LOVE

IS…

ADOPTING A LESS
ADOPTABLE KITTY!

When adopters are choosing a new
pet most look for the prettiest cat or
kitten, it is only natural. At Doggie
Rescue we have many pretty homeless
kitties and given time they will all find
wonderful homes. If you need a new
furkid in your family we may just have
the purrfect kitty for you but…. have you
ever thought of adopting a cat just
because they need you?

Meet Prince Harry, a handsome ginger
and white male who sadly has never
had an adoption appointment. When
rescued from Death Row he was very
thin and dirty with eyes gummed
together and seemed blind. Prince
Harry was rescued under a duty of care
and is a ‘special needs’ cat .

Readers of this magazine will be
very familiar with Levi & Logan,
recognising their names and faces
but perhaps not really knowing
their full story…..

Levi (black/white female) & Logan
(ginger/white male) were born in a
pound and ended up on death row
with their siblings at a very young
age. They were lucky enough to be
rescued and taken to The Cottage
Animal Hospital for care.

When old enough to be vaccinated
they both tested positive to Feline
Immune Deficiency. This means
they need a nutritiously balanced diet
and check ups from the vet and their
vaccinations kept up to date. Really,
the same as any other cat but due to
the stigma attached to FIV it also
meant they were less adoptable.

The top photos were taken when
Levi & Logan were about 12 weeks
old and waiting for adoption in May
2016. Forward to February 2018
(lower photo) and they are still
waiting. It is so very sad.

Levi & Logan are very popular kitties who have http://www.fivcats.com/1000_fiv_cats_project/

It’s in their eyes,

by Tovah Levitas
that magic resides!

https://www.facebook.com/Artbytovahlevitas
I've been volunteering on and off with DoggieRescue
for the last 5 years, dog walking, feeding, and
fundraising, and always trying to think of other ways
that I could help give back to the rescue that saved
my own sweet pup Lola. Well it turned out that Lola
was a doggie supermodel and was the perfect muse and
inspiration for me to finally learn how to use a 'proper'
camera and brush up on my photography skills! So
when the shelter contacted me in April last year to ask
if I could assist by taking photos for the monthly
magazine I was over the moon! When I found out that it
was for the cat magazine, rather than the dog magazine,
I have to admit that the nerves set in! I knew just how
hard cats can be to photograph if they're not in the mood,
having three of my own at home! But I was determined
to give it a go, and I'm so glad that I did.
I've got to meet the sweetest little faces, and
funniest characters over the last 9 months,
and seeing some of them leave for their own
homes has been wonderful. Every time I
leave I tell them I love them but I hope that I
don't see them again next time I come! It's
always a challenge getting a good cover for
the magazine as you will all know that if a cat
doesn't want to do something - then it just
won't! And if it doesn't want to look at you
then tough! But seeing some of the more
timid and reserved cats gradually come out
of their shell and warm to me a bit more
every time I visit is so heart warming.

Unfortunately there are just so many cats
and kittens looking for homes through no
fault of their own, so having a good photo
that will attract people to look at their profile
is so important - so it's my job to make sure
that we can get at least a few photos to
show them off and hopefully catch
Sponsor Sesame: “ Happy Valentine’s Day!” Love from Tovah & Lola someone's eye.

FEBRUARY 2019 DOGGIERESCUE.COM CATS E- MAGAZINE 7

Last week I photographed a few of the more timid
cats as although they'd been at the shelter for a
while, they hadn't really had any adoption interest
as they typically hide in their beds and shy away
from new people.

Ted is about 5 years old and a very gentle boy with
beautiful eyes. He was fairly comfortable in front of
the camera after some cuddles and a few treats!
Cloud ( p6 ) is a tiny pretty little playful girl of
around 2 years of age - she is really starting to come
out of her shell after recovering from a bad case of cat
flu which resulted in her losing all of her litter. She's
great with other cats too - a real sweetie!

Brulee is petite little girl who is ready to live

her own life after raising a litter at only a year
of age. She is a feisty little monkey and I
needed the help of a cat cuddler to hold her while
I got a few photos as she is a lady who knows
what she wants - and that was not sitting and
posing for me!

Grayson, a very special boy. He is an
absolutely stunning cat who is a dream to
photograph - those eyes! He is so affectionate
and sweet and would be happy to have head
scratches and chin rubs all day long. He even
manages to pull off a nappy with style!

Sponsor Brulee: “ Sending you lots
of love!” Lesley Cansdell & Titch the cat!

Grayson will need a very special home with very
special people who would be willing to help him
manage his incontinence and keep him clean and
healthy. He would repay you with love, thank yous and
head butts.

And what a smoocher of a sweet boy Sesame is!
He always comes to greet me when I enter his
enclosure, with his head held high for chin scratches
and head rubs! Sesame is so easy to handle, happy
to be held (and kissed!) - he loves company.

“ I'm looking forward to meeting lots more
characters at the shelter, and hopefully saying
goodbye to just as many, as they find their people
and start the next stages of their lives in forever
homes.” Tovah Sponsor Grayson: “ In loving memory of
Joey & Rosie!” Pat Broderick

Sadly the problem stems from a supply and demand market. There is a massive over supply of cats and kittens
and just not enough homes for them all, so they are treated like garbage that can be thrown away without thought.
PLEASE, desex your cat, it’s the responsible thing EVERY cat owner should do!
