onward.

This event marked
the beginning of
new era in A2
District under the
leadership of Leo
Vihan Manage. And
also, event was a
great platform to
identify the new
blood in the district

upcoming 2022/23

Flicker

12 years a Slave is a
biographical drama film
based on a true story which
started screening in 2013.
Film is directed by Steve
Mcqueen and screenplay by
John Ridley. Film reflects a
true story based on the book
of Twelve years a Slave by
Solomon Northup in 1853.

Plot of the film revolves around a slave named Solomon Northup
who was put into work on a plantation for 12 years before the
release from slavery. Main character is performed by Chiwetel
Ejiofor while support played by famous actors including Benedict
Cumberbatch, Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Sarah Paulson.

Earning of the film has exceeded $187 million by screening in USA,
UK, and Canada and awarded with multiple awards including 3
Oscar awards for best picture, best adapted screenplay and the
best supporting actress which shows the recognition received for
the film.

COMMERCIALIZATION OF SPACE TOURISM

SPACE TOURISM IS AN UPCOMING WORLD TREND WHICH WAS INITIATED AS
A RESULT OF THE DREAMS OF MANY PEOPLE WHO IMAGINED TRAVELING
BEYOND THE LIMITS. SPACE TOURISM IS AN EXTENSION OF THE AVIATION
INDUSTRY AND HAS BECOME A COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY. THERE ARE
SEVERAL TYPES OF SPACE TOURISM OPTIONS INCLUDING HIGH ALTITUDE
JET FLIGHTS, SHORT DURATION SUBORBITAL FLIGHTS, AND LONGER
DURATION ORBITAL TRIPS TO SPACE..

DENIS TITO CAN BE NAMED AS THE FIRST EVER SPACE TOURIST AS HE
SPENT 8 DAYS ONBOARD IN THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION.
AFTERWARDS SEVERAL CITIZENS FOLLOWED HIM AND BECAME SPACE
TOURISTS AS WELL. INTEREST FOR THE SPACE TOURISM AMONG THE
PEOPLE WAS INCREASED WITH THE ENTRANCE OF SPACE TOURISM
COMPANIES. VIRGIN GALACTIC, BLUE ORIGIN, SPACEX, BOEING, AXIOM
SPACE, AND SPACE PERSPECTIVE ARE THE MAJOR COMPANIES THAT
ARRANGE SPACE FLIGHTS FOR TOURISTS.

SPACE TOURISM HAS SEVERAL DRAWBACKS AS TOURIST MIGHT
EXPERIENCE WEIGHTLESSNESS, SPACE SICKNESS AND THE EFFECT OF G-
FORCE. APART FROM THAT THIS IS ALSO A MUCH EXPENSIVE EXPERIENCE
AND REQUIRES HIGHER REGULATIONS.

Sports Corner

Commonwealth games is a multiple
sports events which is conducted every
4 years with the participation of
athletes from the commonwealth
countries.

The event was inspired by the Inter-Empire Championships
and initial edition was conducted in Canada in 1930. From
there on-wards the event has evolved tremendously up until
today. Also, the vent has now expanded to Commonwealth
Winter games, Commonwealth Paraplegic games and
Commonwealth Youth games.

19 cities covering 9 different countries has got the
opportunity to host this event throughout the years. Australia
has hosted 5 different commonwealth games
(1938,1962,1982,2006,2018) which is the most by a country in
the history of commonwealth games.

2022 commonwealth games was hosted in city of Birmingham
in England with the participation of 72 countries from 27th of
July to 7th of August. 280 medals will be distributed
throughout the 2 weeks’ time span.

Rattanapitiya as we are at the beginning

of a new leostic year. As the chief editor

of the newsletter my intention is to add a

value to my club while providing

knowledge to the readers of this

newsletter.

RIVISTA is a huge responsibility

and also a great opportunity to uplift my
