FROM MY DESK LIFE INSTEAD OF DEATH — A NO KILLSHELTER

By Monika Biernacki OAM Hello Readers,

Serene Morgan introduces our cat section this month
Pie gives which is packed with cute antics of the cats. Missy who is
Monika some forever dieting is working hard on the puzzle to get her
love... treats. Who said a mature cat cannot learn new tricks?
Antonette has written a helpful article on what to do if your
cat goes missing, something I think most of us would
have experienced. We also have a lovely postcard from
Kenny Bubbles who most of you would remember as
Silver the gentle, pretty Burmilla boy. He is enjoying the
sun on a balcony with cat netting. Life is good!

Miss Marie introduces our bunny section, a sweet bigger
bun who was lost on the streets until some kind person
found her. She has been waiting a long time for a family
to belong to. If you care for bunnies, check the points on
how you can help and if you are thinking of adding a
bunny to your family, we have more than a dozen to meet.

Don’t get the blues with all this winter rain. Bring some
wet weather gear and have some one-on-one time with a
furkid. There are always dogs here who do not mind the

A PERFECT TIME TO THROW AN EXTRA CAT ON THE BED…
As electricity prices rise people turn to more natural heating products. The low vibrating purr is restful, the
heat lasts all night long and the amazing thing is the longevity. With care, and lots of love, just one cat can
live for 20 years or more! And the size is portable—you can take anywhere! Really feel the cold? Adopt two!

What will I do? Part 1 in a 2-part Captive Animals.
How can I find Series
him?
The first few hours are critical to finding a lost cat – the
sooner you start to look, the more likely the cat is close
to home and the more likely you are to find her/him!

Even Indoor Only Cats can get lost if they escape the house,
but both Indoor Only and Outdoor Cats can get lost. This
can be a time of extreme anguish for a cat owner. The worry,
the not-knowing what’s happened, the not-knowing if you will
ever see your fur-baby again is heart-breaking.

If you can’t find your cat at mealtime, start the search. But
start earlier than mealtime if you know her/his habits well and
where s/he should be at a particular time if s/he is not there!

Firstly, you can make it easier for others to find
your cat for you if the cat is micro chipped,
registered with Pet Registry with your most-up-to-
date information, and wearing a collar with a tag
with their name and your details.

Statistics and views vary but there are four main
reasons why cats go missing:

• if they are not neutered, they get lost whilst
searching for a mate;
• they go missing when their environment changes
i.e. you move house, or they are adopted/
rescued and taken to a new home;
• when they are frightened e.g. if they are an
outdoor cat and chased away during a fight with/
by other cats etc; and lastly but least likely,
• they have decided to take up home elsewhere
or are stolen.

If a cat you’ve adopted from a rescue organization goes missing soon after

can provide advice, send out volunteers (and traps) to help you with your search
and provide emotional support. They will also send out web/social media alerts to
all their followers.

KENNY BUBBLES
( aka Silver) )

ADOPTED
16th January 2021

I am writing to let everyone know how my 6 year
old Burmilla Silver is doing. It has been over a year
since I adopted him. His name is now Kenny Bubbles
and he has settled in very well. He is a gorgeous and
gentle boy who always wants to be in the same room
as me. He loves visitors and charms them all. Not a
lap cat, but in winter he comes for a snuggle under
the blankets. I got him an automatic feeder so he gets
breakfast served up without having to wake me in the
mornings! He is much more calm these days and
enjoys sitting on the balcony and watching the birds
in the trees. He has been very healthy and his coat
has filled out a bit, and is soft and shiny. Thank you
to you and all the team at Monikas for looking after
all the animals in your care.

Regards, Michelle
