Howzit all you bnei buzzers

Hello there fam! Or should I say Chag Purim Sameach! Can’t believe what a power Puzza Bnei held this year…. From
the Gurim #Ganstas insane carnival to the sick street party for all the shichvahs after the beautiful megillah reading it
was just the most incredible night filled with fun, food and of course gees. Who can forget all those sick Purim outfits
were seriously fitted to the situation – each shichvah truly out did themselves for the theme #RoimRabbits
#MoledetM&Ms #DorotDancers. You guys all really did bring such a vibe to make this Purim one filled only with
happiness and joy! Keep it up! And special thanks and shoutout to the hard working Bnei teams that made these
events the power they were!

It is not a glamorous job, but somebody has to do it. And so, the Torah begins this week’s portion by telling us the
mitzvah of terumas hadeshen, removing the ashes that accumulate from the burnt-offerings upon the altar. The Torah
teaches us: “The Kohen shall don his fitted linen tunic, and he shall don linen breeches on his flesh; he shall separate
the ash of what the fire consumed of the elevation-offering on the Altar and place it next to the Altar” (Leviticus 7:3).

What is simply derived from the verse is that the service of ash-removal is done with the priestly tunic. What is
noticeable to the Talmudic mind is the seemingly innocuous adjective “fitted.” Rashi quotes the origin that applies to
all the holy garments: they must be fitted. They cannot be too long, nor can they be too short. They must be custom-
made to fit each individual Kohen according to his physical measurements.
Roberto Clemente was an amazing athlete who played the game of baseball with utmost dedication. One day, late in
the 1968 season, he was playing outfield against the Houston team. The Pirates ( his baseball team) were no longer
competitors, and the game had no statistical meaning.

A ball was hit deep toward the outfield wall. As Clemente raced back, it seemed that the ball was going to hit the wall
way over his head. With superhuman strength he propelled himself like a projectile toward the wall. Speeding at a
forty-five-degree angle he collided with the wall while the ball hit it at the same time, two feet above his head.
Strictly following to the laws of nature, both Clemente and the baseball rebounded from the wall, the former’s return
to earth much less graceful than the latter. While the white sphere gently bounced to the playing surface and rolled
toward the infield, the much larger uniformed and spiked entity came crashing after it with a resounding thud.
In the post-game interview, an innocent reporter asked Clemente, “Roberto, your team is out of contention. Why in
the world did you try so hard to make that play? Was it worth bruising yourself?” Clemente was puzzled. In a few
short sentences he explained his actions. “I am not paid to win emblems. My job is to catch the ball. I tried to catch
the ball. I was trying to do my job.”

When the Torah tells us that the clothes must fit perfectly for a service it is telling us that the job is exactly right for the
man who is doing it. The ash-cleaner is not doing another Kohen’s job, wearing an ill-fitted garment as if it were
thrown upon him as he entered for the early morning shift.
What seems to be the most trivial of jobs is the job that must be done! That is the job of the hour, and that is exactly
what the Kohen is designated to do. And for the job or service that is tailor-made for the individual the clothes must
also be tailor-made for the job as well!
Whatever we do, and however we do it, we must realize that the end can only come through the menials. Whatever
it takes to get to the goal is as integral as the goal itself. It requires devotion and commitment, and it requires self-
sacrifice. If you dress with dignity to collect the ash, if you approach every task with both with dress and personal
pride and grace, then you are certainly up to any task. This was defiantly proven at the Purim events held by Bnei this
year! Not only did everyone came dressed to support their shicvah but they most certainly did it with pride!

shabbat Shalom, Peace and Love to all you incredible souls!

HACHSHARA 2019

Parshat Tzav

In this week’s parsha- Parsha Tzav- we are taught about the Korban Todah which was the
Thanksgiving offering that was brought to Hashem for numerous reasons such as;
recovering from a serious illness and being freed from jail. This korban was mandatory to
bring but it had to be brought with a recognition of the need to thank Hashem for the
miracle that the person experienced. In order to say thank you to Hashem for something
great, one would offer a Korban Todah. Every day in Pesukei DeZimra we recite, with joy,
Tehillim 100 which is the Psalm of Thanksgiving which reminds us that we have to be
grateful to Hashem for all that he gives us, saves us from and blesses us with.

The Korban Todah included 40 loaves of bread and meat and then consuming them in a
short period of time. And thus the obvious question arises- how can so much bread be
consumed by one individual in such a short period of time?

The Sforno says: “By having a lot of bread, the miracle will be publicized to the many
eaters, and all are eaten in the time frame of kodshei kodoshim which is a day and a
night.” This means that the Korban Todah was consumed by numerous individuals and not
by someone alone.

The enormous amount of food that had to be consumed is the main purpose behind this
korban. The purpose of the Korban Todah was to tell and show others that Hashem
showers us with goodness and brachot all the time. And thus, including numerous
individuals in the consumption of the korban would enable everyone to share in the
simcha and thanksgiving that Hashem deserved. By including many people, Hashem’s
giving nature would be acknowledged by many. What emerges from the Korban Todah is
that it is so important to publicize miracles and thus the more participants that are at the
meal- the more the miracle will be publicized.

From this we can learn that we must all join together to acknowledge and thank Hashem
for all that he does for us. We, Am Yisrael, have so much to thank Hashem for but we
have to do so in a united force.

Who do you want to be? Us in grade 10!

Even though it’s not one of Purim’s mitzvot, dressing up as anything you could
ever imagine became one of the strongest traditions of this holiday, and it is
definitely an awesome one! How great is this feeling that starts around T”u
B’shvat, knowing that you can start think what are you going to be this purim.
There is something very special about this once in a year opportunity to choose
to be anything you can only dream of.
And maybe there’s a reason why we are getting this opportunity especially on purim.
We are now pretty much in the middle of our Hebrew year, between last
Rosh Hashanah and the next one. Perhaps this is just the right time for us to
stop for a moment and check if we are doing what we planned to do. To ask
ourselves, and really mean it, who do we want to be.
