Dear SFFL Members, en years ago I realized we were all entering new stages in our lives. Moves across state, even across country for some, marriages, kids, etc. I sensed a potential burden which left uncheck, could cost some relationships. So I felt the need to establish a vehicle that would encourage and force, quite frankly, we maintain these relationships. Even if it only meant once a year that would be enough. I decided Fantasy Football could be that platform as its competitive nature and camaraderie would foster that goal perfectly. Initially the league was made up of my Wedding Party, couple close friends, and one rando who almost actually won the first year. Since then GMs have come and gone but the heart of this league remained intact. To date there are seven original members, after a decade safe to say we did something right. For the five Non-OGs, some of us would have never even met if not for SFFL and I even talk to some of you more than the original. Shalom. Every change, every new wrinkle, every new GM selection was all made with the intent to grow this league even more and solidify my original goal. Even after 10 years I'm not done tinkering, and while some future moves may still give you red ears, just remember the intent behind them<3 With that in our 10th year we embark on our 11th season. Once again a Congratulations to Wax on his first championship last year, as an OG he waited a long time to hoist that trophy and I am sure it was well worth the wait. Hope all your RBs tear an ACL and Mush returns to glory. But at the end of the day....Lylab. On to 2023.... Message from Mush COMMISSONER LETTER Commish Vinny Mush Cent'Anni, T 02
2022 Year in Review 2022 Year in Review Migs and Du battled it out in the 2021 championship with the latter coming out on top. They continued their success in 2022 ending the year as #1 and #2 respectively. Migs earned the King of the Hill payout and the much coveted #1` PWR, in the past those two benchmarks meant a championship. Coming off his first draft ever, Manning had a surprising start of the year. It looked like the draft ignited a fantasy flame as he was very active in waiver wires and trade requests. Ultimately that fire burnt out and finished bottom 3. Hopefully that doesn't deter his 2023 campaign. LG had a rough start, so bad he brazenly mentioned in GC his wife cut off any goods until he start winning. The cut off worked as Wax climbed his way to a playoff spot over a 9 week stretched that changed the course of his franchise forever. Clegg, ever since winning in 2019, has had the same season. Start off hot weeks 1-2, claim he's gonna win it all again, slowly but surely fade into the basement. Mush like clockwork was wildly inconsistent, mismanaged start sit decisions, and made bad trades. All of which earned a missed playoff spot even though finishing 6th in standings because of the HOF 6th seed rule where last playoff spot goes to highest remaining points. Even though it worked against the commish this year, the benefit of this rule was highlighted as Art proved to be a more competitive match up in the playoffs. New year yet another change coming from the commish, this time in a dictator fashion by implementing an Auction Draft with no league poll. Auction was met with some blow back, mainly from Jody. It didn’t help the fact Jody dropped $88 on J Taylor who underperformed severely, cementing his distain for the auction style. With a date set a month in advance, Joe thought he would be able to manage a flight to Charleston AND draft remotely. Needless to say it did not go as planned. After a few selections connection was lost and for the remainder of the draft, Mush tried his best to help Joe but ultimately failed which lead to Joe’s 2nd consecutive Scallop. One reason Mush failed Joe, and himself, was his brilliant decision to run an Auction draft while drafting his own team at the same time. Red ears ensued with technical issues, time clock misfunctions, and $ left on the table. For the first time in 10 years Manning did not Auto Draft and in fact attended the draft in person giving SFFL its missing piece for live draft. A surprising active participant Manning held his own but did end up unnecessarily drafting four QBs. All in all, the new auction style was received very well outside of one member and one mis-managed mush. A 2021 repeat seemed inevitable with Migs and Du earning a first round bye. LG had other plans but had to start round 1 versus Elvin. Elvin talked a big game all year but Wax silenced him with Mahomes, Kittle, and McKinnnon each floating around a 30 spot. Jew, not to be forgotten, also won a tough matchup against the strongly rostered Art. Jew, #3 in standings but #2 in PWR, was like a freight train entering the playoffs. Each week he gained momentum and eventually was