Once there
was a girl named Martha.
Martha was a
hard working
student and
she had a lot of good
grades in all her classes
for the past eight years.
Martha wanted
something really
special…
...something that
she has been
wanting for eight
years.
I want
that
jacket.
Before the
eighth grade
graduation,
there was a
jacket,
that she wanted, called
The Scholarship Jacket.
Before she gets
the jacket, the
principal told
her that she has
to pay $15 for
the jacket,
even though the
jacket was free.
If Martha was not able to
buy the jacket, then
another student named
Joann
will get the jacket because
of her good grades.
Martha was
walking home,
and she had so
many tears
coming down her cheeks.
So, she ran to her
Grandfather and
asked,
So, she ran to
her Grandfather
and asked,
“Grandpa, the principal said
that The Scholarship Jacket is
not going to be free and I would
have to pay $15 by tomorrow.
Otherwise he’s going to give it
the jacket to someone else.”
But her
Grandfather
replied to
her,
“Is the jacket even worth
it if it needs to be paid
for?”
She cried and cried
because she knew
that she could not
buy the jacket
She cried and cried
because she knew
that she could not
buy the jacket
and she did not have any
money to buy the jacket.
