It is the mission of Art in the Atrium, Inc. to provide continuing art education for the Morris County
community, including school-age children, through exhibition and other means, so as to develop
an appreciation of fine art, especially African American art. Since its inception, ATA has proudly
exhibited African-American fine art in many venues throughout northern New Jersey. However, its
annual exhibition, the largest of its kind in the state of New Jersey, has been a successful showcase
of art by emerging and established artists, through alliances with the Morris County Board of
Chosen Freeholders, the Office organizations, small businesses, the public at large and, of course,
art lovers. ATA annually awards a scholarship to a promising visual arts student.

Dear Al and Regenia:
On Saturday October 28, 2017, The Hope Chest Scholarship Foundation will host its
Thirteenth Annual Black Tie Gala, "An Evening in Paris", at the Hyatt Morristown in
Morristown, NJ. This event serves as a major fundraising activity for the Foundation,
which provides educational funding opportunities to graduating minority high school
students who are residents of the State of New Jersey.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, we are pleased to honor you as
our 2017 Citizens of the Year and thank you for accepting our invitation. We are truly
delighted to recognize a founding member of the HCSF and to have the opportunity to
celebrate you and your accomplishments, while giving back to the community.
We request that our Honorees accept their award during the evening's program; an
acceptance speech of three to five minutes is desirable.
The Foundation looks forward to the Black Tie Gala. This year's themed event will be a
wonderful festive evening for our honorees and guests. There will be a cocktail
reception, followed by dining and dancing. We will highlight the achievements of our
scholars and honor the many devoted patrons and sponsors who have helped the
Foundation make available over one million dollars in scholarships to 477 students from
14 counties since its inception.
Our scholars are achieving their academic goals and moving on to become contributing
citizens in their communities. Their lives may have been drastically different if it were
not for Hope Chest and the support of generous people such as you. There is so much
potential in our youth and they deserve our continued support.
Thank you for your participation in this year's event and your continued contributions to
the Hope Chest Scholarship Foundation.
Sincerely,

13th Annual Black Tie Gala
10.28.2017
Good evening, Al and I are excited to share in this very special evening that highlights the outstanding role that the
Hope Chest Foundation plays in impacting the lives of New Jersey students with aspirations of matriculating full-time
at a post-secondary educational institution and in supporting the success of New Jersey college students in their
educational pursuits toward their chosen career paths.
Congratulations to Corporate Partner of the Year Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson.
Al and I both fully understand how precious it is to have this greater community recognize and embrace students who
have been blessed with ability but not the necessary financial resources to realize their full potential. That is what the
Hope Chest Foundation does well. This year marks The Hope Chest Scholarship Foundation’s 17th year as a charitable
organization dedicated to providing development training, seeking corporate internships and awarding over $1.3 million
in scholarships to graduating New Jersey high school seniors.)
Tonight, Al & I thank you for recognizing us as 2017 Citizens of the Year. As much as we appreciate this honor, we find
it necessary to take this time to recognize the members of the Hope Chest’s Board of Directors for the awesome work
they do. Board members are long serving volunteers who have worked hard to make the organization’s wheels turn so
that your donations have maximum impact. Would all members of the Hope Chest Board please stand? They truly
deserve our salute. Thank you all very much.
Regenia and I would like to specifically recognize Darren Fleming, Board Chairman and Event Chairs Dr. Judy Banks
and Clyde Jones who have worked tirelessly over the last year to make this evening a success. They are champions in
their efforts to make The Hope Chest live up to its mission each and every day. Thank you both for your hard work and
dedication.
Now, we recognize that success at this Gala tonight represents the Hope Chest’s ability to support scholarships for
deserving students of tomorrow. That is the goal - to RAISE money; to give more; to impact more. Friends, family
and colleagues, we encourage you to make a new or a renewed commitment to provide financial support to this
deserving organization. The mission of the Hope Chest Foundation is to help close the financial gap that prevents
many need-based New Jersey students from pursuing higher education. If you have contributed to the Hope Chest,
we sincerely thank you. If you have not, then please consider giving generously tonight and in fact, make it an
ongoing commitment. Might we suggest placing it on Your Bucket List.
Regenia and I are both very grateful to God for the opportunities that have been given to us. Because of His goodness
toward us, we have chosen to be accountable to our community. We realize that we are called to give back by sharing
our energy, our abilities, and our resources wherever we are: from Topeka to Thailand to Texas; from Los Angeles to
Louisville; from New Orleans to New Jersey to New York; or places in South Florida and North Georgia. Our commitment
to our community is unwavering.
So tonight, Regenia and I offer our thanks to the Hope Chest Scholarship Foundation for this tremendous honor and
to each one of you here, and those who are not but chose to give, for your continuing support of the Hope Chest
Foundation. And finally, we offer our sincere appreciation to those people in our lives that have supported us on our
journey and have helped to strengthen and encourage us through the years. You are appreciated, valued and loved.
We thank you all very much for this honor.
The Black-Tie Gala also serves as HCSF’s opportunity to celebrate the work of our
honorees, the 2017 Citizens of the Year and Corporate Partner of the Year.
These influential leaders work tirelessly, dedicating their lives to community service,
contributing time and resources to many organizations. Whether it’s engaging in
individual and community development, strategic planning or scholarship, they are
truly dedicated to making our communities better! Tonight we honor:..
