Each release feels like a continuation rather than a beginning; every piece belongs to the same story.AVDW53

BALANCING CREATIVITY WITH CLARITYIn Leopoldstraat, just behind BOTANIC SANCTUARY, the window of AVDW is the kind that makes you slow your pace and take a second look. Expressive prints, rich textures and confident combinations are presented on the mannequins, offering an immediate sense of the brand’s character. Founded in 2019 by designer ANNICK VANDEN WEGHE, the label has developed a recognisable visual language shaped by tactile fabrics and silhouettes that move with ease while retaining a refined presence.Today, AVDW is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between mother and daughter, as Romée Bleys joined the company three years ago, bringing structure and managerial clarity to Annick’s creative process. Together they have refined the rhythm of the brand and broadened its reach.A NATURAL EVOLUTIONRomée’s arrival was never part of a long-term plan, instead it grew out of circumstance and instinct. Graduating during the pandemic, she struggled to find a role that felt authentic, until an internship within her mother’s label gradually evolved into a permanent position overseeing management and production.“It all happened organically. I realised I wasn’t going to find a place where I truly belonged, and entering my mother’s world felt natural. I am not a designer – that is entirely her domain – but I offer perspective and help translate ideas into structure. We work in different ways, and that contrast works, as our collections take shape”, Romée explains. “Each release feels like a continuation rather than a beginning; every piece belongs to the same story, and that sense of continuity comes from MY MOTHER’S VISION.” Annick’s studio may appear chaotic at times, dotted with fabrics and notes, yet Romée learned to trust the logic within it. Eight collections later, their collaboration has settled into a steady creative rhythm. BRINGING CLARITY TO CHAOSBefore Romée joined, AVDW operated through a cash-and-carry model with small drops and significant stock. The brand now presents two structured collections each year, works with preorders and develops original prints, culminating in showroom presentations at the beginning and end of each season. The opening of the Antwerp boutique marked a turning point, allowing clients to experience the full breadth of the collections. “Still, we never wanted structure to restrict creativity”, Romée says. “Deadlines give directions, but my mother always begins early and works instinctively. When the designs are ready, I ask the practical questions: what will be the name, the theme or the story? And somehow the final identity of a collection always appears NATURALLY.” LUXURY MEETS EVERYDAY EASEAnnick conceived AVDW as a creative playground shaped by travel, vintage discoveries and spontaneous observation, drawing inspiration from overlooked details and fleeting encounters. “When I travel, even the smallest detail can spark an idea”, she reflects. “I once photographed a sewer grate in Barcelona and transformed its star pattern into a design. Inspiration may come from an elderly woman’s blouse or a velvet bow on a collar. It is about being present in the world and allowing impressions to become part of the collection.”The label embraces SLOW FASHION, creating garments intended to endure beyond seasons. Silk, jacquard and distinctive prints elevate relaxed silhouettes, allowing pieces to be styled casually while maintaining a refined presence. Designed for women of any age, AVDW speaks to those who dress with confidence and individuality, combining unexpected elements in a language that feels contemporary and timeless. To experience their collection in person, visit AVDW at Leopoldstraat 31 in Antwerp. The boutique is open Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm, closed on Sundays. @avdw_antwerpAVDW is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between mother and daughter.Botanic magazine

