Letter from the Editor
Hello all you bnei buzzers
I hope you had a beautiful week and have a fantastic, well deserved long weekend. I hope
you get rested up and ready for the rest of the term and exams. Winter Camp and Hadracha are just around the corner... so get pumped people! ! !
“הוֵֹ֤כַחתּוִֹ֨כיַ֙חֶאת־ֲעִמיֶ֔תךָוְ;ֽא־ִתָּשׂׂאָעָ֖ליוֵחְֽטא“
“You shall reprove your fellow and do not bear a sin because of him.”
Story:
Daniel was on a luxury cruise ship when he heard a loud banging noise coming from the cabin next to his. He went to the hall and saw that the cabin door was open, so he went in. He saw a man banging on the floor. Daniel asked him "What in the world are you doing?" The man replied "I am making a hole in my side of the boat." Daniel gasped, "You are what?!" The man replied, "I am making a hole! I paid for this cabin, so I can do what I want here, it's none of your business!" Daniel then said gently to the man "Listen Sir, we are all on this boat together; if you go down, we ALL go down..."
When the Torah mentions the commandment to rebuke a fellow Jew, it ends with the words, 'And do not bear sin because of him.' However, the Targum translates it as 'And do not receive a punishment for his sin’.
The Targum is teaching us that all Jewish people are unified. If a Jew sins and you could have prevented it, then you get punished for his sin as well.
My actions affect you and your actions affect me- we are one unit!
The Chofetz Chaim writes that when someone dies, Hashem may say to him "Why didn't you keep Shabbas, learn Torah and say brachot?"
He will reply, "Me?! I observed ALL those mitzvot?!" But because every Jew is responsible for every other Jew, you bear another's sin if you didn't try and correct him.
Each of us is obligated to reach out and bring others closer to Hashem! 'And United We Shall Stand'

A Vort in short HACHSHARA 2018
Matters of ‘life’ and ‘death’
(Based on the class ‘Growth from Parsha’ by Rav Yonny Sack)
וַיְ ַד ֵ֤בּר ,This week’s parsha, Acharei Mot- Kedoshim, -opens up with the words ‘יְהוָֹ֙ה ֶאל־מֶ֔שׁה ַאֲֽחֵ֣רי֔מוֹת ְשֵׁ֖ני ְבֵּ֣ני ַאֲֽה֑רֹן ְבָּקְרָבָ֥תםלְִפֵנֽי־יְה֖וָֹהוַיָֻּֽמתוּ: According to Rashi, the death of Nadav and Avihu, Aharon’s sons is mentioned here to teach us that they died for the sin of entering the Kodesh Kodashim, the holy of Holies. Why is this such a serious sin? And why is Aharon commanded not to enter this holy place all the time? Rashi teaches us that the issue with entering the Kodesh Kodashim too frequently is that you would become accustomed to entering it. The problem Aharon could have, the problem Aharon’s sons seemed to have had and the problem we face today is getting too used to things. The Torah warns us that this kind of complacency could lead to death- “Velo Yamut” In our case, not a physical death like Nadav and Avihu but rather a spiritual death, the extinguishing of our flame of passion.
Pirkei Avot (1:4), teaches that we should drink with thirst the words of our sages, the Torah they teach. Torah is like water. A person only wants water, only enjoys water when you’re thirsty. You have to create a thirst for Torah within yourself, or else, it will become bland. Your consistency will breed complacency and if you don’t fuel your connection, you run the risk of starting to despise your Judaism- a result tantamount to death.
After opening up with ideas of death, this weeks parsha also contains the famous words, ‘Vechai’ Bahem’ and you shall live by them. We need to infuse meaning into our Mitzvot, rejuvenate our Judaism and reignite our passion. If we do this, we will truly be able to live by them.
