Colombo Central is a segment of AIESEC in Sri Lanka that
promotes youth leadership development by providing
cross-cultural opportunities for young people to positively

Excellentia 2022 Excellentia is the most glamorous award ceremony that awards the
hard work, commitment, and contribution of the members of AIESEC in
University of Colombo to recognize future young leaders and inspire
them to be great leaders. Excellentia 2022 was held on January 28th,
2022 appreciating and encouraging the hard workers of AISEC
University of Colombo throughout the year 2021. This year, it unfolded
with over 100 members and 7 important guest’s speeches. The social
media coverage on Facebook was over 400 participants engaged with
us.

The awarding ceremony successfully began with several types of
awards in the categories of Emerging, Best, and Excellence awards.
Best Organizing committee president and Best team leader were some
of the highlighted awards on that night. Also in the Excellence
category, the awards were excellence in external relations, excellence
in finance, and excellence in information management. Emerging
iGTer, Emerging iGVer, Emerging oGTer, and Emerging oGVer.
Accordingly, many AIESECers were presented awards praising their
contribution to AIESEC in University of Colombo. Organizing committee
awards were presented for all the successful events that were planned
throughout the year base on the most sustainable event, the most
innovative event, the best new initiative, the best marketing campaign,
and a few more. The most outstanding awards were the “Emerging
young leader” award was won by Dilen Vihanga and the “Best Young
Leader” award was won by Gajaneei Ragupathi.

Our guest speakers Mr.Inoka C. Perera who is Senior Treasurer in
AIESEC in University of Colombo delivered an inspiring and meaningful
speech to the audience and Bhanuka Hathurusinghe who is Member
Committee President in AIESEC Sri Lanka were shared his leadership
experience and AIESEC journey with the audience. These two speeches
made Excellentia night more insightful.

When we come backstage our organizing committee of Excellentia Excellentia 2022
2022 did a huge role in the success of this event. With the organizing
committee president Induwara Pathirana, eleven more hard-working
organizing committee vice presidents covered the areas of finance,
logistic, marketing, delegates, and external relation helping Induwara
to find the path for a successful event.

There was another team behind the success of Excellentia 2022 a
success. They were none other than the partners of the event. The
organizing committee vice presidents for external relations and team
were able to raise partnerships based on four major categories known
as "Elite Partners", "Educational Partners", "Event Partners" and "Gift
Partners". More than 10 leading companies came with achieving
Excellenia 2022.

Excellenia 2022 was all about emotions, proud, achievement, and
entertainment. All the hard work of the organizing committee,
Executive Board, and the AISECers in AIESEC University of Colombo
made this event more glamorous this year.

International Career Fair 2.0 International Career Fair is an event organized by AIESEC in
University of Colombo to promote the internship and work abroad
opportunities that are available through the Outgoing Talent and
Teacher products of AIESEC. In 2021, it was held for the second
consecutive time with the hope of providing a wealth of knowledge
about the opportunities for Sri Lankan youth to go on a successful
journey in their career path.

The organizing committee was able to gear up for a successful
launch of ICF 2.0 as a two-day event on 9th and 10th December
2021, covering the most popular fields of the corporate world
today: Business administration, Business Development, Finance,
Engineering, IT, Marketing and Teaching.

When it comes to the Organizing Committee of this year's
International Career Fair 2.0, AIESECers from all the products of
AIESEC in University of Colombo were able to become a part of the
organizing committee. Accordingly, thirteen organizing committee
vice presidents were led by two organizing committee presidents.
Isuru Nishadha, who was the organizing committee vice president
for International Relation in International Career Fair 1.0 which was
held in 2020, was selected as one of the two organizing committee
presidents, and Pavani Mandira who was also a part of the
International Career Fair 1.0 organizing committee was selected as
the other organizing committee president along with him. Other
than the Co-Organizing Committee Presidents, 13 hard-working
AIESECers gave their best to cover the areas of International
Relations, Delegates, Finance & Events, Marketing, and External
Relations to make this event a success.

Lishani Suriyampola and Nuwan Fernando who were the local
committee vice presidents (term 21.22) for outgoing global talent
product in AIESEC in University of Colombo were working as event
managers for International Career Fair 2.0. All the executive board
members of term 21.22 of AIESEC in University of Colombo
including these two event managers gave their maximum
contribution by providing advice, and guidance to the Organizing
Committee to achieve success for the event.

They were the silent heroes of the event and the backbone of the International Career Fair 2.0
organizing committee.

There was another reason for the event to be successful. And they
were none other than the event partners of International Career
Fair 2.0. When it comes to the partners of this event, those
partnerships spanned internationally and locally. Local partners
were the ones who gave monetary support for the event. Five
partnership opportunities called title, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and
Bronze were introduced for the event, and the organizing
committee vice presidents for external relations raised 6 partners
including one gold partnership, one silver partnership, and four
bronze partnerships.

Accordingly, Sanasa General Insurance company joined hands with
this event as the gold partner. Travel Trends leisure was the
company that contributed to International Career Fair 2.0 as the
silver partner. Furthermore, Imperial College of Business Studies
(ICBS), Classic Travel (Pvt) Limited, EVS Visa Services PLC, and
Avtrasoft Lanka (Pvt) Ltd partnered up as the bronze partners with
International Career Fair 2.0.

