The type of information communicated is deliberately structured to inform, persuade, and entertain. WORDS DICTION Diction refers to how a speaker articulates words. Good diction involves using the correct pronunciation, tone, and enunciation to ensure that the spoken words are clear. Improving diction can enhance the quality of the speech, making it easier for others to comprehend and connect with your message. SPEECH RATE Speech rate is a person's habitual speaking speed measured by words per minute (wpm). Ideal speech rate is betweeen 125 - 150 wpm. Speech rate enables speaker to modulate their voice and make pauses to emphasis the important parts of the speech. VOICE PITCH Pitch refers to the perceived highness or lowness of a tone in speech, and is determined by the frequency of vibrations produced by the vocal cords. Pitch can be used to place emphasis, convey emotion, demonstrate authority, add vocal variety and create a conversational effect. Features REGISTER Register is the level of formality of speech determined by the social context to show the audience how formal the conversation is based on their relationship. Registers consists of the words used, tone and body language. Types include frozen, formal, casual and intimate registers.
BODY LANGUAGE Using body language through hand signals, gestures and postures can improve and emphasize the verbal message being communicated. It allows the expression of emotions and intentions that may not be fully conveyed through words alone. Features VOCAL QUALITY Vocal quality refers to the changes in a speaker's voice caused by factors such as their breath, air pressure, and phonation. These variations alter how the speaker sounds. Voice quality conveys the emotion of the speaker to the audience effectively.
