3 Graduation Day Farewell to the first batches of our Pykett family! Pykett’s first ever graduation went off without a hitch on January 20th with students and parents alike overjoyed to say, “We did it, we’re done!” We were honoured to have Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri IR Dr. Sahol Hamid, who himself is a Pykett old boy, as our guest of honour to send our friends off. Along with other Pykett old boys and our VIPs, he marched into the hall followed by our proud graduates with parents looking on from behind. Dressed dapperly, they rose to the stage to receive their certificates with chests held high. Our own students, Tung Ze Rui & Wong Chin Shuen, managed to get top in the world for law and physics, respectively. We shall not forget everyone’s contributions to Pykett; the culture they helped to build in this new campus as the pioneers shall hold for years to come. Congratulations to the A- Levels and AUSMAT classes of 2024! The SRC, Maths Club and some diploma students also opened a couple of booths selling flowers, chocolate and drinks. The newly formed Pykett Alumni Association was also present and new members got a customised cup as a souvenir; Alumnus if you are reading this, join now! Lee Fung Qi (DCS2208)

4 Graduation Day Even after the ceremony ended, many graduates stuck around to capture their last moments here in MCKL. Tears of joy moistened many eyes as they said their goodbyes, both to friends and lecturers. The SRC wishes our graduates all the success that they seek. Come back to visit us!

9 CF Camp: Renewal In celebration of Christmas, the Christian Fellowship of both the Pykett and KL campus came together to organize a camp that left a memorable experience for all involved. On the dawn of the 27th of December , students from both campuses headed out to their accommodation in the beautiful El Sanctuary, Malacca. Throughout the 4 days the camp was held, the students had the chance to take part in talks by Pastor Samuel and Pastor Miranda and various workshops to take a deeper look into Christianity. Besides the talks and workshops, there was also an “Angel and Mortal” event where everyone had to take care of their designated ‘mortal’. The identities of everyone’s own angel were only revealed at the campfire at the end of the camp. With such fun and insightful events, there was no doubt that every participant returned from the event with a deeper and renewed understanding of Christianity. Ethan Yeow JunQi (CALS2401) SRC Team Building: Langkawi Trip The SRC team building trip to Langkawi provided an unforgettable experience for members of batches 2 & 3. Set against the stunning backdrop of Langkawi's natural beauty, we engaged in a series of interactive and collaborative activities designed to foster trust, communication, and unity within our group. The trip not only strengthened team bonds but also created meaningful connections as we shared laughter and celebrated moments of triumph together. We eagerly anticipate our next team building adventure and look forward to witnessing the continued growth and cohesion of the SRC family. Chuah Jia Wei (DCS2308)

On the 14th of October 2023, the SRC organized a team-building day activity for the new SRC interns to enhance team cohesion, improve communication, and foster collaboration. The day started with ice-breaking sessions among the interns, encouraging them to share interesting facts about themselves. This helped break the initial barrier and set a friendly tone for the day. After that, the SRC constitution briefing was conducted to provide understanding of the constitution among the new interns, highlighting the rights and responsibilities of each department. The interns were also given a chance to write down their desired position, setting targets for self-improvement. After a short break from the briefing, the SRC interns readied themselves and were pumped up for the team building games designed by their fellow SRC seniors. Several team-building games were conducted, including human knot, trust falls and other exciting activities. From these games, the new interns learnt to work together and rely on each other to accomplish extreme tasks. After some exciting and challenging games, the SRC members and interns gathered around for a de-stressing session. During the session, all SRC members learnt to manage stress management strategies, including time management, prioritization techniques, and setting healthy boundaries. All of them also relieved their stress through the balloon popping method. Finally, all SRC members gathered around the canteen for a cooking session with the fellow SRC advisors. Each of them was divided into several groups and actively participated in cooking dishes themselves. While cooking, laughter and chuckling filled the air. The SRC team building day event ended by cleaning up the surroundings. 10 SRC Team Building : Training Day Denver Foo Jia Wei (AUSM2308)

