Prologue
Question:
My Answer: The month of August was described as the very top
of the summer like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it
pauses. Also the first week of August is motionless and hot. It is
curiously silent too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons,
and sunsets smeared with too much color.
Question:
My Answer: The purpose of Mae Tuck’s trip is that Mae Tuck is
going out on her horse for the wood at the edge of the village of
Treegap. She goes there every ten years to meet her two sons
Miles, and Jesse.
Chapters 1 and 2
Chapter 1 Question:
My Answer: No one ever goes in the woods because the woods
had a sleeping, otherworld appearance that made you want to
speak in whispers and it seems suspicious and forbidden.
Chapter 2 Question:
My Answer: Mae is so excited because today she gets to go
meet her boys Jesse and Miles finally because she has not seen
them in a decade or ten years.
Chapters 3 and 4
Chapter 3 Question:
My Answer: Winnie is frustrated because she is an only child
and her parents only watch her, but if she had a sibling she
wouldn’t have to be watched all the time.
Chapter 4 Question:
My Answer: The stranger didn't answer the questions, “We
haven’t met, that I can recall. Who are you? Who are you
looking for?”
Chapters 5 and 6
Chapter 5 Question:
My Answer: Winnie decided not to run away because she was
scared to run away by herself because the world is dangerous.
Chapter 6 Question:
My Answer: Winnie reacts to the kidnapping by not saying
anything just waiting.
Chapters 7 and 8
Chapter 7 Question:
My Answer: When the Tucks came to Treegap for the first time
everyone drank except for the cat. On page 38 it says “
Everyone took a drink , even the horse. No, said Mae, the cat
didn’t drink. That’s important.” Then it says that the cat died
because of age and Mae sayes the never never aged.
Chapter 8 Question:
My Answer: I think Winnie doesn’t believe in the Tucks story
because it says “Winnie did not believe in fairy tales.” Therefore
I think Winnie does not believe in the Tucks story.

Chapters 1-8
In chapters 1-8 of Tuck Everlasting, it describes how Winnie Foster meets
the Tucks. In chapter 1, Winnie lives in an overprotective house in the village
of Treegap with her parents and grandmother.Their house is on the edge of
the woods they own but never go into. Chapter 2 the Tucks are getting
excited to see their sons whom they have not seen in ten years. Mae is
heading off to meet them, but they say that she has to be careful not to be
seen. She does not look in the mirror before she goes because it says she
has looked the same for the past 87 years. May takes along her music box
as she goes off to meet her sons. Chapter 3 is mostly about how Winnie
has a conversation with a toad. She talks about how hard her life is and she
decides to run away. Then in chapter 4 Winnie heads out to her yard and
meets a stranger walking by who asks her about the woods and the people
she knows in the area. He tells her that he is looking for a family. Winnie’s
grandmother comes out to tell Winnie to go inside. Just then some music is
heard in the woods. The grandmother says it is the elf music she hasn’t
heard in years. Winnie thinks it sounds like a music box and the stranger is
very interested in it. Chapter 5 is about how Winnie decides not to run
away. In chapter 6 Winnie goes into the woods and gets kidnapped and
doesn’t scream and yell, she just goes with what they are doing. Chapter 7
they talk about how everyone drank from the spring except for the cat but
the cat aged and died but everyone else stayed the same age. Chapter 8
starts off by saying that Winnie didn’t believe in fairy tale and that the
Tucks are relieved that they finally told someone. Then the next day the
Tucks return Winnie to her house. That is what happening in chapters 1-8.

Chapter 9 Question:
My Answer: The Tucks made the trip easier for Winnie by
carrying her, letting her use the blue straw hat, and letting her
ride the horse instead of walking. It states this one page 46
“Miles carried her some of the way. The tops …. Mae who had
finally insisted that she wear the blue straw hat.”

