Have you read those touching poems, those

It reminds us of the real meaning of Christmas. If

It is often said that volunteering is at the very core of being a human and that
no one has made it through life without someone else’s help. To see this in
action, this month we meet Caroline, from Clip and Cuddles Dog Grooming,
a volunteer who donates not only her time but also her love. For almost twenty
years now, Caroline has volunteered at DoggieRescue, doing a vital job.
Imagine dogs arriving at DR having been rescued by Monika, a mere few

neglected state, often ready to attack. Caroline is, in most instances, the first

A couple of things about me...I love dress ups and
have been dressed as a Christmas Angel and
Yoda ( I looked so cute and got a lot of cheers from
everyone!). I also love the beach and even at 17
years of age I still have a little run just not as far as
I used to! I love to dig in the sand and chase sol-

Merry
Christmas!
This year I had the pleasure of writing about a different dog almost
every month to show you who caught my attention and made me smile.
Jarrah and I celebrated the New Year with silly hats (above) but he is
facing another New Years Eve without someone to smooch at mid-
night. He is such a smart boy, he loves his enrichment toys and works
them out so quickly! Jarrah doesn’t enjoy the shelter life, he is stressed
and needs a home. When he’s away from the shelter he is a different
boy - he loves his people with his whole heart. I hope 2023 is the year
this boy finds his home.

Finally in October I met Thomas, his sweet face
remains a favourite of mine. Thomas isn’t a confident
boy, he needs a handler who will love him and be patient
with him. He has recovered well from his multiple
surgeries and is now looking to start the new year in a

My time at DoggieRescue has taught me so much about dogs,
I’ve learnt to read their body language to watch for signs they
are stressed and how to respond to them. I’ve loved learning so
much from Monika and the kennel hands at the shelter.
Funnily enough the most important lessons Monika has taught
me over the years are about people. To watch what they say
when they’re not saying much, to trust how the animals respond
to a person. If a dog doesn’t like a person, the dog is usually
right.

Nat Burns – DoggieRescue Volunteer ( above )
How nice is it when you arrive home after a day at work and your
pets are happy and excited to see you? That's the reaction you
get from Khaleesi every single time she sees you. Her little happy
face watches expectantly at the fence if you walk by, waiting for
you to come in her direction. Tail wagging at a thousand wags
per second, hopping from one paw to the other impatiently. Then
when it's finally her turn, you need to prepare for all of staffy love
and licks you can imagine. She has so much love to give - in
exchange for hugs and treats of course. Khaleesi is super smart
too, she knows exactly the same spot to stop, sit and ask for a
treat when we're out walking - just because we stopped there
once, now she knows it every time as 'the treat place'!
“If I could have one Christmas wish for Khaleesi it is that
