Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 51 Morgana’s Pages (continued) STORMY LIGHTHOUSE by Morgana Once there was a girl named Gana, a wolf, and an eagle. One stormy night, Gana went to the lighthouse. It was dark and Gana Could not see. Gana brought a flashlight so she could see. Gana went to the edge of a cliff. The wind pushed Gana off the cliff. “AHH,” Gana cried. Gana was hurt, but not that bad. Gana saw a gray wolf. “Get on my back” the wolf said. Gana went on the wolf’s back, then she remembered she forgot the keys!! Gana saw the keys at the top of the lighthouse, she climbed the stairs to the top of the lighthouse. Gana reached to the top of the lighthouse. It was very windy. Then the keys to a nearby house fell off the edge. Then an eagle came and picked up the keys. The eagle gave the keys to Gana. Gana started to walk to the nearby house. Then Gana’s flashlight ran out of battery and it was very dark. Gana could not see. Then she saw a light coming from the house. She was very close. She arrived at the house. She ate something, then she went to bed. Gana woke up the next day. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and the sunrise was beautiful. Gana walked to the car and her ride was there. Gana got driven home. When she got home, she petted her cats and relaxed for a while. Soon after, she went to bed. 3 AM, (next night) Gana’s alarm went off. She thought she had set it for 5 AM. Gana got up. She looked outside, she saw a tall black figure. Then it went away, Gana looked behind her, there was the same tall black figure. Gana was frightened then someone grabbed the figure from behind, the figure went away. Gana went back to bed. 5 AM. Gana woke up to the sunrise, daybreak was here! Gana jumped for joy.

He gets his coat on and goes to his friend Jamal’s boat to go to the Lighthouse. He gets to the boat dock, meets his friend at the boat and heads to the lighthouse. He’s almost there, but then huge waves come and nearly sink the boat. Then, the storm calms down and he gets to the dock. 5 feet away the old lighthouse stands, he goes in the light house and goes to the top. He hears a whisper but brushes it off. Then he feels something touch him on the arm. Then he hears a voice. at this point, he’s scared so he cleans the place up, and leaves the lighthouse. He closes the door and locks it. He gets on the boat and heads back home. By the time he gets back home, it’s 9PM so he goes to bed. THE END or is it?

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 55 THE WRONG LIGHTHOUSE by Owen Owen’s Pages (continued) It was a very stormy night with lightning all around me. I was on a boat and the water was crashing around me and BAM. I got struck by lightning and I survived and it smelled like something was burning. “AHHHH, I’m on fire.” Splash. “Ahh that feels better.” Ok let’s find this lighthouse. Ahhhhhhh there’s a bear chasing me. Ok I think I lost the bear. Yes, I found the lighthouse. Ok I messed up, this is the wrong lighthouse. I need to go back through the forest and through the forest that is bear territory and then to my boat. I was on my journey to the real lighthouse and then the bear was chasing me again, but it just wanted to give me my compass. I found the real lighthouse and that is the end.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 57 THE HAUNTED LIGHTHOUSE by Paityn Paityn’s Pages (continued) It was a dark and stormy night. John was driving to the lighthouse. Everybody was going really slow on the road. Two hours had passed and he was still on the road. He was late and it was only his first day. Another two hours had passed and he was finally there. He saw Mr. and Ms. Davidson standing on the driveway looking very disappointed. He got out of his truck and started walking towards them. Mr. Davidson told him what to do and handed him the keys to the lighthouse. John opened the door and went inside. He then turned around and waved goodbye to Mr. and Ms. Davidson, but they were gone already. He just turned around and went back into the lighthouse. He went up the stairs and saw the light. Mr. Davidson just told him to turn the light on, so he did. When he turned the light on, he heard footsteps coming from behind him. But when he turned around there was no one there and the footsteps had stopped. He thought nothing of it and thought he was hearing things. He went back downstairs to the kitchen. Mr. Davidson had told him that there was some leftover pasta in the fridge that he could just warm up in the microwave. So he looked inside the fridge and took out the pasta. It was spaghetti and meatballs, with melted parmesan on top of it. He put it in the microwave for thirty seconds and he thought about his family. He missed them. He had two children, Timmy and Liz. Liz was fifteen years old. She had straight black hair and blue eyes. And then Timmy was one, almost two. He has curly black hair and blue eyes. Then there was his wife, Sarah. She was thirty-five. She has straight blonde hair and blue eyes. He loved them all so much. He then heard the beep, beep, beep sound of the microwave. He opened the microwave and took out the spaghetti. He heard the footsteps again, coming from upstairs. “Is anyone up there?” he would ask. He would get no response. “I have a bat so if you’re up there you better get down.” The footsteps would get louder and louder. He went up the stairs and when he got up, he saw a lady jumping out of the window. He stood there with cont...