pushing for a bye towards the end, just missing the mark. While it took some time, he built a powerhouse. Using 94% of his auction money on 4 players was a gamble that paid off as his roster dominated late in the year. Jew, second to maybe only Wax, yearned for championship gold since entering SFFL. Each year for whatever reason the timing never lined up for him and 2022 unfortunately was no different. Scoring 154 points in Round 1, he barely broke 100 in Round 2 against the reigning champ ending yet another year in disappointment. Coming off his Round 1 victory against Elvin, Wax had the challenge of facing Migs who had back to back championship games, winning it all in 2020, a #1 PWR, and #1 seed. It seemed like a major obstacle to overcome this juggernaut. Thanks to a godly performance from Kittle and help from a Jalen Hurts injury, Wax upset Migs and then had to face yet another hurdle. Du entered his 3rd straight finals and was on course for the first back to back champ since 2017. A major injury to Derrick Henry threatened that feat however. Wax again did not miss the opportunity and thanks to a surprising Justin Jefferson disappearance left no question who the 2022 champ was. Elvin to Migs to Du was a heck of a mountain to climb to get his first Championship in SFFL. While timely injuries assisted, it in no way diminishes what Wax has accomplished. For the 5th year in a row a new champion was crowned. For the 4th year in a row it went to a legacy SFFL member. Draft Regular Season Post Season 03

ne word could describe Wax in SFFL, underrated. Lacking self confidence himself, it is easy to miss how he compares to other SFFL greats. This year began no different as many challenges arised right from the start. The biggest obstacle brought upon Wax was the chastity his own wife established due to another slow start. Contingencies were in place, the pressure was on, and against all odds he responded. With the newly established Auction Draft, LG had a strong roster but started the year 1-4 averaging 100 points/gm. Thus enacted the above gashual restrictions boldly shared by Wax in gc. Some key players were to blame early on. Etienne, a $5 keeper, look to be a steal started off quite. Kamara was no where near his old self. Mahomes was productive but when really needed in closer matchups didn't produced. Kittle was injured and out and if not for his WRs the season would be over. Other managers would have panicked at this point, especially being cut off from a delicate resource. But the lack thereof must have ignited a different focus as the next 9 games Wax went 6-3 and averaged 140 points/gm. Mahomes and Hill were fantasy mvps as expected. Kamara while not a consistent force, had weeks of dominance when needed most. Kittle returned to injury and just in time for a playoff push. ETN finally emerged to the workhorse he was thought to be and all of this happened at the exact right time. In addition to the main roster, key pick ups were made which ended up being the difference for LG. Watson rose as Rodgers favorite target. He was quite during playoffs but in the push leading up, he was crucial getting the points Wax needed to secure the playoff seed he ultimately would ride to the end. Mckinnon came off the street and put up studly playoff points scoring 32, 11, and 20 throughout the playoffs. While the resurgence was in swing, his playoff road was not going to be an easy one. Elvin ever since coming into the league talked a big game which LG didn't take lightly. An unofficial rivalry started which made this wildcard win poetic. Kittle exploded along with Mahomes and it was all Wax needed to hand Elvin his second playoff loss in a row and a $100 bet. 2 0 2 2 C H A M P I O N - L G H S Y A C H A D Wax was the fastest franchise to 50 wins (accomplished in 2019) Tied for most wins in a single season (11) 7 Playoff appearances, only second to Nick's 8 #2 in total Overall wins for all the years. Which is the best by any team who has been in since the beginning and only second to the Jew #4 in Regular Season Win % which is better than Migs and Jody He also has the record which will never be beaten, drafting the highest scoring Kicker for a season (2017) Round 1 was a nice win, but a juggernaut awaited in Round 2. The clear #1 PWR vying to reach the finals for the 3rd year in a row. Migs would without a doubt be a challenge and an uphill battle. A Jalen Hurts injury opened up a pathway to victory and again Mahomes and Kittle showed up to give Wax the edge he needed. The peaks and valleys of fantasy were highlighted in this matchup as the #1 team for 14 weeks lost to a team who couldn't even fornicate 10 weeks prior. Timing was on Wax's side. Du entered his 3rd straight finals and was on course for the first back to back champ since 2017. A major injury to