A FAMILY AFFAIR IN STYLESince 2023, the label has been guided by Annabel Robijns and Mark Kohlberger, joined by Mark’s daughter, Joëlle Kohlberger, whose shared commitment has infused Black Rose Antwerp with renewed energy.Their approach combines professional discipline with warmth and accessibility, shaping a brand identity that feels PERSONAL.BALANCE AT THE HEART OF THE BRANDAlthough Mark describes himself as ‘the only man in the company’, he sees working alongside his wife and daughter as a strength, rather than an exception. It brings balance to the decision-making process and reinforces a shared sense of purpose. “I consider myself fortunate to work with Annabel and Joëlle every day”, he says. “They bring creative intuition and a strong understanding of what women want to wear, while I focus on structure, strategy and growth. Together we create beautiful, AFFORDABLE FASHION for working women – pieces that are commercial, contemporary and genuinely appreciated by the people who wear them.”Annabel, who previously worked in high-end fashion, had once considered stepping away from the industry. Instead, the family’s decision to take over the brand proved transformative. “It was Mark’s idea to acquire the label, and it turned out to be the best decision we could have made”, she notes. “We have seen remarkable growth in a short time, and what matters most is that women truly enjoy wearing our pieces.”DESIGNED FOR REAL LIFEAnnabel and Joëlle lead the creative directions, working closely with designers in Italy to translate ideas into fabrics, silhouettes and wearable collections. Their aim is to create clothing that feels relevant and versatile, offering a complete wardrobe that can transition easily between professional and social settings. “We design for the CONTEMPORARY WOMAN who wants to feel confident and comfortable throughout her day. Our fabrics are carefully chosen, our silhouettes are flattering, and there is always a subtle twist that keeps the pieces modern without making them difficult to wear”, Annabel explains. Comfort shapes every Black Rose piece, from soft tailoring to thoughtful details such as elasticated waistbands that make their trousers particularly beloved. The result is clothing that feels as good as it looks.A SHARED PASSIONWithin their showroom, the atmosphere mirrors the family spirit. Customers are welcomed with ease and familiarity, often returning not only for the collections but also for the personal connection they experience. “They just sense that we genuinely enjoy what we do, and that really creates a bond”, Joëlle adds. “Everything we do with Black Rose, we do with pleasure and passion, there is no heavy feeling of work and the days pass quickly. It is a dream working with family.”Rooted in Antwerp’s fashion culture and guided by A STRONG FAMILY BOND, Black Rose Antwerp continues to grow while remaining faithful to its DNA: creating clothing with integrity, warmth and a clear understanding of what women want.Together we create beautiful, affordable fashion for working women – pieces that are commercial, contemporary and genuinely appreciated by the people who wear them.Discover Black Rose Antwerp by appointment at their showroom or browse the collection online at blackrose.be. By the end of 2026, the brand will open its first flagship store, with further details to be announced on the website. @blackroseantwerpTogether we create beautiful, affordable fashion for working women – pieces that are commercial, contemporary and genuinely appreciated by the people who wear them.In Antwerp, a city renowned for its fashion heritage and forward-looking style, BLACK ROSE ANTWERP has found its place, speaking directly to the modern working woman. Its collections are designed for days that move easily from early meetings to evening plans, offering pieces that feel polished yet effortless to wear. FASHION THAT SEES EVERYONEFrom professional tennis to fashion design. Quite a curious change of scenery, you might think. For Stan Devriese, it was less a shift in direction than an expansion of purpose. Having built a public profile through sport, he began to reflect on how that visibility might serve a broader message. Together with two friends, he founded STARE, a fashion label rooted in visibility and shared experience. The idea emerged gradually. Nights out in the city, encounters in public spaces and the subtle discomfort of being seen as ‘different’ revealed how far society still has to go in matters of inclusion. “People would stare at me or ask misplaced questions because I’m in a wheelchair, and that made us realise how little people often understand about living with a disability”, Stan says. “What began as a response to those uneasy moments evolved into a thoughtful exploration of how clothing shapes confidence, identity and belonging.”CLOTHING THAT SUPPORTS CONFIDENCEWe all know that clothing plays a powerful role in how we feel when we step outside. Style is often dismissed as superficial, but it can shape posture, presence and self-assurance. Consider how different we feel when we leave the house in a well-puttogether outfit … there is an ease and confidence that follows us throughout the day.Rather than designing garments for one specific group, STARE creates pieces that strengthen confidence for anyone who wears them. The ambition is simple and far-reaching: clothing that allows people to feel at ease, recognised and comfortable in their own skin.ONE DESIGN, SHARED EXPERIENCEThen arose a practical question: what makes clothing feel comfortable and natural for everyone? As Stan and his co-founders spoke with more people, they realised that most garments are designed for a standing body. “For example, when designing trousers for someone seated in a wheelchair, we remove seams at the seat, position the pockets higher for easier access, raise the back for comfort and avoid tight closures”, he explains. “We also reduce excess fabric at the front, so the fit remains clean.” Small details, perhaps, but together they make a meaningful difference. The intention, however, was never to create a separate category of adaptive clothing. Instead, STARE develops garments that look identical for everyone while incorporating subtle adjustments that improve comfort. An extended size range from XS to XXL reflects the diversity of body shapes, and the label is working towards accessible care labels to support visually impaired wearers. Technically, different patterns may be used, but visually the garments remain the same – a SHARED LANGUAGE rather than a visible distinction.A BROADER VISION OF INCLUSIONFor Stan, inclusion is not about creating solutions for ‘them’, but about shaping a shared sense of ‘we’. Society tends to divide people into categories, while in reality everyone carries differences and insecurities. STARE therefore speaks to anyone who wishes to feel seen and respected, rather than defined by a single characteristic. The name itself reflects this intention. Derived from the phrase ‘to make people stare for the right reason’, it invites A SHIFT IN PERCEPTION. “People stare, and that’s human. But let it be because someone looks confident, stylish and comfortable”, Stan concludes. The STARE collection can be purchased via the webshop at stareantwerp.com. @stare.antwerpInclusion is not about creating solutions for ‘them’, but about shaping a shared ‘we’.

A sanctuary of measured wellbeingBotanic Health Spa was never meant to be a traditional hotel spa. From the outset, the vision was broader and decidedly more ambitious. The objective was not merely to offer relaxation, but to create a place where wellbeing is approached with intention, knowledge, and measurable impact.“I like to describe our spa as a space where nature, medical insight and holistic wellness converge”, explains Xavier Le Clef, Spa Manager at Botanic Health Spa. “From the very beginning, we knew we wanted to go beyond the classic hotel spa model. Every treatment and activity had to carry deeper meaning.” That ambition continues to shape Spa Botanic today. Guests first notice the serenity of the setting, yet beneath the calm lies the clear philosophy that wellbeing should be experienced and understood. THE MAT PHILOSOPHYAt the heart of Botanic Health Spa lies what Xavier Le Clef defines as MAT – Measurement, Advice and Therapy. Three words that subtly transform the meaning of a spa experience.“It begins with measurement”, he explains. “We want to understand where someone stands today – physically and energetically. Only then can we advise with precision. Therapy is the natural continuation.”Guests may undergo advanced diagnostics, including MOD scans, organic acid testing and comprehensive laboratory analyses. These assessments uncover patterns that often remain unnoticed in daily life – subtle deficiencies, inflammatory indicators and metabolic imbalances that influence energy levels, concentration and long-term vitality. From this insight, advice is shaped by a multidisciplinary team: two medical doctors, a dedicated health coach and TCM doctor Xavier Le Clef, who is also trained in osteopathy. →HEALTH SPABOTANIC59

