1:2 ‫ִשׁ ְמעוּ‬ ‫ַה ְזּ ֵק ִנים ז ֹאת ־‬ ‫ְו ַה ֲא ִזינוּ‬ ‫י ְשׁ ֵבי ֹכּל‬ ‫ָה ָא ֶרץ‬ of the land. Hath this been
in your days, or even in the

hear-you(p) ! this the·old-ones and·cgive-ear-you(p) ! all-of ones-dwelling-of the·land 3 Tell ye your children of it,

‫ֶה ָה ְי ָתה‬ ‫ִבּי ֵמי ֶכם זּ ֹאת‬ ‫ִבּי ֵמי ְו ִאם‬ ‫ֲא ֹב ֵתי ֶכם‬ : their children, and their
children another generation.

1:5 ‫ָה ִקיצוּ‬ ‫וּ ְבכוּ ִשׁכּ ִרים‬ ‫ְו ֵהי ִללוּ‬ ‫ֹשׁ ֵתי ־ ָכּל‬ ‫ָי ִין‬ 5 Awake, ye drunkards, and
weep; and howl, all ye

the new wine; for it is cut
cawake-you(p) ! drunkards and·lament-you(p) ! and·chowl-you(p) ! all-of ones-drinking-of wine off from your mouth.

‫ִנ ְכ ַרת ִכּי ָע ִסיס ־ ַעל‬ ‫ִמ ִפּי ֶכם‬ :

1:6 ‫ג י ־ ִכּי‬ ‫ָע ָלה‬ ‫ַא ְר ִצי ־ ַעל‬ ‫ְו ֵאין ָעצוּם‬ ‫ִשׁ ָנּיו ִמ ְס ָפּר‬ 6 For a nation is come up
upon my land, strong, and

‫ִשׁ ֵנּי‬ ‫וּ ְמ ַת ְלּע ת ַא ְר ֵיה‬ ‫ָל ִביא‬ ‫ל‬:
7 He hath laid my vine

tree: he hath made it clean
teeth-of lion and·fangs-of parent-lion to·him bare, and cast [it] away; the
branches thereof are made
1:7 ‫ְל ַשׁ ָמּה ַגּ ְפ ִני ָשׂם‬ ‫וּ ְת ֵא ָנ ִתי‬ ‫ִל ְק ָצ ָפה‬ ‫ָח ֹשׂף‬ white.

1:8 ‫ֱא ִלי‬ ‫ֲח ֻג ַרת ִכּ ְבתוּ ָלה‬ ‫ַשׂק ־‬ ‫ַבּ ַעל ־ ַעל‬ ‫ְנעוּ ֶרי ָה‬ :

land mourneth; for the corn

husbandmen; howl, O ye

‫ָא ַבד ִכּי ְשׂ ֹע ָרה‬ ‫ְק ִציר‬ ‫ ָשׂ ֶדה‬: Joel 1

1:12 ‫ַה ֶגּ ֶפן‬ ‫ה ִבי ָשׁה‬ ‫ְו ַה ְתּ ֵא ָנה‬ ‫ֻא ְמ ָל ָלה‬ ‫ִרמּ ן‬ ‫ָתּ ָמר ־ ַגּם‬ 12 The vine is dried up, and
the fig tree languisheth; the

tree also, and the apple tree,
the·vine she-cis-dried-up and·the·fig-tree she-is-menfeebled pomegranate moreover palm-tree [even] all the trees of the

‫ְו ַתפּוּ ַח‬ ‫ֲע ֵצי ־ ָכּל‬ ‫ַה ָשּׂ ֶדה‬ ‫ָי ֵבשׁוּ‬ ‫ֹה ִבישׁ ־ ִכּי‬ ‫־ ִמן ָשׂשׂ ן‬ joy is withered away from
the sons of men.

13 Gird yourselves, and

LORD your God, and cry

come-you(p) ! lodge-you(p) ! in·the·sackcloths ones-mministering-of Elohim-of·me that 15 Alas for the day! for the
day of the LORD [is] at

from the Almighty shall it

of our God?

1:15 ‫ַליּ ם ֲא ָההּ‬ ‫י ם ָקר ב ִכּי‬ ‫וּ ְכ ֹשׁד ְיה ָוה‬ ‫ִמ ַשׁ ַדּי‬ have no pasture; yea, the
flocks of sheep are made

alas ! for·the·day that near day-of Yahweh and·as·devastation from·Who-Suffices 19 O LORD, to thee will I
cry: for the fire hath

1:16 ‫ֶנ ֶגד ֲהל א‬ ‫ֵעי ֵנינוּ‬ ‫ִנ ְכ ָרת ֹא ֶכל‬ ‫ִמ ֵבּית‬ ‫ֱא ֵהינוּ‬ ‫ִשׂ ְמ ָחה‬ cry also unto thee: for the
rivers of waters are dried