Derrick Henry threatened that feat however. Wax again did not miss the opportunity and thanks to a surprising Justin Jefferson disappearance left no question who the 2022 champ was. LG might be a name forgotten in the history books but this hardware will shine a light on his SFFL career. Wax has made the ship before, but faced an inevitable dynasty losing to Jody. Timing was not on his side that year. In 2018 he lost to Manning in the playoffs by 1.60 points, to Manning... Timing definitely was not kind that year. Prior to winning, Wax had every measurable in Dynasty ranks to keep up with top except one important missing detail. With that now in the picture it is easy to see why he rose 6 power rank spots for the Dynast Ranks. We all know Fantasy is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill Fifteen percent concentrated power of will Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain And a hundred percent reason to remember the name. It took nine seasons to finally get Daniel Manning to attend a live draft. Last year was by far the most participation we seen from him which prompted this sit down with the most interesting GM in SFFL. We talked about his history with Auto Draft, meeting fellow members, and what lead him to his first attendance. A Sit Down with Mush 2022's Most Interesting GM 09
Did attending the draft change your in season approach? On that note, since this was your first time meeting most people in SFFL, who were you most excited to meet. Art without a doubt, he was endlessly entertaining. Talking to himself during the draft, making comments, he was fun to meet. Who's the other Jew, not my Jew, I liked him too. (Referring to Waxman who I mentioned is in fact not Jewish) He's definitely Jewish without a doubt. I was disappointed in Elvin, I expected more shenanigans from the keyboard warrior. I felt more invested, little more engaged overall. I asked that because I noticed more waiver claims, a ton more trade requests. Definitely, more than anything I think I like to fuck around and grind gears. Getting to see who takes it seriously, who has grand plans and how I can mess up those plans. That is what I enjoy most in Fantasy. Think I should talk to a therapist about that, add to the laundry list of other things I need to clear up. You did start off hot but than faded towards the end. Being more engaged, did that affect you mentally more than it normally would. Yes, I drank more, I gambled more, I started to spiral. Being more attentive, did you have any lessons learned from last year? Only drafting 1 QB this year for sure. That and more cautious of injuries, think if I didn't get hit with the bug or managed more I would have been a playoff caliber team. Yes, one other league with family members who I actually don't speak with anymore, for a variety reasons. I attended a few of those. Anything for you baby. Did you do any prep for those drafts? Appreciate your time for this interview. Last year was your first live draft. Have you ever attended a live draft prior? Never. Due to the falling out I switched to Auto and ended up winning 3 times. Is that why you Auto drafted in SFFL? Yea, first I think its a successful approach but more importantly when I win it pisses people off which I enjoy more than actually winning. So did you do any prep last year? Bare minimum. You pointed out the SEC method (in Team Profile) that is as far as a prep I go since I watch all those games. Were there any expectations for attending the live draft? It was exactly what I expected, a cluster fuck. A ton of confusion by you, people bidding against themselves, (Referring to Clegg increasing his own bid unprompted), and a couple drunk people. I have a suggestion as I would have liked to seen more weirdos in attendance. Get more of those people in the league. Like degenerates? No not that kind, like wack pack types love more wack pack members. One last question. Who is the greatest commissioner and why is it me? Lot to unpack there. You are more engaged, maybe more than Roger Goodell and Jay Monahan. Someone who can corral a bunch of mutants and do so enthusiastically, without much participation in return for a lot of years. Very commendable. Patient with all of us mutants and are able to keep excitement even with lack of participation. I think since fatherhood you stepped up a lot, probably because this is a few if any outlets (fair). Many can't duplicate your empathy, humor, and organizational skills throughout the year for every year consistently. Thank you for those kind words. I meant most of them. 10