Guests may first notice the serenity of the setting, yet beneath the calm lies the clear philosophy that wellbeing should be experienced and understood.Together, they develop personalised programmes that may include nutritional optimisation, IV infusions, oxygen therapy or infrared sessions. Therapy, in this context, is not an isolated treatment but the logical outcome of understanding.“Many hotels are elevating their spa concepts today, and they do so exceptionally well”, says Koen Kas, Health Futurist and Purpose & Delight Strategist at Botanic Health Spa. “What distinguishes us is CONTINUITY. Our ambition is to extend the experience beyond the stay itself – more coming soon.”INTELLIGENT PAMPERINGIf the Health Spa stands firmly on one thing, it is pampering… with purpose. Therefore, every treatment is designed to offer comfort while simultaneously supporting the body’s deeper biological processes. Take the FLOATING BED, for example. Guests are resting on a heated water base, and their bodies experience a sensation of near weightlessness, accompanied by soft music and a focused foot massage. It feels gentle, almost effortless, yet beneath that sensation, the nervous system gradually shifts into recovery mode. Stress levels decrease, muscular tension softens, and the body recalibrates. The INFRARED BED works more directly on a cellular level, stimulating repair mechanisms and helping to reduce inflammation. It can be combined with guided meditation or IV therapy, creating a layered treatment that merges relaxation with measurable benefit. OXYGEN THERAPY complements this approach: through controlled breathing via a specialised mask, the parasympathetic nervoussystem is activated, enhancing clarity, vitality, and resilience.Movement, too, is approached as a form of guided pampering – one that challenges rather than merely comforts. TECHNOGYM equipment provides immediate feedback under the supervision of coach Jens, transforming exercise into measurable progress. The difference at Spa Botanic lies in awareness. “We don’t simply offer comfort. We tell people what it does biologically; people leave relaxed and informed. They learn why a sauna influences cellular repair, how breathwork regulates the nervous system, how structured recovery contributes to longevity”, Koen Kas explains. →Botanic magazine

HE A LTH AWA R ENESS THROUGH SPA TALKSThe journey of health awareness does not stop with the treatments themselves. It continues through the Spa Talks, an initiative that reinforces the spa’s broader ambition: reshaping the way we understand WELLBEING. “We organise talks with experts who share their perspective on health and longevity, and how they guide people in changing their lifestyles. It centres around the questions: how can we move from a healthcare system centred on medication to one centred on prevention? How can we help people not with pills, but with meditation, mindfulness, the right nutrition, and intelligent movement?” Koen KAS NOTES.Each session invites leading voices to challenge conventional thinking. Among them are cardiologist and longevity specialist Carlos van Mieghem, who frames health as an investment in what truly matters, and Katrien de Vusser, who enriches the dialogue with her perspective. “We feel we have an EDUCATIONAL ROLE here”, Xavier Le Clef adds. “We want to be among the first to help shift our healthcare system towards prevention. It is pioneering work.”A SUBTLE EVOLUTIONA quiet evolution is taking shape. When Xavier Le Clef and Koen Kas speak about further unfolding the therapy component, they do so with measured confidence. The direction points toward deeper integration, more advanced preventive strategies and continued guidance that extends beyond the physical visit. The ambition reaches further than immediate wellbeing. It touches on LONGEVITY – not simply living longer, but living longer in strength, clarity and balance. The intention is to support guests in ways they may not yet realise they need, offering insight before symptoms surface and structure before decline begins. It marks the next chapter in Botanic Health Spa’s journey. To be continued. •We don’t simply offer comfort. We tell people what it does biologically; people leave relaxed and informed.63

WINE Where History Rests in Every BottleTheCELLARBotanic magazine

65Beneath the timeless elegance of our estate lies a space where history and craftsmanship quietly intertwine — the Wine Cellar. Long before it became home to thousands of carefully curated bottles, this remarkable cellar formed part of a monastery. In those early days, these vaulted underground rooms were connected to the monastery kitchens. The separate entrance beside the main building still bears witness to that past, once allowing easy access for the storage and movement of provisions. Here, monks stored their dry goods: potatoes, root vegetables, and other seasonal harvests meant to sustain the community throughout the year. The cool, stable temperature and protective stone walls created ideal conditions for preservation — qualities that, centuries later, would prove just as perfect for wine.Today, the former kitchen cellars have been transformed into an impressive wine sanctuary, housing around 9,000 bottles. Each bottle rests in the same calm, constant climate that once safeguarded the monastery’s harvest. The atmosphere remains authentic and serene, with the historic architecture lending character and depth to every tasting experience. It is also the perfect setting for an intimate wine tasting, where exceptional wines can be enjoyed alongside delicious bites in a truly unique atmosphere. What was once a place of nourishment for the body has become a place of refinement for the senses. The Wine Cellar stands as a tribute to heritage, craftsmanship, and the art of preservation — a living story written in stone and sealed in cork. •

Ganterie Boon has specialised in handmade gloves since 1884, offering visitors not merely an accessory, but a refined ritual rooted in craftsmanship. →Ganterie Boon HANDCRAFTED LUXURY GLOVES7 1

