Milestone Idea Card

‘I can tell the difference between living and
non-living’

For this activity you can look around your home and find
things that are living and non-living. This could include

pets, family members, flowers, trees, insects, toys,
furniture, pens, pencils, cups. Discuss what makes them
living i.e. they need oxygen, water, sunshine or the fact
that they grow. Ask children to identify what items are

living or non-living and see if they can explain why.
Once you have spoken about the differences you can
challenge your child to do a living and non-living treasure
hunt. Ask your child to find 5 living things and 5 non

living things.