I think I started putting in more significant homework pre-draft but it’s probably mostly luck. Did the most prep last year with the auction, plugging the data/values from sleeper into another calculator which weighs positions, avg values, etc to spit out a value bid amount. Stuck to that pretty heavily which is a big reason I took Hurts and Sanders as early as I did. One key I've noticed is you have been able to identify QBs the year they break out (Allen 2020, Herbert 2021, Hurts 2022). What do you contribute that to? Why is that? No one to blame but myself, to narrow it down it comes down to management. You could be talking to a 3 time winner if I played the right line ups or didn't panic trade every mid season or mush every player I ever had. How does it feel to put all this effort into the league and not be rewarded. End of the day what's best for the league is best for me as highlighted in this year's Mush Message. When the league is active there's nothing better, as long as a commissioner I improve that, I'm winning. So to answer your question I feel like a clown. Any changes for the upcoming year. t was expected, but how this back to back Clegger was crowned is the ultimate Clegger/Mush in itself. Planning for a fantasy draft amongst 12 individuals stretched across the country is nearly impossible. The fact we’ve done 10 drafts in as many years deserves a tip alone. Bta.... It’s inevitable one or two members will have issues on draft day and 2022 was no different. Our newlywed tried hard but after the draft date was agreed upon, there was no way to avoid a trip to Charleston with the new bride. Even with the trip however, it was assumed an internet connection would suffice to participate. The issue would come down to the timing of said flight, dependent upon check-in, boarding, etc. would determine availability. To complicate things further, a new wrinkle was added in 2022 which was an Auction Draft. Had this occurred in the past, a snake draft would have been easier to auto preventing catastrophic consequences. Auction draft being a new format for the league would end up being near impossible to Auto making Joe's presence crucial. Of course once the draft started murphy's law kicked in. Joe had access at the start but a conservative approach was taken which allowed key players to go off the board. After about 20 minutes of drafting went by suddenly there was radio silence. As Joe boarded the plane the internet connection was lost and no contact was to be made for the rest of the night. The Commish tried his best to compensate but running the first auction draft prevented an attention span to focus on drafting two teams. Misses were going to happen, and boy did they. Writing was on the wall before season even started. Joe tried his best but even the greatest fantasy player would have struggled with this team. Ending the year with 5 wins, including the median, the scallop looked like it was staying on Ridgewood for another year as Clegger Bowl ensued. 2 0 2 2 C L E G G E R - J O E Y S A N T I N O I Joe found his way as expected in the Clegger finals against Jody, the 2020 Clegger. Both Scallop hot. Jody took an early lead but Joe came climbing back and had two players entering Monday night to over come a 19 point deficit. One of which, Tee Higgins, could‘ ve alone pushed Joe for the Win and avoid a consecutive scallop. Even after such a disastrous year, there was actually light at the end of the tunnel. Until the unthinkable happened. Damar Hamlin, safety for the Bills, took a shot to the chest in the 1st quarter, collapsed, and had a cardiac arrest. It looked like at that time we just witnessed a televised death which prompted the game to be cancelled. While eventually Damar recovered, this incident had a major fantasy impact as the cancellation occured on a week most leagues determine both Champions and Last Place finishes. This issue at the time was the unknown, whether or not the game would be pushed to a later date, a later week, or not even played at all. Unprecedented, decisions had to be made across the Fantasy landscape as what would have occurred will never be known muddying the results. While most leagues needed to determine a winner in the championship game which involves payouts and bragging rights, ours had an unresolved Clegger tied to punishments and pity. Had the game resumed that night it is very likely Joe would have avoided the a scallop for the second year in a row, a feat not seen since the namesake himself 3 peated. But without the game being played out the options were limited in finalizing this ordeal. After consideration, the decision was placed on the two contestants to come to an agreeable outcome. It was agreed the Clegger Bowl would be final as is and thus earning Joe his second scallop. This is, and probably will remain, the most Scallopiest, Mushiest, and Cleggiest way a Clegger will EVER be determined in the history of Clegger's past, Clegger's present, and Clegger's yet to come. And for that reason The Scallop remains in Ridgewood's bathroom. 32