11 Orientation Day: A New Journey Begins At last, a new semester began. With that, students of 2401 all gathered at MCKL to attend their college orientation. The day started early with students registering and taking a seat among their new course mates. Not long after, the activity hall was filled with fresh faces and the event began. Students listened attentively to the speakers briefing them, while they were very interactive as well which made the whole event exciting. After lunch, students took part in ice-breaking activities where they had the opportunity to warm up to and get to know each other. At 5pm, the orientation day ended, leaving the students bright-eyed and enthusiastic to embark on their new journey in college. Ameline Loo Chien Ling (CALS2401) The collaborative event between the MCKL Sports Club and Alumni Association was a thrilling showcase of teamwork, friendship, and community building. From intense matches of captain ball, basketball, and volleyball to heartwarming moments of support, the campus buzzed with excitement. The event aimed to promote physical activity and healthy competition among students while fostering connections between current students and alumni. Despite a minor setback with a player's injury, swift action ensured the event continued smoothly, demonstrating the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. As the sun set, souvenirs were distributed, and group photos captured the day's unforgettable moments, celebrating the achievements and contributions of the MCKL community. It was not only a testament to the unity and spirit of the MCKL community but also an opportunity for skill development, and personal growth. Sports Competition with Alumni: Sim Yu En (CALS2307)

12 CF Welcoming Party: Teoh Kai Qian (DECE2401) What is CF? CF, also known as Christian Fellowship, is an group of believers united with Jesus. The CF believes that accountability is about helping or supporting others to grow. They emphasize forgiveness and kindness rather than judgment or harsh words when correcting each other and strive to improve. While it may involve the community, CF goes beyond mere community involvement. On January 26, 2024, our MCKL CF organized a welcome party for our 2401 batch and existing cohort friends. This event celebrated and welcomed the 2401 batch. During the event, they provided food, drink, and a simple mini game. For the food and drink, they provided pizza and soda drinks. Besides, they created a few interesting minigames. One of the activities that I remember was related to understanding each other, because this activity was about giving you a piece of paper with a name, trying to find the person, asking three facts from the person, and trying to remember them. I think this event is great because it was a chance for our new batch to make new friends. Following the initial activities, a teamwork activity was conducted. During this event, the emcee separated us into two teams, and then the emcee provided us with a topic. What we needed to do was guess how many answers related to the topic that the emcee provided that the team could give. During this event, I believe the core of the activity was in understanding each person's knowledge or life experiences and building trusting relationships with teammates, relying on them to achieve the set goals. This event was enjoyable because it offered the opportunity to understand others, make friends, and learn from them.

13 Spirit Week: Buzzing with Excitement Chloe Tan Yan Minn (CALS2307) The campus was transformed into a vibrant hub of excitement as Spirit Week kicked off throughout the fourth week of January with a flurry of themed dress-up days. Monday: Dress up like a teacher/student The week started with an academic theme as students embraced their inner scholars. Classrooms transformed into scenes reminiscent of high school dramas. From dressing up as your favourite teacher to donning your old high school uniform, it surely brought us all together! Tuesday: Pyjamas Day + Pyjama Party ft. The Explorers Collaborating with The Explorers, Spirit Week took a cozy turn with a pyjama party that set the campus abuzz. From fluffy stuffed toys to silky pjs, students lounged in style, bringing a whole new meaning to 'comfort is key'. The partnership with The Explorers added an exhilarating twist, turning the day into a memorable exploration of comfort and fun games. Wednesday: On Wednesdays We Wear Pink! Mean Girls references were aplenty as Wednesday rolled around, bringing a splash of pink to the campus landscape. The campus bloomed with shades of pink, creating a visual spectacle that would make even Regina George proud. There was also a photobooth for students to pose and take stunning photos. Friday: Jersey Day Wrapping up the week on a high note, Friday saw the campus erupt in a sea of team colours and jerseys. Many wore jerseys representing their favourite sports team. From basketball to football, the spirit of competition was palpable, transcending the boundaries of the playing field. As the curtains closed on another successful Spirit Week, the campus buzzed with memories of laughter.

