2 Letter From Your DirectorS Hello Oconto community! Thank you for an incredible, fun filled summer of 2022. We want to take a moment to thank all of you for joining us back at Oconto for another very special summer. We are so proud to have shared in these amazing memories with you and to watch you strengthen your friendships with your camp friends and make new ones as well. There is so much about this summer that we are so proud of: Whether it’s the amazing food that Leslies and her team prepared for us in the Dining Hall each meal (guacamole for taco Tuesday anyone?), the fantastic monther plays that we were treated to in July and August to go along with equally well performed two weeker plays, the magic of Semi banquets Nickelodeon and Stranger Things with their special details and costumes that left us dancing to “Running Up that Hill”, to the enthusiasm and dedication that you all showed at activities day in and day out. At the heart of every Oconto summer is the talented Oconto camp staff. This amazing group of young people returned this summer to deliver the promise of camp and bring back traditions that had been modified because of the restrictions of the past two years. Their spirit, optimism and unbreakable friendships with one another are the light that keeps Oconto so bright. We consider one of the great joys of being camp directors is getting to bear witness to the wealth of camp friendships that flourish at Oconto. We also want to take this opportunity to thank Emily Pepper who has been our Assistant Director for the past 2 summers and would have been for 2020 as well (if camp had been allowed to happen in 2020). Emily’s leadership, caring attitude and love for camp combined with her attention to detail have been instrumental contributions in the smooth operations of camp. Although Emily is moving on to an exciting career in midwifery, her legacy at camp will be felt and missed. “We love you Emily, oh yes we do!…” And finally, we want to thank all Oconto parents for your trust in us and your love and support for Oconto. We are so proud to continue on the legacy of my parents Lisa and Bruce and my grandparents Cliff and June. An important lesson that we’ve taken from the past couple of years is that nothing can stand in the way of a community of people who are all pulling in the same direction. Thank you for being a part of this very special Oconto family. We hate to part, but in our hearts, we’ll return there once again! Bronwyn and Ted

11 Strawberry fest Strawberry Fest is a special event that happens every summer at the beginning of July. All of the campers and staff participate in an all-camp game that is carefully planned by the Eagle Section staff. This year, the game was Disney’s “Cars” themed, and everyone ran around camp in teams with campers of all ages trying to collect different themed objects. Everyone then got to enjoy a giant beautiful vanilla cake topped with fresh strawberries that was as big as a door! -Talia Damas
12 July QC All camp This July the QCs worked so hard to make “The Smurfs” come to life for a smurftastic QC All-Camp!! The QCs created the magical Smurf Village with different areas of the Smurf world, including evil Gargamels castle and Papa Smurfs potion apothecary! The 33 QCs were so committed to the theme and their costumes that they all woke up at 6am to cover themselves head to toe in blue paint. They remained in costume for the entire day, singing and spreading Smurf love wherever they went! Music from the Smurf movies and television show played throughout the day to accompany the Blue Moon pancakes, Clumsy’s pierogies, and Smurfettes forest adventure pasta! The afternoon saw the camp divided into various teams competing in a scavenger hunt to try and save Smurfette from Gargamel and Azrael. Following ice blue cupcakes and a candy bar, the camp participated in an evening program of “Smurf Crash” with the goal being to collect as many Smurfs from around camp as they could! The day was filled with fun and laughs and the QCs should be extremely proud of the fantastic event they were able to give camp!! - Mackenzie Blakeley
13 July Winners Decathlon: Birch Team Shield: Maple
14 July Semi banquet I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work the Semis of 2022 have put into creating memorable banquets for the camp this summer. In July, the theme was Nickelodeon which encompassed many different shows including: iCarly, Victorious and SpongeBob. The Dining Hall was sectioned into the three shows where each one was brought to life. From the lockers at Hollywood Arts to Bikini Bottom and the Groovy Smoothie store, the Semis recreated the iconic sets and had a great time working together as a team to pull it off. Highlights of the night included trying a “Spaghetti Taco” for the first time, having to prevent the Tads from eating the “dog food” (ie. Cocoa Puffs cereal) at the Dog Food Fight set, and accompanying Gary the snail as he ~slowly~ made his way around the dining hall during the meal. - Meaghan Lee

27 fairy Fest Twice a summer we hold a very special event to celebrate the Oconto Fairies and all they do for us at Oconto. All of camp gathers on Eagle Point to play games, sing songs, write fairy letters, and listen to the history of the Oconto fairies. Fairy Fest is an evening filled with magic and whimsy, and the luckiest of us might even get the chance to see a fairy! - Claire Leffler
28 August QC All camp In August, the QCs worked hard to make the theme “Tinkerbell” really come to life. Together the 15 August QCs created a magical and fun-filled QC All-Camp that put smiles on all of the campers and staffs faces. The day included a fully decorated Dining Hall featuring the different areas of Pixie Hollow as well as the incredible characters and costumes from the movie. Music from the various soundtracks played throughout the day in the Dining Hall while special meals and drinks were enjoyed. In the afternoon everyone participated in a camp-wide scavenger hunt to help rescue Tinkerbell from the Evil Thistles. This included solving clues and going to different locations around camp. The day finished with an AllCamp game of “Capture the Trinket”, a Tinkerbell take on Capture the Flag! - Erika Munz

30 In August, the banquet theme was Stranger Things- a well loved Netflix show series! This banquet quickly became a highly anticipated one for the Semis as they started gathering supplies for it in July. Throughout the month of August, the Semis managed to work through a few setbacks to pull off what I think many people will agree was one of the best banquets at Oconto! The Semis’ love for the series was shown in the details and effort they put into the decor and costumes. From the very start, campers and staff had to walk through the fog machine smoke in the outdoor tent before entering the Dining Hall and the town of Hawkins. Inside the Dining Hall, aspects from all four seasons of Stranger Things were included. As people traveled through the room, they got to see all the popular characters and visit places such as the Starcourt Mall, Hawkins Middle School, Castle Byers, Joyce’s home, the Upside Down, and see Vecna suspended from the beams. The dinner was catered by Benny’s Burgers and dessert was an Eleven inspired “Eggo Extravaganza” from Scoops Ahoy. Like all great banquets, the evening ended with a giant dance party to popular songs that would “save us from Vecna”. Overall, it was so fun to be a part of this year’s banquets and witness all the Semis’ artistic talents (some hidden!) showcased around the Dining Hall.
