Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 51 Mirah’s Pages (continued) BIRD by Mirah Once upon a time, there was a princess and a bird. The princess went to the beach, and the bird was the best flyer. The king of the light hates birds, but the princess loves them. The Queen of the Light, who is the mother of the princess, had passed away, but little did she know that the queen had become the bird, ensuring the princess was safe and would not be cursed. “It’s so peaceful,” said the bird. They got onto the boat. The end.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 53 Nikolai’s Pages (continued) THE LIGHT by Nikolai PROLOGUE: On a dark and stormy night, a steamboat traveling from San Francisco to Victoria was flowing across the water. The captain was expecting to see a lighthouse on the shoreline, except that they were too far from it to see it, so when there was no light, suddenly, the ship crashed against rocks. The ship started to sink, and out of all 133 passengers, only 35 lived to tell the tale. CHAPTER 1: Bobby was a kind and generous person, but he was really short-tempered. He was so excited to finally go to Victoria. It had been his dream ever since kindergarten. Plus, he was only 10; he was going to use a steamboat with his family. He even made sure to pack his special pair of underwear. However, the weather was absolute garbage. But still good enough to go on the ride. They had already packed up everything; Bobby even got away with sneaking Tim, his goldfish, onboard the ship. CHAPTER 2: He found his room shortly after the ship started moving. Once night came around, Bobby went to sleep when suddenly there was a loud message from the captain saying that he was too far out to see the lighthouse and that they were going to take a detour. Bobby didn’t mind, but suddenly CRASH, the ship had crashed into the rocks on the shoreline, and the ship started to sink. Bobby tried to get to the lifeboats but failed and … died. But 35 people did and lived. THE END. BONUS CHAPTER FUNNY PART: 35 people lived and one FISH. Yep, Tim ended up rolling up to the deck and escaping the bowl and into the ocean, living happily for life. Scot-free, or should I say scot fins. THE END…AGAIN.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 55 RJ’s Pages (continued) THE RED LIGHTHOUSE by Rakeem There was a ship sailing across the sea. The red lighthouse was guiding the boat when all of a sudden, the lighthouse shut off and the boat was lost. The person driving the boat was a 31-yearold named Chris, along with his kids, Bob and Billy, and his wife, Saira. After a few hours, they found themselves in the middle of the sea. Then the lighthouse turned back on, but they were too far out to see it. It was 3 o’clock in the morning. They slept on the boat for the entire night, and the next morning, Bob and Billy ate breakfast. They had a TV and an Xbox, so they connected it to the TV and played Fortnite all day and all night, staying up again. The next morning, Chris and his wife, Saira, tried to get back to land. They tried and tried but just failed. Two weeks later, stormy weather hit. The boat was leaning from side to side, the waves were rough, and snowy weather made it even worse. Bob and Billy were in tears as the Xbox and the TV were thrown into the water, and then… a big wave knocked them off of the boat. Chris and Saira thought they were going to lose their kids, so they grabbed their kids. Luckily, the ship was still standing. They went back onto the boat. They were reported missing; police and helicopters were looking for them. Then, a few hours later, the most amazing thing happened: the police came and saved them after weeks at sea. The end.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 57 THE BOAT BY THE LIGHTHOUSE by Shae Shae’s Pages (continued) There was a boat by the lighthouse. The lighthouse had no owner, so the boys bought the lighthouse. The boys were Bob, Bob, and Bob. They went in, but the boys did not know that there was a zombie. The boys walked upstairs and a zombie said, “Hello, my name is Jack.” The boys said, “Hello?” The zombie said, “Hello, I am a distinguished gentleman. Would you like some tea and cookies, gentlemen?” The boys said, “Yes, please!” Bob, Bob, and Bob spent the afternoon drinking tea and munching on cookies while the zombie told them stories about the lighthouse. Later that day, the boys went outside to go for a ride in their boat, but the boat was nowhere to be seen. When they got closer to where the boat was tied, they noticed the tip of the sail poking out of the water. Jack said, “Is that the boat?” Bob said, “Yes, that’s the boat.” Jack asked, “So how do you ride it?” Bob replied, “We can’t!” Jack said, “I can do it because I can’t die twice.” So as Jack dove in, the boys cheered, and Jack did it. He went under the boat and pushed it to the surface of the water. They repaired the boat, and Bob, Bob, Bob, and Jack went on a boat ride. THE END.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 59 BEAUTIFUL SEA by Shamiah Shamiah’s Pages (continued) There was a man in a beautiful sea with 29 passengers on a stormy night. He was looking for the lighthouse but missed a turn, then he crashed into a big rock and everyone fell off the boat. A sea monster appeared, looking like the biggest octopus in the world. There were two lifeboats, but not everyone could fit, so the parents let their children take the spots. One dad and mom threw their children off, and then every parent died except for the kids. They didn’t know what to do but managed to make it to a sketchy island. Then a man walked by; he didn’t see them, and they discovered it was a spiritual land. Then they began to get hungry; they didn’t have anything to eat, and everyone on that land was dead so they didn’t have anything to eat. They saw a banana but didn’t know that the banana was poisonous, but only dead people could eat the banana, and then everyone died and they were never heard from again. TWO YEARS LATER There was a man who had two children, but the mom had died in the sea, and they lived alone in the middle of nowhere. Their house was haunted, but he didn’t realize that the house was haunted. He started noticing that things were moving by themselves, and his own kids saw a ghost for themselves. They cried all night, and their dad couldn’t get any sleep, so he got a doll for the girls, and the doll was haunted. The doll haunted him and his daughters for the rest of his life. Every time he tried to throw away the doll, he found it in his backyard. If he didn’t retrieve the doll, he would find it in his or his daughters’ room. The dad and daughters slept together, and they heard noises in the night. They saw the doll dancing to Cocomelon, and it turned out the house wasn’t haunted; his kids were just pranking him. THE END

