Adverb คือ

Adverb คือคำที่ทำหน้าที่ขยายคำกริยาและไม่ได้
ขยายกริยา (Verb) เพียงอย่างเดียว แต่ยัง
สามารถขยายคำคุณศัพท์ (Adjective) และขยาย
คำกริยาวิเศษณ์ (Adverb) ด้วยกันเองได้อีกด้วย

โดยส่วนใหญ่แล้ว Adverb จะเกิดจากการนำ
Adjective มาเติม –ly แล้วแปลว่าอย่าง… เช่น
willing เป็น Adjective แปลว่า ซึ่งเต็มใจ
เมื่อนำมาเติม –ly จะได้เป็น willingly แปลว่า
อย่างเต็มใจ
patient เป็น Adjective แปลว่า อดทน
เมื่อนำมาเติม –ly จะได้เป็น patiently แปลว่า
อย่างอดทน

เราจะสามารถแบ่ง Adverb ออกเป็นหมวดหมู่
ได้ดังนี้

1.Adverb of Manner คือ คำที่ใช้
อธิบายลักษณะ ท่าทาง อาการ
You are beautifully dressed.

คุณแต่งตัวได้อย่างสวยงาม (ขยายว่าแต่งตัว
เป็นอย่างไร)

The story ends happily.
เรื่องราวจบลงอย่างมีความสุข (ขยายว่าเรื่อง
ราวจบลงอย่างไร)

He speaks slowly.
เขาพู ดอย่างช้าๆ (ขยายว่าเขาพู ดอย่างไร)
** ส่วนมาก Adverb กลุ่มนี้จะบอกว่า
อย่างไร หรือพบได้บ่อยสำหรับการตอบคำถาม

2. Adverb of Place คือ คำที่ใช้บอกสถานที่
หรือคำที่ให้ความหมายเกี่ยวกับสถานที่

I’m just looking around.
ฉันแค่มองไปรอบๆ (ขยายว่ามองไปที่ไหน)

I wish you were here with me now.
ฉันอยากให้คุณอยู่กับฉันที่นี่ตอนนี้จัง (ขยายว่าอยาก
ให้อยู่ที่ไหนในตอนนี้)

3. Adverb of Time คือ คำที่ใช้บอกเวลา หรือมี
เรื่องของเวลามาเกี่ยวข้อง

Wow, we’re finally in Paris.
ว้าว! ในที่สุดพวกเราได้มาอยู่ที่ปารีส (ความหมาย
ประมาณว่าผู้พู ดอยากมาปารีสนานแล้ว และสุดท้าย
ก็ได้มา ซึ่งมีเรื่องของระยะเวลาเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้อง)

The bill must be paid today.
ใบแจ้งหนี้จะต้องถูกจ่ายในวันนี้ (ขยายว่า the bill
จะถู กจ่ายเมื่อไร)

4. Adverb of Frequency คือ คำที่ใช้
บอกถึงความถี่ หรือคำที่เมื่อแปลแล้วให้ความ
รู้สึกถึงความบ่อย บ่อยมาก บ่อยน้อย หรือ ไม่
เลย

I always feel blue on
Mondays.
ฉันรู้สึกเศร้าเสมอเมื่อถึงวันจันทร์ (เป็นการ
บอกว่าวันจันทร์ทีไรเศร้าตลอด)
We often hear that ants are
social animals.
พวกเรามักจะได้ยินอยู่บ่อยๆว่ามดเป็นสัตว์
สังคม (เป็นการขยายว่าเราได้ยินมาบ่อยละนะ)
It will never happen again.
มันจะไม่มีทางเกิดขึ้นอีก (ประโยคนี้พู ดถึงเรื่อง
ความถี่ นั้นคือจะไม่เกิดขึ้นอีก)

5. Adverb of Degree คือ คำที่ใช้บอก
ปริมาณ หรือ คำที่เป็นการเน้นย้ำ ส่วนมากจะ
ขยาย Adverb หรือ Adjective

It’s absolutely impossible for
me to go on like this.
มันเป็นไปไม่ได้อย่างแน่นอนสำหรับฉันที่จะทำ
ต่อไปแบบนี้ (ขยายความเป็นไปไม่ได้ เป็นการ
บอกปริมาณ ย้ำว่าแน่นอน)
Do you really wish that?
คุณปรารถนาสิ่งนั้นจริงๆหรือ? (ขยายความ
ปรารถนา เป็นการย้ำว่าจริงไหม)
It’s quite difficult.