14 Sports Mania: United We Stand Sim Yu En (CALS2307) On the 2nd of February 2024, Pykett students embarked on a memorable weekend stay in KL. Filled with camaraderie and competitive spirit, students arrived just in time for dinner. They were greeted by KL campus facilitators who led them to dinner before kicking off the night with engaging icebreaker activities. The following morning commenced with breakfast as students filled up their tummies for a day filled with competitions. The opening ceremony, kicked off by Dr. Chua, Principal of MCKL KL Campus, ignited the spirit of competition as the torch was lit. The day unfolded with intense matches in football, and tug of war. After lunch, students were wowed by a mesmerizing cheerleading performance by students from KL Campus. The competitions continued with chess, captain ball, and frisbee. Unlike last year, students from both campuses had the chance to compete with lecturers! Who would have expected a Mathematics Lecturer to be such a good captain ball player? The excitement peaked with basketball and volleyball matches, where the bleachers were filled with students from both campuses spectating and cheering for their teams. As midnight approached, students relished a late-night Mamak feast, then returned to their hotel to recharge for an exciting KL tour the next day. The next day, Pykett students explored KL alongside their new KL friends, fostering bonds beyond the sports arena. During the closing ceremony, the winner for this year’s Sportsmania was announced to be KL Campus. As everyone took a group photo, exchanged contacts, and said their last goodbyes, Pykett students boarded the bus back to Penang. To sum it up, it was a successful sports event hosted by the KL campus in coordination with Sports Club students from Pykett Campus, promoting sportsmanship and friendly encounters.

15 TEDx Campus Resilience: Chew Jay Yang (DDM 2308) Open Mic: Spotlight MomentsTEDx Campus Resilience event, hosted by the Debate Club, was a dynamic forum aimed at equipping college students with essential skills and attitudes for navigating academic challenges. Guest speakers, Mr. Elgin Loh Yi Xian and Ms. Catherine Mei Yan Bakewell, engaged participants in insightful discussions, covering topics from time management to mental health. The evening fostered camaraderie through ice-breaking games and meaningful dialogue, leaving attendees empowered with newfound insights and strengthened resolve for the journey ahead. Inspired by an event from Greenwich Village of New York City, Open Mic, was being brought to the college by the Performing Arts Club and Debate Club during the beginning of the year. The idea of the event was to celebrate diversity, foster creativity, and create opportunities for individuals to share their voices and stories with the world. During the event, several students showcased their musical talents in front of an audience. Overall, the event was a success as students enjoyed the session and had the opportunity to perform with their friends. Ethan Hng Howe Yin (CALS2307)

16 Fermat Competition: Ready, set, math! Lau Jia Le (CALS2307) On the 24th of February 2024, math enthusiasts from different schools gathered at MCKL Pykett campus. The Fermat Competition kicked off with a welcoming speech by Dr Vivien and Dr Lim. Students worked on several math problems during the preparatory workshop led by our MCKL lecturers to prepare them for the upcoming mock test. Students showcased their problem-solving skills and mathematical creativity as they tackled a series of challenging problems during the Mock Test that started at 11am sharp. It was a tough onehour exam, but students were rewarded with a delicious meal after the test. And then, the moment of truth arrived. With bated breath and anticipation, the winners of the Mock Test Fermat Competition were unveiled. The top winner, Team Logic Lord from SMJK Chung Ling, walked away with a cash prize of RM300. Other teams that participated included CHCHS 2 from SMJK Chung Hwa Confucian, GG Bond from Jit Sin Independent High School and The Scholars’ Gang from MCKL Pykett. However, the journey was far from over as the eligible top 50 participants progressed to take on the actual competition that took place on the 29th of February 2024.

