Weekend at the Farm Zikri gets up very early on Saturdays and Sundays. After breakfast, he waits at his house for his friend, Ruhan, to arrive. The boys then cycle to the farm that belongs to (0) uncle. They go there every weekend. Once they arrive, the boys help harvest the vegetables. Nagoro Doll Village Nagoro Doll Village is a small mountain village located on the island of Shikoku in Japan. The village is just like any other village, except that most of the inhabitants are dolls! Ayano Tsukimi, the dollmaker, was born in this village but she moved to Osaka when she was very young. Twenty years ago, she decided to move back to the village to look after her sick father. She realised that the population in her village was slowly decreasing. Many older people had died and their houses were left empty. The younger inhabitants had to move into towns and cities for work. Ayano decided to replace the people who had left or died with life-sized dolls. She wanted to remember Nagoro in happier times. Ayano is a skilful dollmaker. She takes three days to complete a doll. Newspapers, cotton, buttons, elastic fabric, wires and paint are used to make the dolls. The finished doll is then dressed in old clothes. There are more than 400 dolls everywhere in her village. Visitors can see dolls in the field, fishing, at the bus stops and sitting along the roads. There are also doll students listening to their doll teacher in a classroom. The dolls now are a very popular tourist attraction. Ayano also organises the annual doll festival in Nagoro. It is held on the first Sunday of October.

Teenage Olympians China hosted the 2022 Winter Olympics (officially called the 24th Olympic Winter Games) in Beijing in February. People like to refer to it as Beijing 2022. Spectators from all over the world were surprised to see so many teenage participants. Perhaps they expected all the Olympians to be older people. Actually, there isn’t any age limit set for Olympians. Participants competed in figure skating, snowboarding, freestyle skiing, speed skating and ice hockey. It was definitely a scary experience for teenagers as they had to compete with older people who were the best and most experienced athletes in the world. Nevertheless, they took part for the chance to stand on the podium with a gold medal around their neck and listen to their national anthem being played. This came true for Russia’s figure skater, Anna Shcherbakova. Born in Moscow on 28 March, 2004, she started skating when she was just three years old. She won her first gold medal at the 2016 Russian Youth Championships. In 2017, Anna broke her arm and could not take part in the championships. Sadly, she broke her leg later that year while training and had to take a long break from sports. After she recovered, she took part in many international figure skating competitions. In 2021, she won a gold medal at the World Team Trophy in Osaka, Japan and then won another gold at the World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm, Sweden. On 20 January, 2022, Anna Shcherbakova joined the Russian Olympic team. She took part in the women’s singles figure skating event at the 2022 Winter Olympics and won gold.