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 58 Paityn’s Pages (continued) THE HAUNTED LIGHTHOUSE (cont.) a horrified look on his face. He couldn’t move. He just stood there watching the window. This was the first time in his life he’s been truly scared. He finally got himself to move. He ran to the window looking for the mysterious lady. All he saw was the trees blowing in the wind and the rain dropping onto the ground with a plop. He just turned around and ran downstairs. He ran past the spaghetti and ran straight into his bed. He finally fell asleep two hours after the incident. He was dreaming about his son’s birthday. The laughter. Him with his son. It seemed so real! But everything started to get quiet and his family soon disappeared into a mysterious fog. All the laughter was gone. No sound except his heavy breathing. “What’s going on?!” he said in a panicked voice. “Where’s my children and wife? Where am I?!” No response. “I know someone’s with me! So uhm, show yourself!” He would hear the same footsteps again but coming from all around him. It seemed like they were going in circles. The footsteps got louder. It was running now.” I said show yourself!” he said. “Fine,” it responded in a very deep raspy voice. It was the lady again. She was crawling towards John. He saw that she had long black hair that looked like a rats nest. She also had sharp claws on her hands. But she also had only three long fingers. He wanted to see her face but it was all covered up with her hair. “Can I see your face?” he asked. A minute had passed and the lady was almost next to him. He backed up trying not to look weak and scared but that was harder than he thought. “I WILL NOT SHOW MY FACE,” it finally said in its deep raspy voice again. It then crawled faster and pounced on John. “Get off!” He said weakly. It grabbed his arms and he realized it had six arms. He tried getting it off of him but the lady was too strong. “I WILL EAT YOU.” It bit him in his arm, and he passed out. Sarah answered the door in surprise to see a policeman standing outside of the door. “Did you find him?” she would ask. “I’m so sorry for your loss. Your husband has been missing for a month as you should know. We found him but it was too late as his arms, legs, and head were missing. Again I am very sorry for your loss.” The officer turned around and went back to his car. She slammed the door shut and went to her room. She cried herself to sleep that night and the next morning she told her children the news. THE END.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 61 Scarlet’s Pages (continued) SHERINGHAM LIGHTHOUSE INSPIRED STORY by Scarlet Once upon a time there was a family that went camping. The two children, Sally and Mia, decided to go and see the lighthouse, but what they did not know is that there was a huge storm coming. So, they started looking for the way home but they could not find where they came from. They decided to stay the night at the lighthouse. The next morning, when they woke up the storm was gone. Since the day was off to a good start, they went to explore. When they were done exploring they went to catch some breakfast. After that they wanted to explore a little more and what they found was so amazing and weird. It was some sort of creature. After they found the creature, they started finding more mysterious creatures. By night, there were thousands of them. So Sally and Mia weir scared, but Sally had to make sure it was safe for Mia, so she went out. At first Sally thought they could see her, but they were actually blind. They had razor sharp teeth, very sharp claws, and ferocious eyes. Sally went to catch some dinner and the next morning they started looking again for their parents. They felt that they would never find their family but, just then they heard voices they thought sounded like their parents. They were so happy. They ran and hugged their parents and they learned to never run off again.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 63 Wesley’s Pages (continued) THE SECRETS OF THE LIGHTHOUSE by Wesley It was a dark misty day at Sheringham point lighthouse. Jace was a very interesting boy, he always really loved lore and always thought everything was a mystery, which in this case it was. His brother went on this trip, and he never really spoke of the time he went, but he said some freaky things happened when he went there. Anyway, let me introduce you to the characters in this story Jace was the boy who loved lore and mysteries. Joshery, he’s friends and hangs out with Jace. Then there’s the lighthouse keeper, nobody knows anything about him. Joshery and Jace were on the bus ride there and one freaky thing they saw was four gates leading to the lighthouse!? They were a bit scared of that, but it made it worse when they saw a gravestone while riding to the lighthouse. When