Tan Yao Bang Vice President A word from SRC - Not a goodbye but a see you later - Chloe Tan Yan Minn President What a great time we had. The memories we made, the friends we’ve met along the way. It's been a wild ride organizing events like Dragon Long Dong Qiang, Spirit Week, and Color Blast Dash! Hope everyone had fun Thank you to everyone in SRC for making our journey together so memorable…this is OUR legacy. Best of luck to the next batch - May your term be as exciting as ours! SRC Batch 3 President signing out To be completely honest, when I first heard about the opportunity to join the SRC, I was hesitant. I had my sights set on completing my diploma and moving on without any extra commitments. Little did I know, saying yes to this experience would completely transform my college journey. Yes, it was hectic. There were moments when I questioned my decision, wondering if I had bitten off more than I could chew. But amidst the chaos, I found joy. I discovered a passion for leadership that I never knew existed within me. And those tough times? They didn't break me; they made me stronger. Joining the SRC was like stepping into a whole new world, one filled with challenges, laughter, and countless lessons. I quickly realized that I still had so much to learn about leadership. With each challenge conquered and every success celebrated, I found myself growing in ways I never imagined. And for that, I am endlessly grateful. SRC wasn't just a council to me; it was a family. Together, we navigated through highs and lows, supporting each other every step of the way. My college life became infinitely more colorful, more vibrant, thanks to the bonds I formed and the experiences we shared. As I reflect on my journey through college so far, I know that my time with the SRC will forever be etched into my memory. It's become a core part of who I am, shaping not only my college experience but also my perspective on life. So here's to the SRC - to the NEVER-END meetings, the brainstorming sessions, the dinner indecision, and the friendships forged along the way. Thank you for everything. You'll always hold a special place in my heart. 17

Denver Foo Jia Wei Director of Human Resources Ivan Lee Fung Qi Returning Officer My train has finally reached its final stop and it's time to step off. SRC has been an amazing journey, an impact on me and I on it. The opportunity to get to know almost everyone and be involved in almost everything has been a great gift. I pray that the council will live on and continue to shape people for the better, preparing and changing lives and keep Pykett special. Vox Populi! As my time in the student council draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we've shared. It has been a privilege and an honor to serve alongside each and every batch, working tirelessly to make our school community a better place. From the early brainstorming sessions to the late-night meetings, from the highs of successful events to the challenges we faced headon, every moment has contributed to our growth, both individually and as a team. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this incredible journey. Though my time in the student council may be ending, the friendships, experiences, and memories we've shared will forever hold a special place in my heart. ALL DA BEST FUTURE TERM Nayden Chew Qi Hang Returning officer To be honest, I'm still not convinced that my term as SRC member was done. Like done done. Time sure flies man. As a mainland guy, yeah i do miss a lot of fun hanging out with my fellow friends, but i really enjoy the moments when i'm with them. I'm very thankful for all of you that cooperate and help me during our time working together wohoo. Before ending my "essay", i hope our "new generations" can keep this friendly and helpful environment among our SRC community. Well yeah, dont forget to stay awake, stay happy, dont be lazy, ciao.... I am very glad and want to thank all the teacher advisors for giving me the opportunity to be part of the SRC. I also am thankful and enjoyed working with these bunch of people. It really gives me quite a fruitful of experiences, and an opportunity to learn more about myself. To the future batch of SRC, as you face many challenges in the future ahead, just remember to not give up. Everything is a process so enjoy it, and good luck!!! Ethan H’ng Howe Yin Secretary 18

