programme for National University of Singapore (NUS)
undergraduates. Each year, USP admits 180 undergraduates
from across seven faculties or schools in NUS (Arts and Social
Sciences,Engineering,Business,Law,DesignandEnvironment,

UComputing, Science). These students take modules from

USP as part of their university level requirements. Today, it is
home to 675 students, 80 international students and a global
network of over 1,000 alumni.

Since 2001, USP offers a globally distinctive university
experience with its broad-based curriculum that balances
both breadth and depth to give students an interdisciplinary
education. This allows students to pursue a broad range of
intellectual interests beyond their major and critically engage
with issues from a Singapore perspective.

With a residential college (RC) component incorporated,
USP provides an integrated residential learning environment
– one of the first to emerge in Singapore. USP students have

Sthe opportunity to take part in a wide and varied scope

of residential activities that encourage breadth, open-
mindedness, and critical thinking. Furthermore, by bringing
people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines together,
the RC creates a dynamic space for ideas and innovations to
thrive, and extends learning far beyond the classroom. This
grows students personally and professionally while honing
leadership attributes.

Even after the completion of their education in NUS,
many USP graduates have leveraged the opportunities made
available through USP and gone on to lead and contribute to

Pvaried fields, such as business, research, media, government,

and the arts.

interested in organising events involving both the
USP community and the public. They include:

USC also organises many major projects, which often receive news coverage.

USP Productions
USP Productions held its 10th annual production this year, staging a double bill for the first time at the Drama
Centre Black Box. Two original scripts by USP students, “Less Than Three” and “404 Not Found” were staged by a
cast and crew which made up entirely of USP students over four shows. The plays often share common themes
of issues that are prevalent in today’s world.

SEAMConference
In collaboration with theYale Student Southeast Asian
Movement (YaleSEAM), USC organised the inaugural
NUS USP-Yale Student Southeast Asian Movement
Conference (SEAMConference). The conference
brought 100 students from school across Southeast
Asia together to discuss issues and challenges
faced by the region, as well as to connect foster ties
between the youth, and featured prominent speakers
and panelists including U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN,
Nina Hachigian and Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry
of Culture, Community and Youth, Baey Yam Keng.

Asian Undergraduate Summit (AUS)
Following a successful first run, the 2nd AUS was
organised for 100 participants from Singapore
and overseas partner universities from Thailand,
Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. The theme for the
2nd summit was “Leadership in a Complex World:
Smart Cities, Smart Citizens”. Participants attended
workshops and site visits, including a visit to the
World Cities Summit 2016. At the end of the summit,
participants presented their deliverables to a panel
of judges.

Freshmen Orientation Programme Be the Impact.

The Freshmen Orientation Projects (FOP) are a series of projects that are organized annually in order to induct
and orientate each incoming batch of USP freshmen into the USP Family. In aggregate, in 2015, approximately
145 freshmen participated in at least one orientation event, and approximately 100 seniors helped out, either
as a member of one of the many FOP organizing committees, or as an Orientation Group Leader (OGL).
USC FOP 2016 will involve a large and diverse audience, ensuring effective publicity. About 180 freshmen and
200 student helpers will be involved in the entire series of events.

1. Scholaris

As the first FOP event, Scholaris introduces and gears freshmen up for upcoming freshmen orientation activities
We shall be expecting 100 freshmen, 60 seniors, and 25 faculty members.

2. Freshmen Orientation Camp (FOC)

The USC orientation camp is a 4- day social camp where freshmen forge friendships and orientate themselves to
college life. To spice things up, the camp will consist of high-adrenaline activities which are bound to promote
teamwork and trust amongst freshmen; these include beach games, station games, amazing race, war games
and a finale night.
We will be receiving about 150 freshmen. The event will also involve 100 seniors, 50 alumni and approximately
300 USP students.

3. Freshmen Orientation Week (FOW)

The USP orientation week will be a 4- day camp held in Cinnamon College. Activities include academic talks,
alumni sharing, sports games, a carnivalstyle fair to introduce the interest groups in USP and a formal dinner.
We will be expecting about 180 freshmen, 110 seniors, 50 faculty members and various alumni members.

15

4. Rag & Flag

dance performances and construct various automated massive floats from scratch. It has been well-received
by the public and the student population of NUS for the past few years. In 2015, the Floating Platform had over
a thousand-strong audience witnessing this performance.

We will be expecting 1000-audience consisting of parents, alumni, staff members, the public and NUS students.
Partnered with 6 different voluntary organisations (beneficiaries) (list?) as part of NUSSU Rag & Flag Day 2016
targeting issues regarding the Environment, the Elderly, Education and Animals.

5. Dinner & Dance

As the last FOP event, Dinner & Dance

appreciation to their seniors as well as
for all involved in orientation to enjoy a
night of good food, music and games

There are usually around 220