TRENDS AND STRATEGIESBehind the preserved Art Deco façade on Lombardenvest, elegant wooden cabinets and rows of archival boxes hold a quiet treasure: gloves crafted in small European family ateliers where skills are passed down through generations. Leather remains the signature, yet the collection also includes wool, silk and satin – each pair shaped by meticulous handwork and an uncompromising eye for QUALITY.GUARDIAN OF LEGACYEntering Ganterie Boon feels like stepping into a SLOWER rhythm of RETAIL. Gloves are opened with a traditional baguette tool, gently fitted, and adjusted with precision. Customers rest their arm on a cushion while the perfect fit is found. Repairs are offered to extend a glove’s life, reinforcing a philosophy of durability over disposability. The goal, Erik explains, is simple: “One exceptional pair can last a lifetime.”This dedication to authenticity resonates strongly with travellers seeking meaningful LUXURY. Erik sees the boutique as a guardian of legacy, committed to preserving its DNA while ensuring future relevance. Sustainability plays an increasing role in that vision, including the development of vegan models created with innovative cactus leather. Limited additions, such as handmade caps, complement the offering without diluting its identity.STATEM EN T OF SLOW LUXURYDespite its Harry Potter-esque interior, the brand embraces a modern outlook. An online boutique connects Antwerp artisanal excellence with clients worldwide, while partnerships with leading luxury hotels introduce discerning travellers to this unique destination. Yet growth remains intentional and organic. “We do not modernise for the sake of speed”, Erik notes. “We evolve while staying true to who we are. Ganterie Boon offers a refined counterpoint to mass production and stands as a statement of slow luxury: artisanal, PERSONAL and enduring.” For guests of Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp, a visit offers more than shopping. It is an encounter with Antwerp’s living heritage, where elegance is measured not by trends, but by timeless refinement.Ganterie BoonLombardenvest 2 2000 Antwerpenwww.ganterieboon.comA touch of historyGlove styles have evolved remarkably over time. Delicate cotton and lace designs for spring and summer, children’s ceremonial gloves and coordinated wedding sets have largely faded from daily life. Today, gloves are worn mainly for warmth and protection, whereas during the Belle Époque they shielded skin from the sun and signaled refinement. Length, material and etiquette once conveyed social status, evoking the glamour of opera evenings and Hollywood icons – a reminder that gloves have long embodied both elegance and practicality.Few places preserve this tradition as faithfully as Ganterie Boon. Established in 1884, the boutique has passed through devoted hands for generations. Around 1922, the Italian Ghianda brothers transferred ownership to Arthur Boon, who in 1970 entrusted the shop to Maria ‘Maroushka’ Peeters. Patsy Sarteel succeeded her in 1976, followed in 2010 by her daughter Sofie Possemiers. Since 2023, Sofie’s cousin Erik Van Heuven, together with his daughters Roxanne, Olivia, Alice and Laura, has continued the stewardship of this remarkable house. Madonna Botanic ApprovedOne of our Botanic Approved favorites is Madonna, beautifully located inside the magnificent Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA). Just like the museum itself, the setting is elegant and inspiring, yet wonderfully welcoming. The restaurant offers a refined menu where seasonal ingredients are transformed into delicate, flavorful dishes that feel both sophisticated and approachable. In the warmer months, the terrace becomes one of the most charming spots in the city. With its relaxed atmosphere and subtle Parisian allure, it’s the perfect place to linger over a glass of wine or a refreshing aperitif.Whether you stop by for a drink after visiting the museum, a delicious lunch, or a refined yet relaxed dinner, Madonna is a place we warmly recommend. It perfectly captures the spirit of Antwerp: cultured, stylish, and effortlessly enjoyable. •At Botanic, we are surrounded by culinary excellence every day: five restaurants, together holding an impressive three Michelin stars. Yet our team members also love to venture out themselves, discovering why Antwerp is the second city in Europe and the fourth in the world with the most Michelin stars per capita. Beyond all these starred restaurants, however, there is so much more to discover in the city. And who better to guide you than the locals who know their city inside and out?Botanic Botanic magazine magazine

The Ritz Restaurant in London was voted the best restaurant in the UK last year. Our Marketing & Partnership Manager Sven Klockaerts couldn’t agree more.77

For Sven Klockaerts, travel is not an escape from everyday life. It is the very essence of it. As Marketing & Partnership Manager at Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp, he navigates the WORLD with a discerning eye, guided by a fascination for excellence in its most refined forms. After five years in his role, his passion has only deepened. He has become even more obsessed with STARS. Not celebrities, but Michelin distinctions. Exceptional hotels. Remarkable restaurants. Service that feels effortless but unforgettable. It is a pursuit that defines both his professional mindset and his personal way of living.A LIFE SHAPED BY JOURNEYSSven’s relationship with travel began early. His parents took him across continents, nurturing a curiosity that became lifelong. “I’ll never forget releasing baby turtles in Costa Rica, seeing bears in Alaska, or swimming alongside a whale shark”, he reflects. “Those moments are core memories. Adventure remains essential, immersion over comfort. I need that sense of awe.”Travel soon became destiny. “At fourteen, standing on the Empire State Building, I told my parents I would live in New York one day. At eighteen, I made it reality”, he smiles. Paris followed, further shaping his aesthetic sensitivity and love for refinement. Sven Klockaerts MARKETING & PARTNERSHIP MANAGERToday, those influences appear in his recently renovated townhouse. Inspired by the elegance of the hotels he admires, the residence feels like an intimate sanctuary. A black guest bathroom nods to Hôtel Costes in Paris, while warm neutrals, copper accents and refined materials create quiet sophistication. A glass floor revealing the wine cellar below subtly echoes impressions gathered abroad.WOW SERVICESome travel memories transcend place and become guiding principles. As a child, Sven experienced hospitality at properties such as The St. Regis Le Morne Resort in Mauritius and Ritz-Carlton hotels. What struck him most was not grandeur, but recognition. “They greeted you by your name”, he says. “You weren’t a room number; you were a person. From the moment you entered and wherever you went, every team member carried that awareness. The service felt intuitive rather than rehearsed. That stayed with me. Pure service, wow.”These impressions continue to shape his work at Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp. “I often think: could we implement this? Could we refine that?” he adds. “Travel inspires me to ask how we can elevate the experience even further. While architecture and heritage create visual impact, I believe true luxury resides elsewhere. What guests remember is how they were MADE TO FEEL.”He recalls receiving a message from a Dutch personality following a return visit. “She thanked us for making her feel at home every time she stays. That is the greatest compliment.”THE ART OF REFINEMENTSven describes himself as someone who seeks the ‘good life’ in its most thoughtful expression, a philosophy aligned with the world’s most distinguished hotels and culinary destinations. Travel, in that sense, is a mindset. Raised in a family of explorers and shaped by life abroad, he developed an instinctive openness to experience. “People joke that it’s in my DNA”, he explains. “But what motivates me is nuance: the subtle differences that distinguish good from EXCEPTIONAL. A perfectly timed gesture. A warm greeting. A detail noticed without asking. These are the elements that transform a stay into a memory.”Last year, Sven travelled to Australia, a journey he initially approached with hesitation due to the distance. The vast landscapes and distinct atmosphere, however, left a deep IMPRESSION. Now, he has committed to another longawaited destination: Tahiti and Bora Bora. “It has been on my list for ten years. You wonder whether the time and investment are worth it. My philosophy today is simple: don’t postpone. DO IT now.”In many ways, Sven’s journey mirrors the ethos of Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp: a dialogue between heritage and modernity, elegance and comfort, excellence and emotional warmth. True luxury is not defined by opulence, but by how deeply it makes you feel at ease. And for a star hunter, that feeling is the rarest discovery of all.Botanic magazine

