that there may be a fire and to evacuate. Here is one
of example of fire alarm which is smoke detector.

Furthermore, fire alarms can be found in offices,
factories, and public buildings; they are an integral part
of our daily lives, yet they are sometimes disregarded
until an emergency arises, at which point they may
save our lives. Moreover, a remote signal system might
be included in the fire alarm system, which would then
inform the fire department via a central station.

2. SMOKE DETECTORS

The sprinkler system can able to detect the existing
fire easily due to the fact that many hotels have smoke
detectors or photocell smoke detectors as well as
sprinklers. These two collaborate. When a smoke
detector is triggered by smoke, the water sprinklers are
automatically activated to put out the fire.

The phase 2 of Fire Active systems cannot work
without passive fire safety materials, and the two must
work together for instance, a sprinkler system won't be
able to put out a fire if the ceiling it is attached to has
collapsed. Based on this Maya Hotel Room floor plan,
here you can see the passive system that help the
active system to work sufficiently.

For your information, there is principles of passive

structural elements. It is essential that these
compartment parts work as expected in real life
situations, not only in reduced fire simulations.

Assembly Area at Maya Hotel

In the event of an emergency
evacuation, such as a fire, an
evacuation assembly area is a
designated safe zone away from the
building where the employees and
guests can meet. This should be
located a safe distance from the
building, be widely recognised among
personnel, and allow the employees
and guests to be identified during an
evacuation. Exit routes to the
evacuation assembly area should be
well-lit, well-marked, and large enough
to accommodate the expected number
of evacuees at Maya Hotel Kuala

PHASE 3

PHASE 3A
Building Acoustics are essential in
BUILDING
the design, operation and
ACOUSTICS construction of most buildings. Maya
Hotel Kuala Lumpur is an exclusive
and contemporary hotel that also be
involved by the problems regarding
to the building acoustic. The
objective of acoustics is to reduce
noise transmission from one location
to another while also controlling
sound properties within those
spaces.

How the Space
1. Use carpets for the hotel lobby’s flooring

Acoustics in faultless and distinctive surroundings. It has been
placed in various areas at hotel lobby that are adequate
and also advance in their benefits in terms of their
aesthetic worth. Maya Hotel Kuala Lumpur has
provided its guests with a magnificent view of the lobby,
as well as a gorgeous carpet design and acoustical
properties for the hotel. As a result, when the sound is
transmitted in that particular location, it can also serve
as a good sound insolation.

2. In the hotel room, cover the window with the
curtain material
Curtain become as the piece of material suspended
at the top to form a screen, typically movable
sideways along a rail and found as one of a pair at a
window. They will give guests with privacy as well as
acoustical properties in the hotel. Sound absorbing
curtains help to improve sound quality and reduce
vibration levels in any room where they are used. To
help reduce noise and offer sound insulation, the
acoustic curtain material utilised to produce these
curtains is very porous and extremely thick.

How the Space
3) In the ballroom, use the wall-to-wall carpets as well
of Building is
as the floor
Designed for
When a hotel is hosting an event such as a wedding, a
Acoustics conference, a meeting, or something similar, it
generates a lot of noise in a variety of ways. As a result,
the carpet has played an important role by becoming as
one of the best sound absorbers available. A carpeted
floor will reduce sound volume, echoes, and harshness
in any area. Otherwise, wall to wall carpet also become
as the sound absorber and can minimised it. As a
result, other guests on the lower level will be more
comfortable and enjoy their staycation.

4) Construct the hotel’s structure using concrete
finishes
Maya Hotel Kuala Lumpur be construct by using the
structure of concrete finishes. Concrete as the
construction material made of the mixture of
cement, sand and stone to make it harder and can
from with the brick. As a result, it can prevent the
transmission of airborne sound such as conversation
and television noise in the hotel room. It because of
the density of standard concrete mixes can, in
relatively small thicknesses, provide sufficient mass.
So, the other guests will not intrude on their privacy
or comfort environment.