As we bid farewell to our roles in the SRC, we take pride in knowing our collective efforts have significantly enhanced the student experience at MCKL Pykett. Together, we tackled challenges, championed student voices, and implemented meaningful changes. Each of us has developed and gained a deeper understanding of leadership and the power of collaboration. As this chapter closes, we look forward to the new paths we will carve, carrying forward the spirit and lessons from our time here. To my fellow council members and all the students of MCKL Pykett, thank you for an unforgettable journey. Chew Jay Yang Co-Director of Club & Societies It has been an absolute pleasure working with my friends and creating memories during my time in the SRC. From Lunar Odyssey to Deepavali Dazzle to the Colour Blast Dash, I gained a lot of experiences along the way! I got the chance to interact with many people from different cohorts and had a ton of fun (and stress). Overall, SRC is a 10 out of 10 soo to our future batches, don't hesitate and JOIN SRC!! Lau Jia Le Director of Club & Societies Unexpectedly, my term flew by in a whirlwind of meetings, events, and numerous tasks and challenges. Despite the stress, I've gained valuable experiences and cherished memories. Surviving through my term was both enjoyable and exhausting. I've had the pleasure of meeting some incredible people, and I'm grateful for that. The SRC has become like a family to me. Wishing everyone the best, and let's continue creating more unforgettable memories together. 다시 만날 때까지 건강세요! Chuah Jia Wei PR & Events Director It’s bitter sweet to say goodbye to my term. Hardship as a team has gone through but we persevered. From budgeting our way to buy stuff so that we don’t exceed the budget and staying till late at campus to make decorations for an event. Those days not only was filled with sweat but laughter. Not gonna lie, it was overwhelming at first but slowly it become something to bond over with. When Post mortem rolls around, we get to understand what we could have done better but still share the joy of the event itself. One takeaway would be prep yourself with I CAN DO IT mindset and never the WHAT IF’s no one is going to judge you for your decisions. So just make the best out of it.Here’s to more dinners or late night suppers. We need another option than PELITA please! Kelly Phor Ker li PR & Events Co-Director 19

I love you. There I’ve said it. Now, tell me. Do you feel the same at all? Maybe I’m not your type. Or maybe you just want a friendship from me. Or maybe your heart has been broken too many times, That you don’t trust giving it to another. I understand, I truly do. But what if I’m the person that puts you back together? To mend you whole. Would you then, rethink your decision? Creative Corner W h a t t h e P y k e t t - k i a C r e a t e d But now that I’ve said it, Can we ever go back to how it was? To how I could lay in your arms, Breathing your scent in. Feeling your skin. Melting at your touch. Just sitting in silence, alone. Creative Corner W h a t t h e P y k e t t - k i a C r e a t e d For the days when everything seems overwhelming and never ending. Thud… thud… thud… Can you feel it? Can you feel the pulse? Put your fingers to the wrist. It’s here. A faint but steady rhythm. Thud… thud… thud… “We’re here,” they whisper, their voices barely audible. The pulse beats on. It’s a soft sound but it’s persistent. It’s here. Thud… thud… thud… “We are beating but we are bruised, we’ve taken a beating. Every day, another burden, every morning, another thought of how-muchmore-do-i-have-to-do.” Thud… thud… thud… thud… But then, the pulse quickens - a renewed conviction surges through “We were made to beat — to move with vibrations that spill over into life. We are here to find things that are calling our name, to move with boldness towards that which beckons, to come alive to what He has given, to proclaim with unwavering certainty that we are—” Thud… A pause— a momentary hitch—a breath. Thud… It’s still here. Thud… The pulse slows, as if catching its breath. Can you hear it? It’s here. Thud... It’s just a little worn out. This small pulse has been powering a whirlwind. Again and again, propelled forward by its purpose but deprived of the space to relish the process. Thud… How much longer will it beat? Surely its limits have been surpassed? Day after day channelling energy far beyond its reach? Thud… But listen closely. Look deeper. Move a little closer. It’s still here. “We’re still here.” “We are still here!” Thud… thud… thud… The sheer volume of the voice reverberates—the pulse draws its strength from a realization. “It’s here” takes on a new meaning. We are the pulse of this place; the driving life force that spurs creativity and kindness and excellence and joy. We are here. And that’s enough. Keep beating, dear pulse. You may be worn out and weary. Fighting through endless cycles of work and worry. But take heart. We are here together; we beat together. None can lie by the wayside while another still stands. We lift each other up. We are the heartbeat of this place. We are here.