79Refinement lies in harmony: details aligned, service intuitive, atmosphere balanced. It is equally present in a Michelin dining room, a discreet boutique hotel, or the quiet elegance of a well-designed space. Sven’s current favouritesTHE R ITZ RESTAURANT**LondonA masterclass in timeless elegance and two-star Michelin finesse. From the gracious welcome to the final farewell, every detail feels ceremonial. Even a simple mint tea becomes theatre, infused in multiple variations and presented with flourish. Voted the best restaurant in the UK last year – entirely deserved – the experience is elevated by impeccable service, an effortless sense of connection, and a beautifully dressed dining room where guests’ elegant attire perfectly matches the refined Ritz atmosphere.ZILTE***AntwerpDining at ZILTE is refinement with a panoramic perspective. High above the city, Viki Geunes’ cuisine combines precision and creativity, while the ever-changing light over Antwerp provides a breathtaking backdrop. For a self-confessed star hunter, this is gastronomy that feels both elevated and deeply rooted in place.J.K. PLACEParisWith only 29 rooms, this boutique hotel feels like entering a private residence. Warm interiors and attentive yet discreet service create an immediate sense of belonging. The team’s personal approach – evident in tailored recommendations and thoughtful gestures – makes every stay feel intimate and entirely bespoke. Even the General Manager himself, Mr Ortogni, demonstrates how personal the service is.VISTA*WillemstadIn a quiet, almost unexpected location in the Netherlands, Vista delivers a Michelin-starred experience worth the journey. The cuisine is refined yet accessible, the setting serene, and the sense of discovery part of its charm. A destination for those who appreciate culinary excellence away from the spotlight.LA FONDATIONParisJust beyond the périphérique, this hidden gem surprises with its neighbourhood charm and exceptional value. Explore the city by bicycle, discover bakeries and bistros around the corner, then return to a rooftop terrace overlooking the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre. A full wellness offering, relaxed atmosphere, and an outstanding price-quality ratio complete the appeal. Steve JoosenRESTAURANT MANAGER AT HENRY’S BISTROAs someone who lives and breathes hospitality, Steve loves to explore and discover: “I have a thirst to keep learning, to KEEP EVOLVING in the world of food, wine and spirits. Travel is an essential part in that hunger for knowledge. I never studied hospitality, never studied abroad. I am a selftaught professional in the school of life. I did that by being passionate about the job and by travelling abroad, soaking up experiences and applying them in my work.”THE DISCOV ERY OF TRUE HOSPITALITYFor Steve, North America and Asia are true pioneers when it comes to hospitality. “Certainly Singapore: they seem to have invented hospitality. No ask is too big, and everything is organised to the smallest of details. They have a knack for remembering the tiniest, yet most THOUGHTFUL DETAILS about their guests. From names to their preferred cocktails and the locations they have visited.” It is the same kind of personal attention Steve likes to apply at Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp. “We always address our clients personally and pay close attention to what they tell us. No one should ever feel like merely a room number here. For me, there’s no such thing as being too friendly.” That is why Steve remembers his trip to HILTON KEY WEST RESORT so vividly. The personal attention of the staff was what made his visit to the Key West so spectacular. “After two days, we received a complimentary cocktail of the house. A day later, the staff noticed we were a bit overheated, and they brought us ice cream and cooled down our feet. And after a week? A free bottle of wine. Small gestures, but with a BIG IMPACT.”For me, there’s no such thing as being too friendly.SALON**Cape TownAn intimate dining experience that celebrates South African cuisine with a twist. Louise Weber EXECUTIVE HOUSEKEEPING MANAGERAs Executive Housekeeping Manager at Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp, Louiseoversees far more than immaculate rooms. She leads a team of sixty, supervises 108 guest rooms, manages all public spaces across the 25,000-square-metre Botanic Sanctuary grounds, ensures the spa remains pristine, and cares for the gardens and greenery that soften the historic site. And yes, amid all the busyness, JOURNEYS ABROAD remain essential to her.M EANINGFUL TR AV ELFor Louise, travel represents precious time with her family and an opportunity to broaden perspectives, especially for her daughter. “We often travel outside Europe”, she explains. “I want my daughter to see different cultures, religions and ways of living. Travelling opens your mind and reminds you that life is bigger than what we know in Belgium.”That OPENNESS began early in adulthood. At 23, she spent a year backpacking through India with her then boyfriend – now husband. The journey proved transformative. “India is a place you either love or hate. I fell in love with it. Travelling beyond the cities into remote regions challenged my comfort zone and strengthened my independence. It shaped me as a woman. I learned to stand up for myself and gained clarity about my future.”Years later, Namibia became another DEFINING DESTINATION, this time as a family experience. The vast landscapes and wildlife captivated her daughter, who developed a deep affection for Africa. “Seeing the world through her eyes makes travel even more meaningful”, Louise reflects.L E SSONS F ROM THE SKIES AND CITIESBefore entering hospitality, Louise worked as a flight attendant, flying weekly to New York for several years. Alone at 21 in one of the world’s most overwhelming cities, she learned to balance independence and self-care. “You live two lives”, she recalls. “One in the air, one on the ground. You must create balance and find routines that ground you wherever you are.”Her travels also shaped her understanding of hospitality. In Asia, service anticipates needs before they are spoken; in the United States, openness and communication create immediate ease. “Hospitality should feel like family”, she says. “It’s all about engagement with guests, by asking about preferred cleaning times, learning routines, and removing small inconveniences before they become frustrations.” Consistency and recognition are equally essential. At a favourite hotel in Austria, staff remember her family year after year and instinctively adapt to her daughter’s needs: “That feeling, BEING KNOWN without having to explain, stays with you for years. It requires communication across the entire team and attention to detail. That is true hospitality.”New Zealand remains high on her wish list. Having visited briefly during her aviation years, she longs to return and explore the landscapes beyond the cities. Yet for now, she finds equal fulfilment closer to home. “My professional family at Botanic is important to me”, she says. “It’s about staying connected and creating something meaningful together. And this through quiet precision, THOUGHTFUL DETAILS, genuine human contact and a deep sense of comfort.”Botanic magazine