ACOUSTICAL

CHALLENGES IN

THE BUILDING

1) Lots of Hard Surfaces
As we can see, the floor design surface is made from the wooden
material. Wood material can be defined as the organic, hygroscopic,
and anisotropic material which is one of the suitable materials to be
sued on the building especially in term of their aesthetic value. In
term of their acoustic properties, wooden material does not provide
the excellent sound isolation. The mass of the surface acts as a
sound barrier. Wood is not excellent for sound isolation because it is
a light material, but it is ideal for sound absorption. By absorbing
sound, wood reduces echoes and noise. As a result, it is frequently
utilized in other suitable areas. Woods have a faster sound velocity
than gases and liquids, and it is comparable to metals. Because of its
lightness and structure, wood loses very little sound energy as a
result of friction. Wood is widely utilized in musical instruments due
to its characteristics.

ACOUSTICAL

CHALLENGES IN

THE BUILDING

2) Improper Ceiling Materials
Moreover, Maya Hotel Kuala Lumpur have used their design
regarding the ceiling which can be identified as the concrete ceiling
surfaces. Ceiling can be known as the overhead interior surface that
cover the upper limits of the room in such building. So, the second
factor that contribute to the cause of acoustic properties regarding
this hotel are about Improper Ceiling Materials. For the reason,
concrete ceilings are considered to be so durable and long-lasting
that while people are sitting in the room, they do not hear any
footsteps from the other level. Unfortunately, the concrete ceiling
does not provide good sound and noise absorption. Concrete is a
hard and dense substance that reflects sound well but does not
transmit or absorb sound well, according to the facts. As a result of
the dense to tiny space of the room, the noise will become
unbearable to the guests.

ACOUSTICAL

CHALLENGES IN

THE BUILDING

3) Open Concept Space
Furthermore, this hotel's architecture features an Open Concept
Space at the center of the building. As a nutshell, there's a potential
that the sound will travel from the hotel's ground level to the upper
floors. Noise is not blocked or absorbed in this type of open concept
environment. As a result, sound control will be poor. In terms of
privacy, it also does not put their guest in an uncomfortable
situation. It will be classified as a breach of privacy. As a conclusion,
while it may be suitable for other areas, it is not suited for the hotel
area due to acoustic and comfort concerns.

ACOUSTICAL

CHALLENGES IN

THE BUILDING

4) Environment Noise
Besides that, environmental noise issues will see an impact. Because
of the hotel's central position in Kuala Lumpur, it may be disturbed
by background noise such as traffic and people activities. Because of
the hotel's strategic point, it has faced a slew of challenges,
particularly with traffic owing to peak hours in the early morning
when people are leaving for work and late evening when people are
returning home Due to the metropolitan city's workplace, this type
of issue is typical for all buildings in Kuala Lumpur. In terms of guest
comfort, it will make them feel a little uneasy during their resting
time and other activities in the hotel's area.

ACOUSTICAL

CHALLENGES IN

THE BUILDING

5) Poor Room Insulation
Finally, the hotel amenities are thought to have poor room
insulation. The use of a hardwood floor in the gym may allow noise
to migrate to other areas, creating an uncomfortable situation. Maya
Hotel Kuala Lumpur offers a full-service spa, swimming pool, gym,
and other amenities to its guests. However, some of them may
experience difficulties due to acoustic issues. A gym is a location
with special equipment where people go to exercise and become in
shape while also releasing their tension and thoughts. However, the
gym flooring materials used hardwood finishes, which dispersed the
noise from the equipment and people who were using the gym at the
time.

SOLUTION TO 1

CHALLENGES Carpet

material will help to absorb sound waves. Carpet also can act as
a sound barrier between hotel floors that helps to block sound or
noise transmission to rooms below. Carpet eliminate excessive
noise from floor impacts such as footfalls as it controls sound
reverberation.

