a message from our executive director

Dear Friends,

Some of the most profound moments I have experienced at My New Red Shoes
have been those spent with the children and families we serve. The opportunity
to learn their stories, share in their joy as they open our gift bags, and witness the
impact that you – our community of caring and generous supporters and partners –
have helped to make possible is a privilege.

Kayla, an elementary school student who we served this summer experienced the
loss of everything she owned and loved, including her clothes and shoes, following a
devastating fire that pushed her family into homelessness. Without the resources to
provide her daughter with proper shoes and clothing, Kayla’s mother worried that
she would not be able to send her daughter to school at the start of the year. Kayla
worried that her classmates would see that she was homeless and was anxious
about making friends and fitting in. But thanks to the generosity of supporters like
you, when the doors to her school opened in late August, Kayla was able to skip into
class outfitted in her brand new shoes and clothes and take her seat alongside her
peers. With a smile on her face, Kayla was proud, happy, confident, and ready to
learn and make new friends!

Since 2006, My New Red Shoes has helped to improve the educational experience
and quality of life for more than 35,000 children and youth, just like Kayla, who are
struggling with homelessness and poverty. Beyond filling a critical and unmet need,
what we so often hear from the children and families we serve is that our gift fills
them with the comfort of being embraced by a community that cares and gives
them hope for the future.

On behalf of Kayla and the thousands of children and families who benefit from our
simple gift of confidence and compassion each year, thank you for your support. As
you read our Annual Report, I hope that you take pride in how your investment of
time, friendship and generosity has made a remarkable difference in our community
this past year.

The mission of My New Red Shoes is to help homeless and low-income children look and feel
confident as they start the school year by providing them with new clothing and shoes and
rallying youth and adults around this effort through volunteer and educational opportunities for
individuals, families, schools, corporations, and community groups.

about Clothing
for Confidence

My New Red Shoes assists children living in
poverty by providing them with new, school
appropriate athletic shoes and the opportunity
to shop for new clothing so that they may start
the school year feeling confident and ready
to learn.

Every student receives his or her personalized
gift in a fabric bag that has been lovingly
sewn by a volunteer. Inside each gift bag is a
handwritten note from a volunteer wishing him or her well.
For children who are feeling disconnected, this simple gesture
can have a profound impact.

My New Red Shoes cultivates FY 2015 Snapshot Outcomes
compassion by connecting the
broader community to our mission 3,696 volunteers of all ages
and the children that we serve provided 7,251 service hours
