THE SUMMER OLYMPICS 2024 The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in France from the 26 July to 11 August, 2024 throughout the Paris metro area and beyond. About 15.3 million visitors, including 1.9 million international travellers, are estimated to visit the capital city of France and its surrounding areas during the Olympics. Paris has been preparing for the Olympics in many ways. One of the preparations include purifying the River Seine to allow for the swimming events to take place. They have also increased the number of bike lanes designated to allow for greener transportation to and from the games. It is hoped that the visitors can go to the competition sites by public transport or active transport, such as a bicycle. At present, there is a biking network of 1,000km in Paris. Instead of constructing new buildings to host the sports events, Paris will use its famous attractions and landmarks to be Olympic stadiums and arenas. In fact, 90% of the locations for the Olympic Games already exist so there is no need to spend too much money or resources to build new locations. This is also an effort to conserve the environment. For example, the Grand Palais will host fencing and taekwondo while beach volleyball is set to take place at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The Place de la Concorde will host the new Olympic sports such as breakdance, skateboard, BMX, and basketball 3x3.
