“All their countings were six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty.”

A man passed away and left over a will for his children. The will stated that in a certain town on a
particular street he had left 10 million dollars buried there. The sons immediately gathered up
the necessary equipment and set out for that town. After much effort they found the exact street
and began digging. They dug and labored for several hours but they turned up empty handed.
They continued digging for several days and all they found was a few hundred dollars. Their backs
were aching and their hands were sore but they did not give up; they kept on digging. They were
sure that all the money was there; it was just a matter of time until they would find it.

One may think, "Even if I toil and learn Torah sincerely I will never get anywhere. Studying Torah is
just not my thing." But the truth is that there is a portion in the Torah that resonates with every
person. It may be buried deep down but it's there. If you have not yet felt any connection with
Torah it means that you haven't dug deep enough. You need to keep on digging! It is for this
reason that this week's Torah portion is always read immediately prior to the holiday Shavuot.
The portion mentions an accounting of the Jews to show us that each and every individual is
significant and has a portion in Torah.

Each person has their own way of thinking and their own way of looking at things. There are so
many paths and so many angles in Torah that there isn't a single portion in Torah that a person
can't have a natural love for. God created the Torah for us to connect with him, so there must be
parts and places in there where that connection will happen.
May you take this idea into Tikkun Liel learning and find what ‘your portion’ is!

(Adapted 1 minute vort @ Weekly Positive Word Power Ideas :
aish.com) We as individuals should never give up
looking for what inspires us- because who
knows, it could be around the corner so
keep searching

During our Bnei Mifkads, the person running it says “Hashem Imachem” (“May God be with
you”) and we’ve all just become accustomed to respond “Yevarechecha Hashem” (“May
Hashem bless you”).
To be honest, I’ve never really thought much of it- but surely there’s a significance behind it?
Why do we do it?

The origin of this exchange is the story told in Megillat Rut (2:4), which we read now, on
Shavuot, of Boaz’s arrival at his fields. He greeted his workers with the wish “Hashem
Imachem,” and they responded “Yevarechecha Hashem.”
We know that the Tanach only includes that which teaches a vital lesson relevant for each
generation- so what lesson is imparted by recording how Boaz greeted his workers and how
they replied?

I found three fascinating and super important lessons from Boaz’s interaction:
Snub snobbery: Ibn Ezra simply explains that it was a friendly greeting. This may seem to some
of us that its not the most profound lesson, but to me- it is. This friendly exchange between
Boaz, the wealthy landowner, and his labourers shows his loathe of pretentiousness and
feeling superior to one in a lower socioeconomic class. No matter who we are, how popular,
wealthy, smart or great we are- we are never superior to any another human being.
Hashem is here, there & everywhere: Malbim teaches that Boaz issued a decree that people
should greet each other with Hashem’s Name. This was done as a reminder that Hashem is
watching and is with us at all times and all places. It is said that we should know Hashem in all
our ways, B’kol Derachecha D'aiyhu- and this sets as a reminder that every little action we are
doing (even the most mundane ones), should be done with a good and holy intention and
according to Hashem’s ways.
24/7 surveillance: Dr. Yael Ziegler says that this is not as simple as an exchange of pleasantries.
She suggests that Boaz is inquiring about his worker’s adherence to Jewish law, whether or not
they are following halachot of the fields. When his workers respond to Boaz’s query with “God
shall bless you”, he can be reassured, because this response recalls a verse that outlines the
reward for observing the laws related to poor people in the fields: “When you harvest… your
field, and you forget a sheaf in the field, do not return to retrieve it, it shall be for the stranger,
orphan and widow, so that God shall bless you in all of your endeavours”. This exchange serves
as a reminder that we should constantly be checking ourselves that we are keeping halacha
and doing what the Torah wants of us- and if we do, Hashem will be with us.

So, every time we say these words at our Bnei Akiva gatherings, we can now be aware of these
3 vital lessons: Spurning snobbery, recalling Hashem’s constant surveillance, and periodic
examination as to whether we are living up to the Torah’s ideals.

Yeshiva is

Yeshiva is the ultimate balance of Torah learning and living the Israeli nightlife culture.
With days filled with Gemara and interesting shiurim. This time gives us an opportunity to

explore our Judaism and empower ourselves to better understand ourselves through a
religious lens and connect with Hashem on a spiritual level. In partner with this is an
opportunity to put our learning into use during our nights in Jerusalem with the boys. It is
the ultimate experience to be in this 3000 year old city with our best mates, spending
quality time with the boys while also exploring and deepening our religious connection. It

is such an inspirational and social time.