The organizing committee vice presidents for international
relations were able to bring in international partners of various
AIESEC organizations from Turkey and Malaysia on the 1st day and
from India and Vietnam on the 2nd day of the event.

On December 9th and 10th in 2021, we were able to see the
outcome of the hard work of the organizing committee and
everyone behind the scenes. As another AIESECer, I am happy to
say that the event was successfully concluded and all the efforts
became only a success. International Career Fair 2.0 was marked
as another great event in AIESEC in University of Colombo.

RevoLUX 2022 “Creating an interface is much like building a house: If you
don’t get the foundations right, no amount of decorating can
fix the resulting structure.”

And that foundation will be laid by none other than, RevolUX !!!

RevolUX is a UI/UX designation initiated by AIESEC in University of
Colombo in collaboration with the IEEE Student Branch of UCSC to
unleash the stylistic imaginations of Sri Lankan undergraduates and
schoolchildren. The main goal of this event is to expose
participants to various trends in User Interface and User
Experience design, as well as adjacent subjects, so that they may
grasp a problem and design a solution from the user's perspective
that meets the respective demands.

As you are all aware, RevolUX is not a new thing to AIESECers in the
University of Colombo. It has now become one of the biggest
events in the AIESEC calendar. So for the second time in a row,
RevolUX will take place, but in a different form. This time, all of the
fun and thrilling events will take place in person with the
participation of 200+ undergraduates and school children.

RevolUX 2022 will begin with an awareness session to provide an
overview of what UI/UX designing is. There will be two rounds for
this UI/UX designing competition. First round will be for project
proposal submission, following that will be the Designathon. Also
there will be a series of workshops going in the nick of time. The
RevolUX team has arranged amazing monetary prizes for those
who will thrive in the competition.

Great UI/UX designers are those who are meticulous, intelligent,
and extensive superheroes. So make sure you're bringing their
expertise to good use via RevolUX. Let's all get ready to have this
revolutionary experience with RevolUX !!

Insight 2022 | One Step Closer Insight is the most significant and the largest corporate day
organized by AIESEC in University of Colombo which will be the
best place for undergraduates to have a better understanding
and knowledge of the corporate sector. This year, "Insight" will be
held for the sixth consecutive time as a one-day physical event
with an expected delegation of 1000+ in the near future.

Insight 2022 will mainly focus on the areas of personal grooming,
entrepreneurship, and digitalization. Sessions will be conducted
by both local and foreign experts from specific fields while
creating a perfect opportunity for enthusiastic undergraduates to
broaden their career experiences in the corporate world with a
clear vision and proper guidance. And the delegates will get a
chance to meet the leading companies and clarify their doubts
related to the corporate world during the event.

Insight 2022 will recruit the leading companies in Sri Lanka as
monetary partners and in-kind partners to plan this physical
event while maintaining a good relationship with partners
throughout the event. There is a perfect opportunity for the
organizations to partner up with this amazing event as the
organizing committee is still in the process of raising partners.

The organizing committee of Insight 2022 is still in the initial
implementation stage of this outstanding event in the calendar of
AIESEC in the University of Colombo. They are working together
amidst a number of challenges to make an impactful event for

Who is Lakith?

I am Lakith Navodya, a second-year undergraduate at the Faculty of science. Currently, I’m
working as a team leader in the outgoing global volunteer function and the specialist of video
production in the marketing team of AIESEC in University of Colombo. Moreover, I can be
introduced as a person who likes to think differently and do something good for others.

What motivated you to become an AIESECer?

It makes me happy when someone is happy because of me and that's why I love volunteering.
In addition, I wanted to improve my professional skills as well as soft skills and I wanted to
overcome my weaknesses. For those reasons, I joined hands with AIESEC.

What do you think AIESEC is?

AIESEC can be described as one of the best platforms I have seen to improve and discover
the true leaders within us. The best quote I have ever heard about AIESEC is that it is like a
kitchen. You have to decide for yourself what you want to make. So, I think this is a place
where we can find our real identity.

What is Excellentia and why do you think AIESEC in
University of Colombo needs it?

Excellentia is one of the most glamorous events in the AIESEC in University of Colombo. It
encourages our membership to take a look back and see what we've achieved so far. I saw it
not as a celebration for the winners but as a haven for all the young leaders who want to
encourage and develop themselves.

What was your role in Excellentia Organizing Committee
and why did you apply?

I was one of the organizing committee vice presidents for Marketing. I did not have many
friends within AIESEC at that time. So I wanted to work with other AIESECers as a team and
network. The second reason was that our Former Local Committee Vice President for People
Management Devindi Wijesundara was an event manager of the event. I also thought it would
be easier to work with her since she was my ideal character in AIESEC and I have worked
with her before. Other than that, I wanted to improve my graphic design skills.

How did you manage your academic work with your
organizing committee works?

