PBD 2 Reading

A Read the description of George Town in Penang. Then answer the questions.

George Town, the capital of Penang, is located at the north-east of Penang
island. It is both an old and modern city. It has a population of about 700,000.

George Town is connected to Peninsular Malaysia by road, air and sea. The
Penang Bridge which is 13.5 km long looks like the Golden Gate Bridge in San
Francisco. It connects Penang island to the mainland. There is also a fast boat
service, started in 2021, which connects the island and the mainland.

I like George Town more than any other city because it has many interesting
places. There are many historic buildings, places of worship, shops, shopping
malls and restaurants. My favourite places are Penang Hill and Botanic Gardens.
There are also popular beaches along the northwestern area, such as in the
areas of Batu Feringghi and Tanjung Bungah.

at the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia. It is connected to Singapore by the
1,038-metre long causeway. Johor Bahru is a big city and there are a lot of
interesting things to do and see here.

My favourite place is the Istana Besar, the main palace of the Johor royal
family. It is surrounded by the 53-hectare Istana Garden. There is a children’s
playground, orchid garden, Japanese garden with a Japanese Tea house and
even a zoo here.

Near my house, there are shopping malls, cinemas and hotels. The Holiday
Plaza, one of longest shopping arcades in Asia, is very close to my house.

Kuching, located on the wider island of Borneo, is a city and the capital of Sarawak.
It is an old city and it’s got a population of about 570,000. It has a very strategic
location along the snake-like Sarawak River.

Kuching is one of the prettiest spots in the region. I like this city because of the
different cultures and its history. It’s an interesting place and the people are very
friendly. I love strolling along the Kuching waterfront. My favourite places are the
Astana and the cat museum.
