The Advantages of Social Media

Social media is a two-edge sword which in the other words means that there are advantages and

disadvantages with the use of social media. It basically comes down to the user as the choice of doing

good or otherwise is literally at their fingertips. One thing is for sure, social media is here to stay and
is gaining popularity by the minute especially among youths. The rise in its popularity may be narrow

down to the fact that social media is overall greatly beneficial to its users.

One clear advantage of using social media is that social media strengthens friendships. This is

because friends and friendships are central to youths. So, keeping in touch with friends or simply

being in the know of their friends’ whereabouts by keeping track of their status and timelines are

made easier with the use of social media. Notices of engagements, photos of weddings and

announcements of births and even the passing of someone could be made on close and your loved

ones closer.

There is a kind of freedom that is brought with saying and voicing out thoughts on social media
as people could easily hide behind fake accounts and such. It is important to keep in mind that no

matter whether our identity is known, or it is shrouded by and assumed name and identity the words

that we say can still easily hurt and damage someone.

Recycling at Home

Recycling is no longer a suggestion that we should consider adopting into our lives, as

it has now become a necessity. The current situation is our landfills are getting filled up by our

refuse too quickly and the plastic we use are ending up more and more in our oceans harming

our turtles and killing our aquatic wildlife. We all need to take recycling seriously and where

better to start this than at home.

Firstly, to make recycling a success at home, it should involve not just the parents but

the entire household. Young children should be taught and exposed to the habit of recycling

waste early on in their lives and to recycle religiously the best we can. Next is to ensure that

everyone understands the reasons we should be taking recycling seriously and what impact our

recycling habit will have in the long run. Only when everyone understands this will we continue

to practise recycling even outside our homes as well.

Another step that should be taken is to make recycling easy at home. This could easily

be achieved by setting up a few recycling bins and perhaps labelling the bins clearly so that all

recyclable material would be placed in the rightful places and not be jumbled up with other

materials. All these steps mentioned could ensure that our recycling effort at home will be a

definite success.