Roos De Witte HEAD PASTRY CHEF - AFTERNOON AT BOTANIC BY ROGER VAN DAMME“Travelling relaxes and inspires me at the same time”, says Roos De Witte. “It allows me to step outside my own world, meet new cultures and people.” For the pastry chef, inspiration is often found in the rhythm of cities – places where coffee bars, bakeries and small restaurants reveal a culture through everyday rituals. A short escape can sharpen the senses as much as a long journey, offering new flavours, aesthetics and encounters that shape her CREATIVE VISION. Spontaneity, however, is not her approach; each trip is thoughtfully planned, guided by trusted recommendations and an instinct for aesthetic harmony. “My Google Maps is full of pins. If I choose a destination, it is because I know I will discover beautiful places, and beauty inspires me.”CITIES THAT SHAPED HER CRAFTParis marked a decisive chapter in Roos’ professional journey. At seventeen, she completed an internship at the InterContinental Le Grand Hotel, an experience that shaped her discipline and clarified her CULINARY DIRECTION. Living alone in the city, she developed an enduring fascination with pâtisseries, and intimate bistros hidden within its streets. “I built my foundation here. On every corner there was something new to taste and learn from; that curiosity has never left me.” If Paris taught her the foundations of her craft, Copenhagen revealed another kind of hospitality. One of simplicity and authenticity. Scandinavian design, defined by clarity and visual harmony, reshaped her understanding of presentation and atmosphere: “Everything there is designed for the eye, not only the food but even the people preparing it. Beauty and simplicity coexist effortlessly.” Dubai, in turn, introduced her to the power or presentation as experience. Seeing pastries presented on marble and illuminated with precise lighting demonstrated how staging can elevate dessert into a complete sensory moment. To her, it is the presentation that allows the pastry to speak. “Back in Antwerp all those impressions converge in my creations. I want guests to be surprised with every bite they take; my pastries should feel like a small DISCOVERY.”A short escape can sharpen the senses as much as a long journey, offering new flavours, aesthetics & encounters.ONE ZA’ABEELDubaiA contemporary luxury hotel where thoughtful presentation allows desserts to stand out, highlighting texture, detail and craftsmanship. A new era of luxury travel sets sail EXPLORA JOURNEYS REDEFINES TRAVELLING BY SEA WITH ELEGANT, ALL-INCLUSIVE JOURNEYSA new era of luxury travel sets sail luxury travel 87

Suzanne Kochen, Head of Sales for Northern Europe, shares why Explora Journeys isn’t just another cruise line. In fact, the brand deliberately challenges traditional perceptions of cruising. “We offer journeys. A cruise often comes with certain stereotypes, while our concept is much closer to a TRAVELLING LUXURY RESORT that moves with you while the ocean becomes part of the experience.” An ocean state of mind While many companies in this segment were originally tailored to the American market, Explora Journeys was conceived with the European traveller firmly in mind. “That European DNA is one of our key pillars”, Suzanne says. “You notice it in the design of our ships, in the service and even in the culinary experiences aboard.”A clear example is the accommodation. The ships feature suites only, each with their own private terrace overlooking the sea. “We Europeans love being outside, even if the weather isn’t perfect. We simply dress accordingly. We want to feel the sea breeze, bask in the golden glow of the sun, soak up the complete atmosphere of the destination we’re visiting.” That philosophy translates further into the rest of the ship with generous outdoor spaces, panoramic views and a constant visual connection with the surroundings and the ocean. Most sunbed and loungers face the horizon, inviting guests to spend as much time as possible outdoors. It perfectly captures the brand’s guiding philosophy: the ‘Ocean State of Mind’. “For us, the ocean is a connector”, Suzanne reflects. “Not only in a practical sense between continents, but S →For many seasoned travellers, true luxury today is no longer defined by extravagance alone. It lies in space, time, authenticity and the freedom to experience the world comfortably and at your own pace. It is precisely this philosophy that defines Explora Journeys, a relatively new player in the world of luxury travel that prefers to speak not of cruises, but of journeys at sea.Botanic magazine

