The Delta Dental PPO plan allows for dual coverage. You, as the primary
insured, would be billed first, but your spouse or domestic partner’s
coverage would be secondary, which could lower your out-of-pocket
costs.
How much you save depends on whether your secondary carrier has a
non-duplication of coverage clause. Make sure to check the plan booklet
of the secondary carrier for this clause. If LAPPL is the secondary carrier,
they have standard dual coverage.

PLANNING FOR
RETIREMENT

Here are points to consider if you are
thinking about retiring in the future:

Life/AD&D Insurance Coverage
Upon retirement, retirees have the option to continue their Life
Insurance coverage:

• Basic Life/AD&D can be ported or converted with no medical
exam.

• Supplemental Life/AD&D coverage can be ported or
converted, or continued through LAPPL for 24 months with
no medical exam.

• If continued through LAPPL, coverage can be
reduced during retirement but not increased and
premiums will be paid through LAFPP deductions.
After 24 months, retirees have the option to port and
convert coverage through MetLife directly.

Dental Insurance Coverage
Retirees must also decide if they wish to continue Dental Coverage
through LAPPL. The retiree dental subsidy is negotiated by LAPPL and
you would have the same plan as you had when you were an active
member.

Pet Insurance Coverage
Retirees must also decide if they wish to continue Pet Insurance
through LAPPL.

Please be advised, when you retire, you are not eligible for the Legal,
LTD, and MAP/SAB benefits.

23

Off Payroll Updates

If you fall off payroll, you may be eligible to continue your LAPPL
benefits via direct bill. Please note, a $25 administration fee may
apply.