Chapter 11 Question:
My Answer: At the Tucks house they are not even using a table and sitting
on the floor and they don’t talk and only eating, but at the Foster’s house
they use napkins ,have a conversation ,and are very clean. I saw a reference
on page 56 it says “ But there seemed to be no rules. Jesse sat on the floor
and used the seat of a chair as a table, but the others held their plates in
their laps. There were no napkins. It was all right, then, to lick the maple
syrup from your fingers. Winnie was never allowed to do such a thing at

Chapter 12 Question:
My Answer: Tuck means that everything will keep on going but
you will just be stuck forever. Like the water how it just keeps
going. Here is where i found this answer “It’s like a wheel,
Winnie . Everything’s a wheel, turning and turning, never
stopping.”

Chapter 13 Question:
My Answer: The stranger told the Fosters were their little girl
went. It told me when i read “I have happy news for for. I know
where they’ve taken your little girl.
Chapter 14 Question:
My Answer: Their opinions are different because when Tuck is
worrying about how someone stole their horse and think that it
might be someone who is looking for Winnie, Mae is just telling
him that it is okay. Here is some evidence from the text, “But the
question is, was it just some ordinary thief, or was it someone
that had some special reason? … Hush now, Tuck.”
Chapters 15-17
Chapter 15 Question:
My Answer: The fosters did not give the man in the yellow suit
the wood because he did not think it was a good deal because
he said, “There now! Your terrible ordeal is as good as over,
isn’t it?”
Chapter 16 Question:
My Answer: I think the stranger ditched the constable because
he is going to talk with the Tucks because he says “So I’ll go go
on ahead, and wait outside the house till you get there.” My
reason that I think that he will talk with the Tucks because the
Tucks will most likely see him and it could be an hour that he
will wait there.
Chapter 17 Question:
My Answer: When Miles catches the fish Winnie tells him to put it back and
Miles was going to protest against her but just does it anyways. It says that on
page 87 “Put it back right away. Miles started to protest then looking at her face,
he picked up” and put it in the water. “ All right Winnie, he said” At the end Miles
also said “People got to be meat-eaters sometimes, though. It’s the natural way.
And that means leilling things. I know, said Winnie weekly. But still. Yes said Miles.
I know” This means that Miles and Winnie want to not kill it but sometimes there
can’t be a bunch,

