Located in the Industrial Processing Zone in Biyagama, Sri Lanka, the company shares the ownership
among Richard Pieris Exports Plc, Kegalle Plantations Plc and Richard Pieris & Co Plc. This ownership
has enabled a unique and a vital supply chain integration for Richard Pieris Natural Foams Limited to
manufacture the best latex foam products in the world including natural latex foam mattresses,
toppers and pillows.
Since the production of our first mattress in 1952, RPNF’s has taken vast strides through continuous
research and development in the natural foam rubber technology. High quality 100% natural latex
manufactured by Arpico under Kegalle Plantations Plc is our strength which is exhausted in manufac-
turing the purest all natural latex mattresses certified by globally recognized certifying bodies for
ECO LGA, Oeko Tex, GOLS, STROKE, ABC and SATRA. We now supply the Arpico Organic Latex prod-
uct line complying with GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standards) by the Control Union.
The production prowess of RPNF has created a world market for our natural latex, enabling RPNF to
emerge the global leader in 100% pure natural latex manufacturing. Today the versatile production
capabilities of RPNF meet the demands of over 43 countries world wide.

WHAT IS LATEX ?

The origins of Natural rubber was first discovered by Columbus on his voyage to Haiti between 1495
and 1496.
In 1876, seeds germinated by Sir Henry Wickham at Kew Gardens were sent to Sri Lanka and Malaysia
for rubber planting. These later became the largest sources for natural rubber in the world.
Natural latex is the milky sap of the rubber tree.
It’s a cloudy white liquid is derived from the bark of the rubber tree.
The serum is collected by cutting a thin angular strip across the bark of the tree allowing the latex to
flow into collecting vessels over a few hours.

Latex mattresses conform to the contours of the human body, creating a cushion effect with zero
pressure points being built up during rest. The unique properties of natural latex ensure a good
night’s sleep free of aches and pains resulting in insufficient support or stiffness created by inade-
quate pressure relief. This organic material has also proven its durability. Latex cores come in various
shapes and sizes and can be produced in mono zone, five zone, seven zone and convoluted designs.

Mattress toppers provide extra cushioning comfort coupled with additional pressure point relief for
hips and shoulders, thereby assuring optimum relaxation. Toppers should be placed on top of the
mattress pad and fitted sheet covering both the topper as well as the mattress, thereby holding the

CONTINIOUS SHEETS

Braking barriers of traditional 100% natural latex sheet manufacturing, arpico takes pride in Introducing
the world’s first 100% natural latex and organic latex continues sheeting to the global market. Produce
by the use of dunlop methodology as continued manufacturing of 100% natural latex sheets, the
sheeting is over 110 meters long and has a capacity to produce 25 x 40’ containers per month. The line

is able to produce 1cm to 5cm latex rolls with a pin and without pins.

Latex Rolls

Produced by the use of DUNLOP methodology as a continued manufacturing of 100% natural latex
sheets, the sheeting line is over 110 meters long and has the capacity to produce twenty five 40HC
containers per month. The line is able to produce sheets from 1cm 5cm in plat dimensions at present

and once fully functioned it has the capability to produce in 10 meter rolls.

All our natural latex mattress products conform to Oeko-Tex 100 Class 1 Certificate, a test which
certifies ‘children-safe’ material. To ensure a warm, healthy and a comfortable sleep regime for
infants in their first year who spend 60% of their day sleeping, we have manufactured a special
Easy-Care Baby Crib Mattress, ideal for home and maternity nursing homes. Made out of natural
rubber latex core and microporous film for extra protection, preventing water, urine and other fluids
or substances from penetrating into the core of the mattress, our baby crib mattresses are easy to

clean and practical in usage.

The core made from natural latex is non-toxic, environment-friendly and provides optimum comfort
for your baby. It is also resistant to dust mites, bacteria, mold and mild. The interconnecting open
cells of the mattress provide self-ventilation, making the mattress breathable which keeps warm

during winter and cool in the summer.

protection, the mattress is laminated which a micro-porous film, preventing liquids such as, water,
urine, other fluids or substances to penetrate into the core of the mattress. They easy clean feature

makes it an ideal option for hospitals, maternity and nursing homes.

Dunlop Process has become the most preferred technology to manufacture 100 pure natural latex
mattresses as the process is environmental-friendly and no toxic chemicals are emitted during

production. All our natural latex foam products are manufactured through the Dunlop process.

Compound latex is frothed and filled into molds and vulcanized at lower temperature. Each mattress
is made individually in molds for the size of the product. The gravity and natural sedimentation
makes the firmness gradient from bottom to top, enhancing back support firmness and luxury com-

fort of 100% natural latex mattress.

DUNLOP PRODUCTION PROCESS

01. Tapping & collection

Rubber tree is tapped and the milky sap is collected to a small container. Manu-
facturing of a queen size mattress block require daily collection of sap over
1,200 trees.

02. Centrifuge

Removal of excess water from latex to make 60% DRC latex.

03. Compounding

Milky sap is mixed with processing chemicals in stages.

04. Foaming & vulcanizing

Moulds are filled with compounded latex heat is applied to cure the foam to allow the
latex particle to bond as the mattress core pillow is backed into a solid state.

05. Washing

Once the mattress and pillows are solidified they are stripped off the moulds and
washed. This removes the soap residues and any other chemical and improves
product durability.

06. Drying

The mattress core or pillow is slowly run on a coveyr belt through the dryer, which
evaporates all the water. The continuous driver has a capacity of drying around
80 - 100 containers per month.

07. Quality testing

All products are tested for hardness and density using hardness testers and density
meters. Items are also hand-inspected for visual and physical defects, trimmed and
individually weighed to ensure exact specifications are met.

08. Fabrication packing & delivery

Cores are cut as per customer requirements to get pin core sheets, convoluted
sheets etc.

Certifications

Harmful Substance- Oeko-Tex 100 class

This is content testing certificate for harmful substance mostly for human touching material to show
safety. 100 Class 1 is the test criteria used for baby products.

Content Analysis- ECO

Popular content analysis test for natural rubber carried out by ECO lab in Germany. This test shows
detail continent analysis and natural vs SBR percentage in the product. According to test, you can see
that we don’t have any SBR latex. All polymer used in the product is 100% natural. Page number 19.
You can paste ECO label in all your promotional material for our products. As gel involved, may be you
have to mention that the pillow is certified for ECO. We have been having this test for over 10 years.

Physical Properties- LGA

This test evaluates the Durability and the resilience characteristics of Natural Latex. Our product has
successfully passed the test and is certified. The test is conducted according to European standards
in Germany.

Anti Bacterial Study- ABC test

This test evaluates the Antibacterial efficacy of Natural Latex. Our product has successfully passed
the test and is certified. The test is conducted in USA at the ABC labs.

Body Pressure Mapping- Stork

This test evaluates the Body interface pressure for Latex products. Our product has successfully
passed the test and is certified. Conducted by the Twin city corporation USA.

GOLS - GLOBAL ORGANIC LATEX STANDARD

Global organic Latex Standards evaluate and control the organic latex production program
established by RPNF. the Standard make sure the chain of custody process of using EU and USDA
approved organic latex in the mattress as well as Social and Ethical production standards.

Flame Retardant- SATRA

Our 100% natural flame retardant products comply with SATRA requirements.