SOLUTION TO 2
IMPROVE THE
CHALLENGES Mineral Fiber Ceiling

Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur used The second solution is for the hotel bedroom ceiling which is by
concrete and ceiling plaster as adding sound absorptive insulation. It is one of the best solution
ceiling material or finishes for each to improve that challenge as it will limit the sound that travels

composed of mineral fiber. This kind of material will act as
sound absorption ceiling which can achieve full absorption of
sound effect. Mineral fiber are heavier and denser, so it will
more better at impeding sound travels from room to room.
Mineral fiber also can reduce sound wave reflection, eliminate
echo and lessen the noise transmitted by hotel floor.

PHASE 3B

COMPARISON ANALYSIS OF

RETROFITTED WORK

The Maya Hotel in Kuala Lumpur was
completed in 1998. The structure, which was
finished in 1996 and comprised 22 stories
and 280 rooms, a main tenant and some
smaller commercial tenancies.

In 2005, the structure had some renovations
in order to meet the current benchmark for a
unique yet pleasurable experience. This was a
large-scale renovation project that included
considerable interior space reconfiguration.
The interior design of the 22-storey hotel was
completely altered in accordance to the
client's brief to reposition the hotel as a
boutique hotel.

STUDIO HERITAGE ROOM A 6-month restoration is required to focus on the
repair and maintenance of 119 accommodation
STUDIO HERITAGE ROOM rooms, with 75 rooms being restyled as Studio
Heritage Rooms. It also has 284 rooms, all of
which have been recently refreshed. The Studio
Heritage Room, which has recently been restored,
is distinctively adorned with batik artistry and
elaborately woven wicker. Each fitting tells a tale
about Malaysia's multi-cultural mix and its
colonial background.The distinctive composition
of the batik headboard, exclusively designed by
Gahara, an artisanal batik textile producer in
Malaysia, takes CenterStage in vibrant hues,
depicting a local Spinach or Bayam Peraksi with
layers of inspiration taken from local fern and
symbolic hand gestures in Malay dance, also
known as Mudra.

SPIRAL STAIRCASE

The internal areas were opened up and reorganised,
allowing for more natural light and enhanced visual
connectedness between the levels. Because of its
sculptural value, the existing spiral staircase connecting
the lobby area on the ground floor to the check-in level on
the upper floor has been preserved. The spiral staircase
can improve the hotel's aesthetic value and surrounding
view.

Maya Hotel Kuala Lumpur installed an elevator as part of their ELEVATOR
2005 refurbishment to better accommodate their guests and
save transit time across the hotel. It has also improved the hotel
with the advanced technology of this type of mechanical
transportation within the hotel. As a result, their guests will be
more convenient and comfortable as a result of the numerous
benefits.

The design theme's language and application of the chosen
materials specified above were adopted in all food and
beverage outlets, harmonising and blurring the lines
between public amenities. A sky lounge was built on the
thirteenth floor to provide a semi-private place for hotel
guests only. To increase the use of the lounge, meeting
facilities were established. The lighting was chosen and
tuned to give the space a nicer feel.

SKY LOUNGE

The guests enjoy in the spectacular views of Kuala Lumpur while
eating their hotel-provided meals. They can unwind and enjoy
their vacation to the fullest. The stunning view of Kuala Lumpur

CONCLUSION

Although Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur has been certified as a 5-star hotel, the acoustics of the structure may
be enhanced. The hotel was built around a specific concept, for example, rustic. However, it lacks the
necessary acoustic properties to effectively cope with noise. Typically, the designer's major focus is on the
functionality and aesthetics of the work or living spaces for which they are responsible. On the other hand, far
too often, the aspects that contribute to occupant comfort are disregarded.

The majority of guests are travelling for business or pleasure, and they want hotels to deliver the best
service possible. Numerous variables must be considered to ensure customer satisfaction with the services
they receive since one of the most crucial factors to consider while constructing a structure is the occupants'
comfort. There have already been a couple of recommendations. When a building produces excessive noise, it
might create uneasiness among its guests. Thus, by providing a comfortable auditory environment, the hotel
can significantly improve the overall mood of those who stay there.
