Physical
Workshop

RevolUX is an Inter-University UI/UX Designathon
organized by AIESEC in Colombo Central and the
IEEE student branch of the University of Colombo
School of Computing. RevolUX aims to give
exposure to different trends in User Interface and
User Experience Design, and related fields to
university students all around the island.

This is the first physical event organized by AIESEC
in Colombo Central for the year 2022 and because
of that committee members went through lots of
challenges concerning organizing. RevolUX was
kickstarted officially on 11th June 2022 with the
initial awareness session about the UI/UX industry.
The session boosted the participation of over 300
delegates from various universities around the
island.

Part from the awareness session which
popularized the RevolUX 2.0 name among
the undergraduates, the competition
phase of the event is comprised of 3
knowledge-sharing workshops followed
by the 24-hour designathon which will be
happening on the 16th of July 2022. As of
now RevolUX 2.0 have 62 teams with
nearly 230 delegates.

EL FARO  | SUMMER EDITION 15

The first workshop of the event was held
physically at King George Hall, University of
Colombo, on the 26th of June for over 6 hours. The
workshop was a massive success with over 130
delegates and 500+ live streams on Facebook. The
speaker of the event was Mr. Suresh Wenuka
Godakanda who joined us as a courtesy to our
Title partner, Pearson Lanka Pvt Ltd. Strategic
approach to better designs (drive into the world of
user personas, journey maps, and paper
prototyping); was the topic of the guest speaker.

The hardest part of the event was the logistical
requirements, given that the event was physical.
They had to face some severe constraints in terms
of many things due to the current situation of the
country. Despite organizing one workshop and the
final designation physically, they had to be
prepared for the worst-case scenario as well,
which in this case was a virtual event.

But they were able to manage always to be
updated with the delegates' requirements with
constant communication with them.

Every month oGTers innovate new ideas for the functional meeting to keep the interaction among
members within the function. For month of june, set of amazing oGTers came up with a theme
called " INTO THE MAGIC".
Even though this time FM happened in virtual mode, oGTer had the best experience. So the
meeting started with jives and then came the check-in. The check-in question was if you have a
magical power what would it be? Members were excited with the check-in and interacted well.
After that they move to the first game called "guess the item". Here what happened was the
organizing committee picked a person randomly and sent him or her a message about the item
and then they had to act it out without taking , other members had to guess it. oGTers had so
much fun with the first game then came the second game called "guess the song". This is also an
interesting game since most of the people casually like music. So everyone interacted to their
fullest in this game as well.
Then LCVP gave some announcements to the oGTers. After that again there's a dare game. When
it comes to dares. It's always fun. oGTers had their own moment with this game. Final game was
"Guess the movie". Here the organizing committee gave a few emojis to the members and they
had to guess the movie referring to those emojis. For all the games there was a rating chart for
the members who gave the answer first. At the end of all the games three winners were selected.
Finally all the members say cheese for the memory for the month of June.

NAZIL24 SUMMEREDITION|ELFARO
Hi I’m Nazli from Turkey. I’m 24 years old and I have a huge
interest in climate change, ecology and biodiversity. So in
the month of June I came to Sri Lanka to participate in a
project called Aquatica in AIESEC Colombo Central to work
towards marine and aquatic animal protection.

When I first arrived in Sri Lanka I was super excited about
this journey. Especially because from the sky everything in
Sri Lanka looked really green and it was like a heaven. In
the first week we got the opportunity to participate in
various events and all the AIESECers took care of us. We
had an incoming preparation seminar where we tried
traditional Sri Lankan food and also went on a city tour
which was really fun for me.

On the second week we were taken to our working places.
My project had 2 parts because of the current situation and
I really enjoyed both of them. First I worked at an animal
hospital in Kaluthara and everything was nice. After 10 days
I changed my working place and reached my main project
which was to work at a Sea Turtle Conservation Center in
Induruwa. In there, the turtles I took care of, the nice people
I met and the beach was definitely a precious experience
for me. And actually right now my future plans are more
certain than in the past. Also these experiences helped me
to explore more of myself sometimes under pressure.

Then on the weekends I travelled a lot but I have to admit
sometimes travelling in Sri Lanka was very annoying
because of the fuel crisis. Even in that crisis I believe we did
our best. Before arriving I had a 'must-see places' list but
during the project it changed several times. Then in the last
week we had several events planned but had to
unfortunately cancel a few of them due to a political
situation. But I participated in a beach clean up with my
team and other AIESECers which was great.

In addition to all of that I believe I also gained amazing
friendships with some of the AIESECers in Colombo Central.
They were nice, helpful and lovely. Especially my team
Aquatica, I have to say was the best!

This experience was really fun and special for me. Sri Lanka
was my first trip to Asia and it was totally a good start. I
love Sri Lanka despite all the challenges I had to face. Also
working as a volunteer with an international organization
like AIESEC was definitely the right decision.

EL FARO  | SUMMER EDITION 27

It's time to hear from our beloved Spirits of

CC for the month of June on

their recognition.