A: (B and Lily go to the middle, show the best dance and the best outfit; they become the prom couple.) Elle yelled: “Yoooo yeees!” S said: “Oh, I’m SO sorry.” Lily said: “Okay, we forgive you.” A: (S never did anything bad or mean again.) A: (AFTER B is 30 and Lily is 29, they get married, and I have very happy news: S and Elle are the flower girls, and they both got married to each other.) Sure, here’s the continuation and completion: A: (AFTER B is 30 and Lily is 29, they get married and I have very happy news: S and Elle are the flower girls, and they both got married to each other.) A: (The wedding was beautiful, filled with laughter and joy. Everyone who once had disagreements came together to celebrate love and friendship. The lighthouse, once thought to be haunted, stood proudly in the distance, witnessing the bonds that had grown stronger over the years.) A: (As the sun set behind the ocean, casting a golden glow over the scene, Lily and B shared a moment of quiet reflection. They thought about their journey, from the haunted lighthouse field trip to this day of joy.) B: “Can you believe we started all this because I dropped my phone for you at that field trip?” Lily: “And to think, it all began with a ghost story and a mistaken drop. I’m so glad we turned that story into our fairytale.” B: “Me too. From screaming at ghosts to dancing at our wedding. It’s been quite the adventure with you.” A: (As the night carried on, laughter filled the air, and the dance floor was never empty. S: “You know, Lily, despite everything, you helped me find my way to Elle. For that, I’m forever grateful.” Lily: “And I’m glad everything turned out this way. Looks like all of us found where we truly belong.” A: (The party continued into the night, with the stars twinkling above and the gentle sound of the ocean waves providing a serene backdrop. The lighthouse’s light swept over the party intermittently, a steadfast guardian of their happiness.) A: (Years passed, and the group remained inseparable. They faced life’s challenges and joys together, always supported by the strength of their bonds. The haunted lighthouse, once a symbol of fear, became a beacon of love and friendship.) A: (And as they all grew older, they continued to return to the lighthouse to reminisce about the day that changed their lives forever—the day when a ghost story at a haunted lighthouse led to adventures, friendships, love, and ultimately, a series of happy endings.) A: (B and Lily, along with S and Elle, eventually took it upon themselves to care for the lighthouse, turning it into a symbol of their enduring friendship and love. They opened it to the public as a museum of their story, inspiring others with their tale of transformation from fear to love.) A: (And so, the lighthouse stood not only as a beacon over the ocean but as a testament to the power of friendship, understanding, and love. And they all lived happily ever after, with the lighthouse guiding not just ships, but hearts.) THE END. Varia’s Pages (continued) OCEAN’S NATURE WITH THE LIGHTHOUSE - cont.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 67 Exploring the Lighthouse A Big Thank-You And finally, but most of all, we want to thank Principal Tess Vally and teachers Lynelle Ridewood, Kevin Pearson, Zach Thompson and Mikayla Little, and in particular the students at École Poirier for making this project so enjoyable. We want to thank Tom Harris - Telus, for donating the cellphone cameras for the students to use. Without this support, the program would not have been possible. This project was carried out by the Society’s partners: Change Canada Consultants Ltd. Our thanks to them: Ian Fawcett (coordinator & photographer), Kathleen Arnason (author and story-teller) and Bill Turner (for helping develop and implement the program). This project was conducted in partnership with the National Trust for Land & Culture (BC), who provided technical assistance and equipment throughout the project. Our thanks also to SPLPS volunteers for helping at the site and with the setup of the program, and to the Society’s members and supporters who provided the financing for the program. Our thanks to the District of Sooke for providing a Community Grant to help finance the program.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 68 Exploring the Lighthouse Raising Funds to Protect the Lighthouse And finally, something a little different... Just like our heritage...don’t discard it, look again! Projects such as the protection and restoration of Sheringham Point Lighthouse depend upon the generosity of people who care about what we are trying to accomplish, and who want to help. Much of the funding for this project so far has been provided by individuals who have stepped forward to make a donation. However, in order to ensure that the Lighthouse can be well cared for in the future, and to enable us to continue providing educational opportunities at the Lighthouse - such as this program - we need to raise additional funds. Can you help? We have set up a fundraising page on the Society’s website to make it easy to donate (all donations over $10.00 will receive a charitable tax receipt). You can find it at: https://sheringhamlighthouse.ca/get-involved-2/make-a-donation/ THANK YOU! Anyone who takes photographs knows that things don’t always turn out as planned. A click at the wrong time, a shake of the camera or a wrong setting can produce something entirely unintended. Often, the results of these situations are simply discarded. But sometimes, with a bit of luck, and with a willingness to look again with a fresh eye and an open mind, the results can be startling. We’ve collected a number of the images created by the children during their visit to the lighthouse that didn’t quite turn out as intended, but that struck us as beautiful abstract images nontheless. We’ve called this collection “UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES”, and we hope they will inspire you to look again at our heritage treasures like Sheringham Point Lighthouse, and make a donation to help us ensure its conservation. Take a look at these few samples on the next page, we think you’ll be amazed!