It was really hard because most of us in the organizing committee had two-semester exams
right after one week from Excellentia. But it was all about time management and prioritizing
work. First two weeks we managed to do both Academics and Organizing Committee work
together. We covered academic stuff as much as we could. After that, within the last two
weeks, we fully focused on our event. After the event, we had nearly a week to study, and at
that time we used it effectivel

What are the Challenges you faced by being on the
Organizing Committee?

I was new to video editing so I found it a little difficult to handle. There was a lot of work to be
done for the marketing team as the event happened virtually. And I was a shy person at the
time. All of this caused some kind of nervousness and doubt as to whether we could do all the
work.

How did you face and manage mentioned Challenges?

I learned to use new software and how to use those effectively. I always tried to do things in
the easiest way and prioritize Excellentia while managing other works. Our Organizing
Committee president Induwara Pathirana and my co-vice presidents for marketing helped me
a lot to step out of my comfort zone. So, it was easy for me to face challenges while building a
great with the Organizing Committee.

How was your experience on Organizing Committee?

I consider the chance of being on this Organizing Committee a charm for me. I was able to
develop my skills and expand my network in AIESEC. Also, I appreciate the help got from past
executive board members Hirusha and Akila. Current Local Committee Vice President for
marketing Abdullah Al Bahey also helped a lot for our marketing team in Excellentia. I also
should mention the support we got from our Event Managers Former Local Committee
President Sandeshi Bandaranayake and Devindi Wijayasundara. They were strict sometimes,
but it was their kind and motivating words that kept us going forward.

Finally, how did the opportunity develop you?

That was the moment I changed at AIESEC. I was a different person after this ceremony.
Therefore, this honor belongs to everyone on the organizing committee. I still live by the
energy that Excellentia put in me, and it was the spark of energy that lightened my AIESEC
career. I learned a lot about video editing and I believe it paved the way for my current role in
the marketing team in AIESEC in University of Colombo.

OceanBiome 16

Batticoloa, Sri Lanka              

OceanBiome is a community of talents focused on ocean
research, intending to pave the way for the next generation of
leaders in Sri Lanka to engage in ocean literacy and
stewardship and become ocean ambassadors.

We at AIESEC at the University of Colombo are pleased to
announce that OceanBiome which is a network dedicated to
protecting Sri Lanka's ocean ecology has provided us with a
workspace for participants in the Project Aquatica Exchange.

OceanBiome has long collaborated with AIESEC in the
University of Colombo and will continue to work together to
make a positive impact on the world.

OceanBiome offers activities such as "Ocean
Education" which encourages ocean literacy among
the public, "Ocean Storytelling" which makes
everybody aware of the human acts that disrupt the
ocean ecosystem, and "Ocean Tech" with which they
seek technology-based solutions to protect marine
ecosystems and "The Ocean Community" to connect
local and international ocean-related experts,
scientists and organizations together.

For anyone interested, they have also created a marine
diversity teaching series, which may also be seen on their
YouTube channel.

The most important thing is that they constantly receive our
volunteers with warmth and leave a positive impression.
Volunteers had always found it fascinating to work according to
their job descriptions because the team of OceanBiome was so
flexible with their schedules. They exhibited such wonderful
hospitality to the volunteers that they refused to leave the
workplace until the realizations were finished.

Nobody was disappointed because all of the volunteers were
able to complete their tasks successfully till the conclusion. The
feedback was tremendous.

Induruwa Sea Turtle Conservation
Project & Sea Turtle Information Center

Sri Lanka

This ongoing project is situated in Induruwa, in the Southern Province of
Sri Lanka. The main purpose of the project is to incubate turtle eggs
and release the baby turtles to the sea. Apart from that, they show
foreign volunteers about the turtle hatchery.

Since turtle populations are attacked at all stage of their lives,both from
natural and human pressures and all species of sea turtle are now
classed as endangered.Without intervention,we may lose these
beautiful,ancient creatures from our oceans forever.These conservation
e orts aim to prevent further decline of the population and protect
turtles by ensuring viable nesting and feeding populations.

Induruwa Sea Turtle Project is one of the best opportunity providers,
according to AIESEC at the University of Colombo. They treated our
volunteers with incredible warmth and were extremely helpful. The
initiative was very exible with the scheduling so that the volunteers
could complete their tasks e ciently.

The project includes activities such as Collecting of Turtle
eggs from the beach, Safely hatching away the collected &
rescued eggs from predators before being released into the
sea at night - time, Providing treatments for disabled turtles
caught by shing nets, Raising the awareness of marine turtle
conservation needs at regional levels, Conducting
continuous studies on post - nesting migrations and biology
of marine turtles and Share tracking & ndings to relevant
authorities and contribute to the development of a regional
marine turtle conservation plan.

Also they’ve been planning some development activities too; to increase
number of tanks which they can do treatments for the turtles who are
disabled by shing nets, to buy water pumps to be bought to increase
the number of tanks, to place a fence for protection, to conduct
seminars and workshops for schools participating the parents also, to
conduct public awareness programs to prevent eating turtle eggs and
printing of lea ets and handbills project development are among them.

The project was praised by our exchange participants as per the
organization's dedication to this initiative, and AIESEC in the University
of Colombo is grateful to have our volunteers as part of their e orts,
hoping they will continue to do so.