between people. The sea as a way of inspiring, challenging you to introspection, providing you with calm and rest and in that way, helping you to connect you with yourself.”Time is pricelessTravellers today seek fewer destinations, but richer experiences. Explora Journeys responds to this shift by designing itineraries that leave room for depth rather than speed. “We deliberately combine well-known destinations with lesser-known places”, Suzanne explains. “And we stay longer in port than most cruise lines. Sometimes we don’t depart until ten in the evening or even later. That way, guests can truly immerse themselves in the destination.”It means lingering over dinner in a Greek harbour, strolling through a Spanish town after sunset or even discovering the vibrant night life of Ibiza long after most other ships have departed. “That feeling of having time is priceless”, she adds. “The sea days in between allow guests to pause, recharge and fully enjoy life on board.”Another distinctive element is that Explora Journeys does not operate repetitive loops. Instead, itineraries change constantly, allowing travellers to extend their journeys and explore entire regions in one seamless experience. “You unpack once, and your five-star hotel travels with you. It becomes a journey in the truest sense of the word.” This flexibility allows guest to integrate their time at sea into a larger travel plan. Some travellers explore inland destinations first before continuing their discovery along the coast. “We encourage our travellers to see a journey with us as part of a broader trip”, Suzanne says. “For example, you could explore Japan on land for a week and then continue discovering the coastline with the ship. It becomes a natural extension of the trip rather than a standalone holiday.”Luxury without formalityWhile the ships embody refined elegance, the atmosphere on board is intentionally relaxed. The new generation of luxury travellers, Suzanne notes, is younger and more diverse than ever before. “We see more guests in their thirties and forties; entrepreneurs or professionals who are still very active in their careers. They appreciate high-quality experiences but prefer them in a more informal setting.” As a result, the traditional formal evenings often associated with cruising are absent. Instead, the emphasis is on comfort and authenticity. “Luxury today is feeling at ease”, Suzanne concludes. The scale of the ships play an important role in achieving that balance. Each vessel hosts around 900 guests, creating an atmosphere that is lively yet never crowded. A rare balance between privacy and sociability: “You can socialise, meet interesting people from all over the world or simply enjoy tranquillity and privacy. The choice is entirely yours.”Truly all-inclusivePerhaps one of the most appreciated aspects of the Explora experience is its genuine all-inclusive philosophy. Once on board, guests rarely have to think about practicalities. “You don’t need to sign bills or reach for your credit card all the time. The mini fridge in your suite? Included. Want to have breakfast in your room? Enjoy room service, as part of the experience.” That concept extends to the culinary experience, which is considered a cornerstone for the journey. Guests can choose between six distinct restaurants, each offering a different gastronomic sensation. From refined French classics such as →89

foie gras and escargots, to Mediterranean mezze and pan-Asian cuisine, the selection reflects the cosmopolitan spirit of the brand. At the heart of it all lies the Marketplace, a dynamic culinary hub with numerous live cooking stations where dishes are prepared à la minute throughout the day. “Freshness is key”, Suzanne notes. “Nothing is kept warm for hours. Everything is prepared on demand, often inspired by the region we are visiting.” Small indulgences further enhance the sense of carefree luxury: an oyster paired with champagne at sunset, freshly prepared pasta, or vitamin-packed smoothies at breakfast – all enjoyed without ever needing to tap your credit card. “Being able to enjoy these little pleasures without thinking about them, that’s what real luxury feels like.”The only exception to the all-inclusive philosophy is Anthology, an intimate fine-dining concept offering an Italian-inspired, Michelin-worthy seven course tasting menu with exclusive wine pairings. The art of intuitive serviceAnother defining element of the Explora Journeys philosophy is personal service. According to Suzanne, genuine luxury depends on service that feels intuitive rather than scripted. After a few days on board, guests often find that their favourite coffee appears before they even ask for it. It is precisely these small gestures that create a sense of care and attention. “Our crew quickly learns your preferences”, she says. “Perhaps you like a particular drink in the afternoon or have a favourite seat in one of the cafés. We make it a point to remember these details.” With a crew representing dozens of nationalities, the atmosphere on board is also deeply international, reflecting the spirit of travel itself. A sustainable future at seaAs luxury travel evolves, sustainability is becoming an increasingly important consideration. Explora journeys is part of the privately owned MSC Group, a family-run organisation with centuries of maritime heritage. The company is not publicly listed, and that has its advantages: “Decisions are made with a long-term vision and with the heart of a family business.” For the owners, protecting the ocean is therefore essential. “They want to ensure that future generations can continue to explore oceans responsibly.”The ships incorporate various technologies to reduce environmental impact, including the ability to connect to shore power in ports, innovative hull coatings that minimise ecological disturbance and design features that reduce underwater noise for marine life. “We also work closely with local communities when organising excursions”, Suzanne adds. “The goal is not only to visit destinations, but to contribute positively to them.”A sense of wonderFor Suzanne, the magic of travelling by sea is defined by the unforgettable moments it creates. When asked about the most memorable destination she experiences, her answer comes without hesitation: Alaska. “The diversity of nature in Alaska is extraordinary”, she smiles. “In spring the snow begins to melt, flowers start to appear and wildlife awakens. In autumn you witness the salmon migration and bears preparing for winter.” One moment in particular remains vivid in her memory. “Early in the morning, as I was enjoying my coffee on my terrace, I suddenly heard a soft breath of air. A whale surfaced right next to the ship. Moments like these remind you how powerful and beautiful the ocean truly is.” Precisely the sense of wonder that Explora Journeys seeks to capture. By combining thoughtful design, refined hospitality and the timeless allure of the sea, the brand offers travellers a new way to explore the world. “A journey at sea allows you to slow down, discover multiple cultures and experience the world in a completely different rhythm. Your hotel moves with you, and the ocean becomes part of the journey.” •www.explorajourneys.com91