they made it to the lighthouse they were split up, so they couldn’t do much to help figure out what’s happening. Then they had a snack, and they couldn’t explore until the snack was done. But when it was done they saw something in the water and they saw things every where. They saw a pipe leading to nowhere, and a trap door on the ceiling of the lighthouse. Some figure appeared and left, and when Jace saw Joshery, they both thought they were being haunted by the lighthouse keeper. Jace said, “it all makes sense now, the lighthouse keeper is trying to keep us out of the lighthouse to stop us from knowing too much and telling the world.” Just as they said that they got snatched up the trap door in the lighthouse within a single second! It all goes black. They hear a quiet whisper that said “you know too much,” in pitch black darkness. Jace and Joshery both were scared and worried. Then the lights flickered on, blinding the two boys. Then they see a shadow like figure with a long creepy smile, with kids yelling ”Jace!” and “Joshery!” They all of a sudden get up and start running but it seems that the hallway goes on for forever. They hear another whisper that says “you’re trapped here, and the only way to get out is to give me what I lost seven years ago Jace.” “What?” said Jace. “My life,” said the figure. “Your parents locked me up and stole everything, and locked me up in this lighthouse. Your necklace is the key to let me free.” Jace thought about it for awhile, and at the end gave the necklace to the figure. And then it felt like he went back in time to when they were fine and they left back into the bus and left. He said to Joshery it felt like a dream and he left like nothing ever happened.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 65 Exploring the Lighthouse A Big Thank-You And finally, but most of all, we want to thank Principal Krista Leakey and Teachers Rebecca Moore, Marion Stupich, Danielle Duvauchelle, Leanne Gates and Tesla Mayenburg, and in particular the students at Sooke Elementary for making this project so enjoyable. We want to thank Tom Harris - Telus, for donating the cellphone cameras for the students to use. Without this support, the program would not have been possible. This project was carried out by the Society’s partners: Change Canada Consultants Ltd. Our thanks to them: Ian Fawcett (coordinator & photographer), Kathleen Arnason (author and story-teller) and Bill Turner (for helping develop and implement the program). This project was conducted in partnership with the National Trust for Land & Culture (BC), who provided technical assistance and equipment throughout the project. Our thanks also to SPLPS volunteers for helping at the site and with the setup of the program, and to the Society’s members and supporters who provided the financing for the program. Our thanks to the District of Sooke for providing a Community Grant to help finance the program.

Sheringham Point Lighthouse Preservation Society Page 66 Exploring the Lighthouse Raising Funds to Protect the Lighthouse And finally, something a little different... Just like our heritage...don’t discard it, look again! Projects such as the protection and restoration of Sheringham Point Lighthouse depend upon the generosity of people who care about what we are trying to accomplish, and who want to help. Much of the funding for this project so far has been provided by individuals who have stepped forward to make a donation. However, in order to ensure that the Lighthouse can be well cared for in the future, and to enable us to continue providing educational opportunities at the Lighthouse - such as this program - we need to raise additional funds. Can you help? We have set up a fundraising page on the Society’s website to make it easy to donate (all donations over $10.00 will receive a charitable tax receipt). You can find it at: https://sheringhamlighthouse.ca/get-involved-2/make-a-donation/ THANK YOU! Anyone who takes photographs knows that things don’t always turn out as planned. A click at the wrong time, a shake of the camera or a wrong setting can produce something entirely unintended. Often, the results of these situations are simply discarded. But sometimes, with a bit of luck, and with a willingness to look again with a fresh eye and an open mind, the results can be startling. We’ve collected a number of the images created by the children during their visit to the lighthouse that didn’t quite turn out as intended, but that struck us as beautiful abstract images nontheless. We’ve called this collection “UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES”, and we hope they will inspire you to look again at our heritage treasures like Sheringham Point Lighthouse, and make a donation to help us ensure its conservation. Take a look at these few samples on the next page, we think you’ll be amazed!