Chathuni- IGV

I'm Chathuni Ranasinghe, currently a matching co-ordinator in iGV, member of the PM team
and an ER OCVP for LDS. This is my first time being selected for the spirit of month. AIESEC
was whole new experience for me. I got many opportunities to develop new skills as well
as to polish existing skills through AIESEC. Even though it has only been a few months
since I joined as a newbie, I have made many memories and friends that I would
cherish for the rest of my life. It's a pleasure and a great honor to be recognized
as a spirit in CC. I'm looking forward to many unforgettable memories, new
adventures and challenges.

Priyajan - iGV

As a total newbie to the AIESEC community, I did not have much of an idea about the role
AIESEC would play in my life when I joined it. It was a total mind opening and a brand new
experience for me. The professionalism and the works of it, though was quite new, helped

to bring me out of my shell and made me take up roles that I once would not have
imagined taking.Though it has only been six months, the many kind faces and the
abundance of knowledge which I managed to gain astounded me. Not to mention

the very kind and supportive leaders and members, who were always so
considerate, made me feel home and guided me when I was confused. In all

to be a member of the AIESEC family is something I can say out loud
with pride.

Pinsarie- IGT

I joined AIESEC last march from the summer induction and ever since my AIESEC journey
have taken some major turning points, some of which are being selected as OCVP Finance
for insight 2022 and also recently got appointed as a sales Team leader for the next peak.
While being extremely honored to be appreciated as the spirit of the month
for iGT, It has motivated me to keep giving my best to make CC proud. And
huge thanks to everybody who have helped me through this journey. Can’t
wait to see what’s next!

28 SUMMER EDITION | EL FARO

Muskiya- OGV

AIESEC CC, an amazing platform where I started exploring myself, finding my new versions,
and growing up with experiences. It's an epic feeling to get recognised among all CCers by

such CC. This is my second consecutive time to get selected for the spirit of CC
within this one peak for my function oGV. I'm so grateful for everyone's support,

guidance and love.

Ridmi-OGT

In my eyes, I see AIESEC as a place where we develop ourselves even without our own
realization. When I joined AIESEC, exactly 3 months ago I was a complete opposite person
where I didn't even know what I was capable of doing. But having look at myself now, and
looking at the little achievements I gained so far I feel so proud as to how I've changed
myself into. So being the spirit of the month is yet another great wonderful experience I
was able to gain in my AIESEC journey which I'm truly honoured of. This inspired
me to improve my competence even more. That's why I always think AIESEC is
both a place where many dreams are born and also realize.

Yashoda-OGT

This is the first time that I got selected as Spirit of CC, so I’m happy and grateful. I want to
thank LCVPs and managers of oGT for always guiding and inspiring me in this whole peak.

The summer peak was the turning point in my Aiesec journey where I was able to
be in two OCs and learnt lot of things which made me more confident.

Sajini- BD

First I would like to be thankful for recognising me as one of the Spirit of CC crew.I have
been working as a member of Business Development team for some period. As BD
team, we focused on different strategies where we can cope up with this
situation and tried to challenge the challenge. I hope our steps will help
for the BD function to be more and more successful amidst the situation.
Once again, I'd like to be thankful for this appreciation.

Sumidu - EM

Firstly, I’m going to use this as an opportunity to thank my team for supporting and guiding
me throughout my EM journey. This achievement won’t be an easy task without their
support.Anddddd thank you CC for appreciating my hard work, participation and
dedication. It really improved my enthusiasm and motivation to contribute more
and more.

EL FARO  | SUMMER EDITION 29

Dilen - Finance

Being in CC Finance team was something I always wanted to do. Last year I got rejected due
to the lack of knowledge and experience I had in Finance and then I did so many Finance
tasks within CC in many OCs so I got the exposure to field of Finance and finally I got
selected this time. I was appointed as the Finance manager for IGV function which is quite a
challenging role. Month of June was a busy month for me as since we had 5 Realizations so
that I had to track iGV expenses and more than that I had to train project OCVPs for
Finance to make them ready to work in their projects. Me and our LCVP Finance,
Gajaneei did the first on boarding session for OCVPs for Finance and then we
carried out a weekly Finance update meetings and training to make sure
everything is under all standards.

Nimesha - IM/DXP

I was not at all expecting to be selected as the spirit of the month for IM/DXP. I was
surprised as this is my very first time being selected as the spirit of the month. I'd like to

thank my beloved LCVP Induwara for his advice, support, and recognition.
This has inspired me to work harder and harder towards CC.

Gimhani - Marketing

Saying "hello" to everyone, I am Gimhani Raigama, an iGTer, and at the same time, a proud
CMTer. To be honest, It's my pleasure to be rewarded as one of the spirits in Colombo
Central for June. I consider that even this type of recognition can give a sparkle
to the betterment of our lives. Hence, this reward is always treated as a cheering
moment in my AIESEC journey. Once again, I'm thankful to everyone for
admiring and motivating me. My contribution to AIESEC in CC will always
come forward in a better way.

Pawandi - PM

It's an honour to be selected as Sprit of CC for PM but this recognition wouldn't be possible
without the support of my PM VP Shamin and the PM dinos. I would also like to specially
thank my MXP Team for their hard work throughout the month of June. Looking
forward to work hard in the upcoming months and bring CC to greater
heights.
