ELECTION

O ne of the most awaited and anticipated events in the yearly
AIESEC calendar is the Presidential Election. This year it was
held on the 26th of september with much excitement. The
esteemed external guests were, Mr. Sisitha Hewage - Country President
2020-21 of AIESEC Sri Lanka, Mr. Banuka Hathurusinghe - Country
President 21-22 of AIESEC Sri Lanka and Mr. Devin Perera representing
entity partner “Pearson Lanka”

Pearson Lanka is a core part of Pearson's global
Learning Technologies team which is an information
technology and services multinational company that
is the world’s leading learning company present in
more than 70 countries with over 41,000 people and
have contributed to software development, remote
infrastructure management services and technology
operations over its number of years of existence. Mr.
Devin Perera, A Technical Business Analyst working at
“Pearson Lanka” represented the company at the
Presidential Election external questioning segment.

The candidate who had applied for the position of President for the
years 22-23 and was facing the election was Lishani Suriyampola , who is
the current Vice President for Outgoing Global Talent - Business to
Customer. The election started off with the introduction of the chair for
the election and moved on to roll calls. We next took a look at the
candidate’s presentation before moving on to questions from members
and external parties and through the vote, Candidate Lishani
Suriyampola won and became the president elect 21-22 .

We managed to find the time to ask the elect president, Lishani
Suriyampola some questions regarding the election.

LET’S START OFF WITH YOUR AIESEC JOURNEY UNTIL NOW. HOW
WAS IT?

My journey as an AIESECer set off in November 2019, when I joined
AIESEC in University of Colombo, I held several positions including
member, team leader in multiple projects and finally the vice president
at the Executive Board of AIESEC in University of Colombo. I also held
several positions in organising committees of both local and national
opportunities initiated by AIESEC Sri Lanka which led me to explore a
new avenue of leadership experience. After applying for the Executive
board, I was elected as a Vice President which was the most challenging
and the most memorable experience I’ve gone through so far.

ANY PARTICULAR REASONS FOR RUNNING
FOR PRESIDENT?

It is through challenges that we grow and

strive for never-ending improvements.

AIESEC has put me in many challenging

situations in my life, which have always

pushed me out of my comfort zone,

strengthening me to seek my better self and

helping me to uplift the lives around me by

the impact we make on youth and the

society. Being a president of an entity is one

of the most challenging roles. It requires

immense strength, passion, and

responsibility in order to drive a team of

diversified young minds with different

attitudes, ideas, strengths, strategies, and

qualities while ensuring to provide them the

right experience and achieving the set goals.

Above all, I am passionate to be a part of this

entity and organization, which I fell in love

with, and to make sure that my team

experiences what I experienced and also to

Lishani lead them to a new avenue of opportunities,

which I did not get the opportunity to

experience .

WHAT IS YOUR VISION, AND YOUR
IDEAS AND THOUGHTS ABOUT THE
COMING TERM AND FUTURE?

I want AIESEC in University of Colombo to have a vision that triggers the
membership because it addresses what they need right now. The vision for
22.23 is, to ‘Induce the State of Flow’.

In positive psychology, ‘State of Flow’, also known colloquially as being in
the zone, is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is
fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and
enjoyment in the process of the activity.

Amidst all challenges we had to go through over the past years, our
organisation has been successful in diverse ways which made us win the
award for the most outstanding entity in term 20.21. Our entity needs to
maintain resilience in facing all the challenges that come its way. Hence I
plan to implement and execute projects that would guide this entity to
achieve our vision to facilitate experience cycles for youth to develop their
leadership.

LDS 9.0 Organized by
AIESEC in University of
Colombo for the ninth
consecutive time is a
leadership
development seminar
conducted to improve
the leadership skills of
University
Undergraduates.
This event is a full day conference that includes many sessions and
activities with the focus on developing leadership skills and improving
the engagements of AIESECers in the University of Colombo. Their
main goal is to encourage their membership to take on new
challenges that could help them to awake the leader within
themselves.

This time the LDS 9.0 has a dedicated well experienced Organizing
Committee consisting of thirteen members in total with the
guidance of Manusha Kandanarachchi as the organizing committee
president. It’s only a few more days to see the outcome of their hard
work and dedication towards this event.

Since this event has been conducted nine times, the Organizing
Committee has put a lot of effort in changing the way members see
the event. This thought
has led them to break
the boundaries
and make the
sky as their
limitation for
thoughts. Simply
put, they have
revolutionized
the LDS 9.0
with their
ideas.

The curse was getting stronger and Jumanji was facing its worst
years. Clorug the brother of Jumaji king whose evil as the devil
himself, with a heart full of jealousy and anger has captured the
King of Jumanji and cursed it's holy lands. This curse can only be
lifted by a group of true leaders. Will Asel and Craig be able to
form a group of true leaders? It’s a question that can only be
answered at the end of LDS 9.0

Other than the storyline that is building around LDS 9.0, this time there

is a Special Social Media Challenge open for all the delegates which

is powered by ACCA. Another new initiative that will lead the LDS 9.0

to be the best leadership development seminar there

ever was and will be. Aim of this challenge is to help

delegates strengthen their friendships and hopefully

make new friends. In a time where most of the

members don’t get to meet or see each other, this will

help them to tighten their bonds

The event is planned to take place on 10th

October and this event will be held as a semi-

virtual event where the delegates can gather

in separate places for the event

abiding all the safety measures

for Covid-19 allowing the

Caig membership to
meet each other after almost

two years being apart. Asel

Finally we must not forget to mention the dedication

of the Executive Board of AIESEC in University of

Colombo who’s been behind the Organizing

Committee in their every step from the beginning to

this very date guiding these young talented

individuals to the glory awaits them.