Chapters 9-17
In chapter 9 the tucks bring Winnie back to their house and talks about the trip
to their house. Chapter 10 is mostly about how Winnie is seeing the Tucks
house and realizing the differences between their house and her house. The
11th chapter is when they are at dinner Winnie realizes they have no rules and
tells them she wants to go home. Also, she tells them about the guy with a
yellow suit. In chapter 12 Tuck takes Winnie on a ride on the pond and tells her
why things should die. The boys also realizes the horse is missing. Chapter 13
is when the stranger takes the Tuck’s horse to get to the Fosters house and
tells Winnie's grandma that he has good news about Winnie. In the 14th
chapter, the Tucks say that they are going to look for the horse tomorrow and
Winnie can’t go to sleep. Everyone in the Tucks family comes down to say
good night to Winnie. When Jesse comes down to say goodnight he talks
about how if WInnie does drink from the spring the could get married and that
the rest of the Tuck don’t know how to spend their time. Chapter nine is when
the Stranger talks to the Fosters about Winnie but the Fosters don’t like the
deal that the Stager proposed. Which was if he told them where Winnie was
that her could have the woods. In chapter 16 the constable says that maybe
the man in the yellow suit is working with the kidnappers and the man in the
yellow suit explains the route and how far the distances is then the man in the
yellow suit starts going to the Tuck’s house before the constable. The 17th
chapter is when Miles takes Winnie to catch some fish for breakfast and Winnie
doesn’t want to eat the fish that Miles caught because she doesn’t want to kill
it.
Chapters 18-25
Chapters 18 and 19
Chapter 18 Question:
My Answer: The situational irony at the end of the chapter is
when the man in the yellow suit comes knocking at the Tuck’s
door when the were eating breakfast. The wouldn’t have
expected it because in the chapter Mae said, “We ain't never
had callers in all the years we been here.”
Chapter 19 Question:
My Answer: The stranger said that he was going to sell the
spring and avertis it but h would make Winnie drink from it for
is advertisement and said that it would be better if Winnie drink
from it because kids are better for advertising. Then Mae shot
the guy with the yellow suit because of that and killed him.
“Once Winifred drinks some of the water, she’ll do just as well
for my demonstrations… Not Winnie!... With a dull cracking
sound, the stock of the shotgun smashed into the back of his
skull.”
Chapters 20 and 21
Chapter 20 Question:
My Answer: If the stranger dies then Mae will be sentenced to
death and be hung. “If this feller dies, you’ll get the gallows…
The gallows? He whispered. Hanging?”
Chapter 21 Question:
My Answer: The Tucks weren’t charged with the kidnapping
because Winn said she wanted to go with the and that they
didn’t kidnap her. On page 102 Winnie said, “They didn’t kidnap
me,” she said. “I came because i wanted to.”... “That's right,”
said Winnie unflinchingly. “They’re my friends.” This shows that
Winnie said she wanted to go and that the Tucks didn’t kidnap
her.
Chapters 22 and 23
Chapter 22 Question:
My Answer: Jesse gave Winnie a bottle of water from the spring
so that when Winnie is seventeen she can drink out of the water
so that they could stay together. One page 114 Jesse says
“here’s a bottle of water from the spring. You keep it. And then,
no matter what where you ar , when you’re seventeen.”
Chapter 23 Question:
My Answer: The weather is so difficult in this time period
because they couldn’t know on their weather app to see if it was
going to rain or not you would have to look or go outside to see
what the weather would be like.
Chapters 24 and 25
Chapter 24 Question:
My Answer: The weather shows where the climax is and where the falling
action is because when they are trying to get Mae out and open the window it is
storming then when the Tucks leave and Winnie is in the sell like its still storming
but she is not so tense about it. When they are trying to get the window open the
book says, “Why doesn’t he…” Then-a flash of lightning and, soon after, a crack of
thunder.” Then later on when Winnie is in the sell it says, “Rain blew into her face,
but at the next flash of lightning, looking down, she saw that the yard was empty.
And before the thunder followed, in a pause while wind and rain held back for one
brief moment,” This shows that everything almost stopped when she was in the
sell.
Chapter 25 Question:
My Answer: The toad is in danger because the dog is barking at
the toad acting like he want to eat him.
Epilogue
What does the reader learn from the epilogue in this novel? Do
you think the epilogue was necessary?
The reader learns that Winnie didn’t drink any of the water and
that she died when she was 78. Also that her house and the
woods are no longer there. All of Treegap has changed a lot
from when there were no cars to buildings and restaurants etc. I
think the epilogue was very necessary because it shows how
the woods is no longer there and that Winnie died instead of
drinking the water from the spring.

Chapters 18-25
In chapter 18, Winnie and Miles came in from fishing, and since they
didn’t catch any fish they had flapjacks for breakfast again. When the
Tucks were eating breakfast they heard a knock on the door and it was
the Stranger. Chapter 19 is when the Stranger threatened to take away
the spring water and sell it and Mae hit over the head with their old
shotgun and killed him. In chapter 20 the constable arrested Mae and took
Winnie home. The Tucks are concerned because they know if Mae goes
to the gallows everyone will know that she can’t die. In chapter 21 Winnie
arrived home safely. She knows the needs to help Mae but she doesn’t
know how to. In chapter 22 Jesse came to the Foster and explains to
Winnie their plan about how their are going to help Mae. Also Jesse gives
Winnie a bottle of water from the spring so she can drink when she is
seventeen. In chapter 23 Winnie is waiting until midnight thinking about
the plan and if she will regret doing it. Winnie fell asleep when she woke
up she was right on time to exceed her plan. In chapter 24 Miles struggled
to get the window open, when he did Mae and Winnie traded places in the
jailhouse and the Tucks left for good. In chapter 25 the constable realizes
that Mae and Winnie switched places and the constable takes Winnie
back to her house. Winnie poured the bottle of spring water on the road
because he is being cheated so he could live forever.
Winnie is very outgoing
and brave. She hopes to
run away with Jesse
when she is older. Winnie
Foster has been so
supervised for almost 11
years so she really wants

something different.
Winnie fears not knowing
what the future holds.
Jesse’s hopes for the
future is that when
