a ‘soaker’ than a swimmer.

Adventures: I have been fortunate over the last few months
to take Atticus out for a little adventure on our Fridays. We
have explored McCarrs Creek reserve, Dee Why oval &

fabulous walk around Narrabeen Lake. I find him really easy
and enjoyable to take out, and I eagerly look forward to it.

Dog Reactivity: Atticus can be reactive to other dogs and
this is the reason that, as a precaution, he wears a muzzle
when out for a walk. I have found that he will pull towards
other dogs, but will also sometimes ignore them completely.

People Selective: Atticus can be people selective, and can
take time to trust. But I was a stranger to him, and he’s
learned to trust me.

AN INTERVIEWAN INTERVIEW
WITH APOLLOWITH APOLLO
WITH APOLLOWITH APOLLO

Happy Valentine’s Day Apollo!
What are your plans? I like to go for
a walk with my doggie friends and
the human volunteers. Maybe an
outing to the creek or the beach. I
love to bush walk and to smell every-
thing there is to smell. The water
brings out my goofy side and I
bounce around everywhere!

What presents would you like for
Valentines Day? I’d like just one
present—a family! I need to have
my humans around so I’d like my
human to work from home as I can
get a bit anxious when left alone.
Everyone I love leaves me, so you
understand.

What would your dream Valentine’s Day be? I'd wake up, have
a big stretch. Then I'd eat some breakfast. Then I'd wander
around, possibly wee on some stuff (I hope you're not writing
that down!). Then I'd go for a walk, maybe meet some new
people. Then I'd like some cuddles and maybe a snack. Then I
would take a nap, maybe have a play? What kind of toys do we
have? Then I'd have another walk, then dinner and bed! If
there's time another nap would be nice.

What’s your ideal first date? Initially I’m shy and a little unsure
and need reassurance so on a first date you would need to be
patient. I really like people - cuddles, affection and belly rubs I
just need to spend some time with you first so I can relax. When
I know you I'll cuddle in your lap! I’m like butter baby—I melt!

If you could tell Monika one thing what would it be? Monika
I love YOU! From the bottom of my huge Staffy heart and every
other dog who has passed through this shelter THANK YOU!
We don't always make it easy on you but we appreciate every-
thing you do and will always be proud to be Monika's Dogs.

LOVE IS HAVING
A LITTLE SISTER

By Snoop Dawg Heydon

There is more than a decade between me and my little sister. We are the
best of friends and inseparable. My pawrents call me the sensible older
brother but sometimes I'm just a goofball too. I wasn't so sure when my
pawrents said I was getting a sibling as I was an only child for many years. I
didn't think I'd like to share my toys or snacks. When she did arrive, my
fears disappeared, she couldn't play with toys or eat so I was a lot happier,
but she did cry a lot and we all didn't get much sleep.

As the months went by, her sleep
got better and my little sis started
to notice me. She thought I was very
funny when I would lie on my back,
legs in the air and snore, or chase
birds in the garden. She would giggle
hysterically when I would lick her
toes. She was also very generous with
her food, throwing many titbits and
snacks on the floor for me to eat.

To Monika,

You did not care how we looked,

You showed us that we are not disposable
and that we can be loved!
You brought back the sparkle in our eyes

You restored our spirit
