Education Selection Criteria
Public Sector Primary Positions
SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of initiatives in student learning including
the Standards, the Principles of Learning and Teaching P-12 and
Assessment and Reporting Advice and the ability to design curriculum
programs consistent with their intent.
SC2 Demonstrate an understanding of how students learn and effective
classroom teaching strategies and the capacity to work with colleagues to
continually improve teaching and learning.
SC3 Capacity to monitor and assess student learning data and to use this
data to inform teaching for improved student learning.
Education Selection Criteria
SC4 Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and
high level interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive
relationships with students, parents and other staff.
SC5 Demonstrated commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a
broad range of school activities and a capacity to reflect on, evaluate and
improve professional knowledge and practice.

• Read and understand the criteria
• Consider a range of recent experiences that have
developed competence related to the criteria –
sketch out examples form your work, placements and
other experiences
• Write down achievements, learning & insight,
anecdotes, evidence, stories relevant to each criteria

Reflect on the Standards in relation to your own observations and teaching experience
Think about initiatives in student learning, and how you:
• promote learning excellence
• cater to individual student learning needs
• apply effective teaching strategies
• design curriculum programs/lessons/units
• use the reporting format to assess learning
• ensure the learning environment is supportive, engaging and productive
Demonstrate how you conduct/implement these initiatives with examples
Can tackle response as three distinct questions and set out in three sections

SC2 Demonstrate an understanding of how students learn and effective
classroom teaching strategies and the capacity to work with colleagues to
continually improve teaching and learning.
• Knowing students (demographic, strengths, needs, etc)
• Use of tools and resources; and learning & teaching examples
• Collaboration activities, teamwork, senior staff / mentors
• Own self-directed learning, self reflection; demonstration of senior level advice

SC3 Capacity to monitor and assess student learning data and to use this data to inform
teaching for improved student learning.
Examples of assessment and reporting strategies:
• diagnostic, formative, summative assessments
• self-assessment / peer-assessment tools
SC4 Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level
interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with students,
parents and other staff.
• Provide examples from classroom experience
• Draw more holistically – extra-curricular, volunteering, travel, technology, etc
• Can commence with contextual statement; and split into three paragraphs by stakeholder
Responding to Selection Criteria
SC5 Demonstrated commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of school
activities and a capacity to reflect on, evaluate and improve professional knowledge and
practice.
Provide examples of multiple and diverse activities – and name them!
• eg./ professional development learning, self-directed – conferences, seminars, etc
