ABOUT UNIVERSITAS GADJAH MADA & FACULTY OF PSYCHOLOGY AIWEST-DR 2023 | 02 unsplash.com Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) was founded through the struggle for Indonesian independence. Established in the early period of Indonesian independence, precisely on December 16, 1949, UGM was designated as the National Center for Science and Culture to provide national higher education. The name Gadjah Mada signifies the spirit and legacy of Mahapatih Gadjah Mada, who successfully united the archipelago. This legacy is reflected in UGM's identity as a national university and cultural center. At its inception, UGM comprised six faculties: the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Today, UGM boasts 18 faculties, one Postgraduate School, and one Vocational School, offering numerous study programs. Ten years after the founding of Gadjah Mada University, a psychology department was added, originally part of UGM's Faculty of Education, established in the 1958/1959 academic year. Six years later, the UGM Faculty of Education merged with IKIP Yogyakarta, while the psychology department remained with UGM and was renamed the Psychology Department, led by the UGM Chancellor at the time. On January 8, 1965, according to a presidential decree, the UGM Psychology Department officially became the UGM Faculty of Psychology. Since then, the UGM Faculty of Psychology has been recognized as one of the leading psychology programs in Indonesia.

Yogyakarta is renowned as the center of Javanese culture and has the distinction of being governed by a leader known as the “Sultan”. The people of Yogyakarta are also known for their polite and friendly demeanor towards everyone. Among the special traditional foods that attract tourists are gudeg, pecel, sate, tengkleng, soto, and bakmi. Additionally, we recommend trying traditional cakes and snacks such as bakpia, geplak, yangko, peyek kacang, gethuk, and jenang. For those interested in traditional beverages, coffee and wedang are highly recommended. AIWEST-DR 2023 | 11 Pro Tip!: Install transportation apps (Grab, Go-jek, etc) to get flexible journey.