SLEEP AS THE ULTIMATE LUXURYEXPERIENCEIn the hushed heart of Antwerp, Botanic Sanctuary has established a reputation defined by quiet luxury. Guests arrive for Michelin-starred gastronomy, a world-class spa and architectural beauty, yet what ultimately shapes their stay is something far more intimate – the quality of rest. In this spirit, the hotel’s collaboration with HÄSTENS, realised through Belgian distributor Beets-Patteet, reframes sleep as the pinnacle of luxury experience. The partnership feels less like a commercial decision, and more like an organic alignment of philosophies. Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp offers a sanctuary rooted in tranquillity and restoration; Hästens has spent more than 170 years perfecting the art of restorative sleep through craftmanship and natural materials. Together, they present a shared vision: that true luxury lies in deep and qualitative rest.A NAT U R A L A LLI A NCE OF HERITAGE AND PRESTIGEThe collaboration began with Beets-Patteet, the exclusive Hästens distributor in Belgium and a family business renowned for its expertise in luxury beds. For owner, Jori Martens, the connection felt inevitable: “If Antwerp’s most prestigious hotel is devoted to wellbeing and refinement, then one of its suites should offer the most EXCEPTIONAL SLEEP EXPERIENCE imaginable.” Beets-Patteet selected the iconic Hästens 2000T model – a bed revered worldwide for its craftmanship and comfort – and reinterpreted it specifically for the suite. Instead of the signature blue check, the bed is upholstered in a refined silvery-grey check, lending a softer presence in the room. Every element was considered with precision: “We visited the suite repeatedly, studying the light, textures, artworks and spatial rhythm. When guests enter, the bed should feel inevitable, as if it has always belonged there.”A discreet gold plaque reading ‘Hästens for Botanic Sanctuary’ highlights the bespoke character of the bed, a quiet detail that reinforces its exclusivity.CR A F TM A NSHIP ROOTED IN NATUREThe attention to detail extends beyond aesthetics into the very essence of the bed’s construction. with ARTISANAL MANUFACTURING and natural materials, such as Scandinavian pine, horsehair, wool, cotton and flax. “People often underestimate how profoundly materials affect their sleep”, Jori says. “When you lie in a bed made entirely from natural fibres, the body relaxes differently as there is no trapped heat, no static and no artificial resistance.” An average Hästens bed weighs around 260 kilograms, a testament to its density and durability. The wooden frame itself is assembled through a traditional process of heating, shaping and interlocking the timber before cooling it into place, eliminating the need for screws and preventing any future creaking. Topped with a mattress containing more than a thousand pocket springs, the bed adapts seamlessly to movement, maintaining equilibrium even when shared.THE MONASTERY SU ITE: A SA NCT UA RY W ITHI N A SANCTUARYThe Hästens bed forms the centrepiece of the reimagined Monastery Suite, one of the three suites at Botanic dedicated to experiential pillars: art and fashion, wellness and spa, and – above all – REST AND SANCTUARY. Steeped in monastic heritage, the suite invites guests into an atmosphere of stillness and retreat.“We wanted to create a space where guests could truly disconnect”, Sven Klockaerts, Marketing & Partnership Manager at Botanic Sanctuary notes. “Introducing a Hästens bed truly strengthens that intention, because sleep is the most intimate and restorative part of our guests’ journey.”The bed’s neutral palette is complemented by textiles and embroidery that subtly echo the colours of the suite’s artwork – soft gold, white and burgundy accents that create a visual harmony.THE I M PORTA NCE OF A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEPThe focus ultimately returns to what matters most: the guest experience. In luxury hospitality, where guests often spend most of their time in a hotel room, the quality of sleep plays a defining role in their stay. “A good night’s sleep shapes everything that follows”, Sven reflects. “When guests wake feeling restored, their entire experience – the spa, the gastronomy, the city – is enhanced. Sleep is not an add-on; it is fundamental.”The Hästens bed places sleep at the centre of wellbeing, encouraging guests to step away from digital distraction and allow the body TO RECOVER NATURALLY. It represents a quiet form of luxury. Jori shares this view: “Sleeping on a Hästens bed is something people remember. It goes beyond comfort; it brings balance, stillness and genuine restoration. Just as Botanic Sanctuary offers a place of calm within the city, this bed offers a sense of calm through the night.” •Just as Botanic Sanctuary offers a place of calm within the city, this bed offers a sense of calm through the night.Botanic magazine
