MITUTOYO CALIPERS VERNIER / DIGITAL / DIAL

Mitutoyo manufacture many different types of calipers – in vernier, digital and
dial options.

Models are available with standard jaws, nib style jaws, long jaws, point
calipers, blade type calipers, inside calipers, tube thickness calipers, hook type
calipers, low force calipers – many of these in both analogue and digital
versions.

And many of the digital versions are now offered with IP67 coolant rating so
that they can be used in environments where coolant and oil is present.

The most popular type of caliper is the standard 530 series Vernier Caliper,
followed by the standard digital 500 series model with ABSOLUTE encoder
technology. The digital 500 series IP67 ABSOLUTE coolant proof model is
close behind.
The most suitable type of vernier for a customer’s requirements will depend on
several factors – the environment in which it is to be used, the item to be
measured, the shape and depth of jaw required, the graduations required, and
whether a vernier, dial or digital readout is preferred amongst other factors.

graduated in 0.05mm and 1 / 128”. This is called a ‘fractional’ reading.

• Upper (inside) and lower (outside) jaws
• Lower (outside) jaw depth on 6”/150mm is 40mm, on 8”/200mm it is 50mm and

on 12”/300mm jaw depth is 64mm

ABSOLUTE (ABS) Linear Encoder Technology
All current models of Mitutoyo Digimatic Calipers realise ABSOLUTE Linear
Encoder technology which means that at start up for this first time or after replacing
a battery the origin must be set by cleaning and closing the jaws while depressing
the Origin button until the zero appears. Measurement can now be started without
zero-setting each time the caliper is switched on. The Zero/ABS button is used
when Zero Set mode is required for Zero sets at any slider position along the scale
for comparison measurements. Once these requirements are completed the
Zero/ABS button should be depressed for 3 seconds or until the caliper returns to
ABSOLUTE mode (ABS). When the caliper is in Incremental mode a small ”inc”
will display in the top left corner. Please also note that more battery power is
required to use in Incremental mode than ABS mode.

ABSOLUTE DIGIMATIC CALIPERS 500 SERIES
The two most popular series of Digimatic calipers are the Standard and Coolant
Proof 500 series, both with ABS Technology. There are also 500 series Solar
powered Digimatic calipers (so no battery required) and 500 series Super Calipers
(both IP67 Digimatic coolant proof and solar powered)

500-712 shown

Over the years there have been many model changes as Mitutoyo update the
technology, accuracy and efficiency of their small tools.
The first standard digital calipers all had SPC data output, but later models were
offered with or without this function as the majority of users did not actually need
to download the readings for analysis, and so more economic options were able to
be offered.
And when Mitutoyo first introduced coolant proof digital calipers to the market, they
offered 3 different IP ratings – IP65, IP66 and IP67 – both with and without SPC
data output function, and with different spare parts.

So if spare parts are required for any Mitutoyo calipers, please ensure correct code
/ model number is provided, as even the battery covers on the digital calipers are
different for each different model.

OTHER TYPES OF CALIPERS FOR SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

160 Series Vernier Caliper
160 Series with nib style jaws – have lower jaws only. Inside and outside
measurements can be read directly from upper and lower vernier scales. The jaws
have rounded measuring faces for accurate ID measurement. This series is
available with and without fine adjustment. Sizes range from 0-300mm / 12” to 0-
2000mm / 80

534 Series Long Jaw Vernier

534 series long jaw Vernier caliper – to reach hard-to-reach workpiece features.
Have lower jaws only. Sizes range from 0 -300mm to 0 -1000mm. Jaw depth is
90mm for 300mm model and 200mm for 500mm – 1000mm models. Perfect for
jobs where longer jaw depth required. However minimum range of 300mm may still
be an issue for customers wanting smaller range. Customers often have to
compromise on range / size versus jaw depth required.

536 Series Point Calipers
Point Calipers - are available in both vernier 536 series and 573 series IP67
Digimatic models. Narrow-tip jaws fit into very small grooves and tracks, and
uneven surfaces, making outside measurement easier in difficult to access places.

536 Series Tube Thickness Caliper
Tube Thickness Calipers – are available in both vernier 536 series and 573 series
IP67 Digimatic models. The beam-mounted jaw is a round bar that enables
measurement of tube or pipe wall thickness.
Only available in 0-150mm / 0-6”

536 Series Hook Type Calipers
Hook Type Vernier Calipers – 536 vernier type - also available as Inside Groove
Type. Can measure width of grooves and inside bores and recesses. Available 0 -
200mm only

573 Series Low Force Digital Caliper
Low-force caliper – available as Absolute Digimatic 573 model only. Due to low
measuring force, these calipers are ideal for measuring elastic work-pieces such
as plastic parts and rubber parts that standard calipers cannot measure accurately.
Only available in 0-180mm / 0-7”
